I'm having severe stability issues on Xbox. I hadn't played in a while, but every time I boot it up now I'm getting long load times and the console completely freezing up when I'm wandering the roads.

It's two years too late, but there FINALLY is a mod out there that somewhat allows dual-wielders and sword+magic users to not have to constantly go to the favorites menu to equip the weapons/spells the want.

Awesome mod, not nearly enough downloads and favorites

I'm throwing this out there because part of the reason i went away from Skyrim for a few months was that I hated having to always go to the favorites menu to equip the proper spells/weapons.  No longer. Hit a key and *BAM*, your done.

FINALLY is right. As an avid dual wielder...well...it's about time. Thanks. I'm downloading this as soon as I finish my New Vegas downloads.

Just completed another Desdenova episode and it worked like a charm.  Spells, staves, weapons in right or left hand, it's all good.  Plus there are 24 perumtations.  The only thing to be aware of is that the original Bethesda game can't tell the difference between "glass sword" and "glass sword of fire".  So have "glass sword" and "ebony sword of fire"

Ugh, that's no fun.

Do you have a large number of save files? I was experiencing that same thing a while back, so I cleaned house, and moved some of my saves up to the cloud. It seemed to fix the issue. If it's not that, I have no idea.

I reduced mine to about 20, and have added many since, and it seems to be ok for now.

I do actually, I don't think I've ever deleted any saves. I'll give that a try. The weird thing is it only happens in Skyrim itself, it never happens when I'm off in Morrowind. I thought it might have been the latest update or something.

Speaking of cool looking cats, does anyone know the face code for Garfield the cat?
That was literally my number one reason for playing as a Khajiit.

Thanks to Happy Daiz's advice my Skyrim now works again. There was much skulking and much rejoicing.

How do you typically deal with Jaree-Ra's "Light's Out" quest?

I've done it, and there's good and bad ramifications story-wise, since innocent people die, but you seem to permanently eliminate a threat that was constantly endangering people around Solitude (as Jala notes when she says it's safer with the BlackBlood Marauders gone). I'm planning on it with my Telvanni. His resurrected corpse is useful for strengthening the Ebony Blade to it's full potential if you're not interested in empowering the blade by killing people you'd rather keep alive.

I ended up killing the Marauders by 'accident'. A crossbow upgrade plan spawned there. The captain gave me a pretty hard time. By the time we were done, Serana had almost brought back to life every one of the of the marauders and he cut through them all. The cavern they were in gave me a mini freakout moment too when Serana ended up stuck and wouldn't leave the place. I didn't realise that it was a well known bug that led to followers being trapped in the place. Luckily fast travelling a few times ended up warping her out of there.

Yeah, that's how the quest plays out.  Did your Telvanni accept that quest with the specific intention of wiping out his Mauraders or was that just the consequence of being betrayed?

The following is going to be a whole lotta TL;DR so apologies but I don't really have a diary so... :P
My main point is that I wish we could play as multiple characters within the same world, barring a few logistic issues.

Currently doing the Civil War quesline with my Redguard and I honestly feel like I'm done with his story. He's done quite a bit and travelled around Skyrim. Has become a Thane in almost all Holds (except for Riften and Markarth) and helped many with their problems. Closest thing to home was considered Falkreath and I spent quite a bit of time there at the start of my character's tale, became a Thane and all. Moved northwards from there, stayed a bit in Morthal and helped them with their vampire problem (also became a Thane) before travelling further to Solitude. While my character had an aversion for Solitude initially, it became like a second home and he grew to like the place and its citizens. Even became close to Elisif and her court and met an old 'friend' in Sheo.

I had satisfied almost the requirements of becoming a Thane bar buying the house and helping Elisif with Torygg's horn so I travelled around to amass more wealth and see more of the world. First I went east to Dawnstar, helped them with their nightmare issues and picked up a few miscellaneous quests before travelling south to finish some of those quests and explore some more. Whiterun was my next major destination and I finished a few quests there (Blessings of Nature + a few fetch quests) before joining the Companions. The Blessings of Nature quest lead to me exploring the area of the map to the east and wasn't too far away from Windhelm but it was too far north for me at the time. The quest also lead me to finding Talos' shrine so I could finally offload Torygg's horn.

Stuck with The Companions until I was given the 'choice' of becoming a werewolf. Then I was all like, "**** y'all" and decided to go back to Solitude. Gave Elisif the horn, leveled up after being at Level 1 for far too long and the second Potema quest. Completed that, came back and bought the Manor, offloaded a lot of loot, became Thane and was  all ready to just chill in the city for the bit. You know, take on a trade. Maybe a bit of blacksmithing. That's when DG's lovely random vamp attacks decided to rear their head. Came out to find Taarie and the useless maid from the Blue Palace dead alongside a Solitude guard and a few vampires with three psychotic children playing tag around their dead bodies. That really messed with the pace of my playthrough and I don't feel it has been the same since. I'll note that Rayya was my constant companion throughout all these experiences. At least after I did the required Falkreath quests.

Rushed to complete DG and ened up enjoying it quite a bit. Especially the more unique members of the Dawnguard (Florentius, Gumar, Sorine and Isran). I just wish more was done with them and that the other members were fleshed out too. Serana was a nice surprise too although I'm still annoyed that a dialogue option that I chose soon after meeting her negatively affected me in being able to help cure her following the questline. I've roleplayed my DB as having a general dislike and distrust towards Daedra and their influences (vampires, werewolves, cheese) and as such was completely mistrustful of Serana. The quest where you had to take her to the Castle was odd in that I probably would not have done it if there was a choice. I knew there was no real danger but it seemed so dodgy from an rp perspective.

