Oops, wrong thread.
:innocent:
Almost have completed the Civil War questline in favour of the Stormcloaks, only have The Battle of Solitude left and it just cracked me up to see all the Jarls and their assorted companions confined to a single room below the Blue Palace. It seemed like a party!

That always made me sad. That whole civil war thing is an agonizing choice for me, but I usually go Stormcloak.

Well, just got done with the Civil War. My complaint about Dawnguard not being epic enough extends to this and to a greater extent. Ulfric's speech to about 10 stormcloaks after his success was very underwhelming. Not the speech itself but its audience. It would have been nice to have seen more named individuals participating too instead of generic galore.
I know there was originally a lot more the CW questline and it makes me sad. They really shot themselves in the foot with the 11.11.11 deadline. Something would have got cut inevitably due to the massive size of the game but they did themselves no favours and it shows by the sheer amount of cut content that was close to completion and the incredibly buggy state of the game upon release.

Other than a slight lag sometimes that's all I have seen.
My guess is there ALWAYS would have been content left out, they had made so much.
I don't know if another month or 2 of developement time would have made a big difference.

Agreed. It may have been cut due to the drag these larger battles have on the game already. The Whiterun siege still can lag on newer systems, esp if one uses AoE spells and effects.

Hate the concept.
Civil wars have become RPG cliché. The most overused plotline in modern RPG history. And this is despite the fact that no RPG has ever properly done a Civil War. No RPG *CAN*. Civil wars are best done in RTS games, where the player can control whole military regiments, capture territory, employ large-scale battle strategy, etc.
In Witcher 2, you had a civil war, but they relegated it to background story + a few cutscenes surrounding a protagonist who has no stake in the conflict anyway. Dragon Age 2, you had a civil war, but they restricted it to just the beginning of one. Skyrim has a civil war, but due to console limitations, story limitations, and a bunch of other limitations, you ended up getting nothing more than a few squirmishes, and then a bunch of storyline pieces in every city, requiring you to connect the dots in your head.
They can't do it. And so I'd rather they stop trying already and use a different trope - perhaps they can do what Obsidian likes to do: Faction warfare. Faction warfare can work great in an RPG because 1) they tend to be smaller; 2) there tends to be more than two sides; 3) they tie better into other plotlines/storylines, instead of just splitting a country in two and then playing the 'Us vs. Them' theme-card, which is unimaginative and...dull.

I do agree with you on the concept of Faction Warfare but the mere mention of Obsidian brings up their latest faction war.
Which isn't small in the least.
The Legion of Caesar vs the New California Republic introduced in Fallout New Vegas.
Excellent little war even if you aren't present for the majority of it besides the final push regardless of the faction you choose.
But that said again you need to factor in the limitations of consoles, pc and what have you and even with some of the best rendering rigs on the planet you cannot have streamless combat between dozens little lone hundreds of fully animated avatars doing through even semi complex actions required in gameplay to act out a battle, i understand this constrait and it will likely be overcome one day but it is an annoyance.
To be honest? It in my eye was done slightly better then the TES counterpart in this comparision the stormcloak vs legion conflict, mainly because regardless of PC interaction you will have these opponents meeting at prearranged destinations and throwing down, you will have centurion led patrols running into Ranger Positions along with completely random skirmishes when random spawns occur.
There really isn't a ryhme or reason to the conflict and i think that suits, Apart from overlapping military objects most of the conflict falls outside of the view of the Player and thus it doesn't involve them unless if they choose to involve themselves within it.

But better that it was there than not, it aids in roleplay, and FINALLY to have a chance to kick the imperials in the teeth after being forced to be an imperial lackey in Oblivion was fun.

I think they really could have done a little better with the CW quest design even without much added complexity. Just giving people different paths to resolve quests makes it feel unique even if it really isn't all that unique. FNV was much better at giving the illusion of choice as well as actual choices.

Victory to the Stormcloaks the true sons and daughters of Skyrim!
The Empire had its shot at the Elves and failed utterly, Its time for new players to assume the stage, namely a heavily militarized and independent skyrim aligned with High Rock and Hammerfell to give the Diminion and a sharp kick in the pants.

In any case, with the Civil War done, I feel like I can retire my DB. Time to go spend some time in Lakeview with Rayya.

Just started my second playthrough, Miraak be damned! Lirael, the female Bosmer! She looks exactly like the Dunmer from Daggerfall, lol. Went straight to Riften. It's time to experience the TG.

I know a lot of it was neutered due to console limitations (tech limitations in general) but I definitely feel like time was a factor too. There are various odds and ends that were so close to completion that were just scrapped.

I have to wonder what the Dragonborn would do, when all is said and done. Defeated the World-Eater, toppled the progenitor of the Volkihar Clan, overcome the First Dragonborn, and become so well known that your exploits are known even in the Soul Cairn.
In other news, my Telvanni discovered butterflies and a hovering bee in his greenhouse.

I just felt he had travelled enough and done enough in order to earn some rest.
I imagine they'll go with something vague in ESVI. Maybe he'll go to Akavir to find the Nerevarine? lol. I really don't know where they can go with him next. Maybe he oversees a battle between Mora and Akatosh for his soul?

For Warrior:
I'd pick Alistair because of his Templar abilities (very useful if you play an Altmer who is weak against magic) and sense of humor.
I'd also pick Fenris because of his attitude towards mages. I'm curious of what