My character ended up warming up to her throughout the questline and gained a deeper understanding of vampires. To the point where he was willing to go through something that he would never have entertained before getting to know Serana. That was becoming a vampire in order to traverse the Soul Cairn. It seemed 'safer' than splitting his soul. Of course he sought a cure right after leaving the place. Travelling through the Soul Cairn and then later the Forgotten Vale were both draining. Partly because i kept getting lost, haha.

Following that, I ended up finishin a few assorted quests and decided to start building in Falkreath. I've done a few other things (Markath's main quest and few assorted quests) and started the Civil War (which forced me to finally do the Dragon Rising quest) in favour of the Stormcloaks due to my Redguard's complete distaste for the Thalmor (giving them a 'black eye' in the quest where you had to rescue a Greymane from their Fort was very satisfying) and have 'liberated' Whiterun and then Falkreath. Although liberating Falkreath felt a bit eh since I had to come to dislike Denegir during my time there and also got along well with Nenya.

It's just most things I've done since finishing DG feel a bit deflated. I wish we could play as a different character in the same world and let my Redguard bum around Lakeview with Rayya.

I skip it now. Or rather, I skip him, and accept other quests for the same location.

However, my fave way of dealing with him in past sessions was the time I used the console to make him non-essential, then used a Shout to send him flying from the top of the bridge above the East Empire Company. And had to do it twice since he can swim....

By the time my Telvanni put out the fire of the lighthouse, he already read Captain Hargar's journal, so he knew a betrayal was forthcoming from Jaree-Ra. His focus in Skyrim is establishing connections in the Holds and trying to assert his influence, and he was also trying to re-establish the influence of the Thieves Guild in Solitude - the marauders were basically a nuisance that needed to be dispatched. And narrative wise, Jaree-Ra thinking he's double-crossed my Telvanni, only to find Broken Oar Grotto full of corpses, was fitting.

It's amazing how I've seemlessly gone from beheading a cave load of vampires in order to aid Morthal, to wandering from town to town and shop to shop looking for goat horns to decorate my god damn basement. I was at it for a good 20 minutes before I stopped to ask myself "What am I at? There's a whole world of stuff that needs me sword rammed into it's face and I'm doing interior design."

Even walking weapons of mass destruction need a place to call home. You could also ask yourself why goat horns look nothing like goat horns...

Well, you could always stay in character and   hunt down all goats everywhere - with your sword -  and get goat horns that way.  It'll take you forever, as some goats don't drop horns, and some only drop  one.  But at least you're still fighting, instead of just shopping.

Good reading..
I have of course just started playing.I chose a redguard, although the youtube video I watched recommended orcs.Orcs are just too ugly to play imo.

I am at whiterun (?) and yes I am fighting the dragon...the electricity went out last night as I was playing so I didn't get to complete it.The faq I read says use a bow as his firebreath causes alot of damage and it does.I prefer Da's bow system/system of firing a bow but you can't have everything.

The zoom and time slows when zooming perks help make the archery gameplay better so its worth the time to level up, IMO. Slow motion finishers taking a baddie out with a single arrow from long distance never got old.

Stamina is to physical fighters what magicka is to mages.
Redguard has a special ability that allows them to regenerate stamina.

Sure you didn't pick the Orc, but the Redguard is no pushover.

If you're not going to cast spells, perhaps crafting and purchassing lots of healing potions.
At low levels, those pesky dragons are actually hard to kill.

So you're wondering what does stamina have to do with bows?
Well if you have the Eagle Eye and Steady Hand perks, you can zoom in and slow time whilst zooming in with your bow. This game mechanic exausts stamina.

If you were to run out of stamina, activate adrenaline rush.
Heck you could save up that ability for when your health is running low and you have little health. Adrenaline rush will get your stamina back allowing you to flee from battle.

If you are playing on higher difficulties and just lacking the skill required to defeat a foe, just flee and come back when you're ready. Adrenaline rush is that awesome panic button that makes fleeing easier.

____________________________________________________________________________

Archery Quick Tips:

Want some arrows?
Engage in the civil war quest. You get some easy arrows by looting the fallen archers.

Also get some firewood and craft some arrows.

Just don't spend a septim on arrows.
____________________________________________________________________________

Bound Bow

Better still, if it's available and you can afford it, purchasse a bound bow.
This deals lots of damage. Yes it is possible to get better bows, but this bow has some advantages.

A quality bow without the need of smithing and enchanting. (Though smithing and enchanting can eventually produce better weapons).

No arrows used up. Early game you might be short on arrows.
Once you've played for several arrows you'll have the problem of too many arrows. Till then you have a bow that won't expend a single arrow.

You're right, they don't look anything like goat horns... Skyrim's secret goat horn subplot is unfolding before us!!

I like how you think, but unfortunately I have an aversion to killing things that aren't attempting to kill me. Except Thalmor obviously, I have an aversion to not killing them. I'll stay in character and put it down to a midlife crisis.

Incidently my wild shopping spree was cut short, when after twice attempting to get from Riverwood to Riften I was hit with first the random vampire bug(despite not facing any dragons or draugr's) and then the game crashing completely.

For some reason I thought the vampire bug(where it will, out of the blue, tell you you've just fed and such) was related to enemies using shouts on your character, but it seemed to kick in when I was happily laughing at Serana's attempts to fight a bear. She used one of her vampiric powers I think and it seemed to feed me instead of her. It's been ages since I fought anything capable of shouts.

If you have some magic/fire resistance potions then it's a good time to put them to use.

You don't really have to use a bow on him if you're better with magic or close range weapons. Just wait for him to land and wade in there swinging like a maniac. Be careful, try and go in from the side when he is distracted with guards.
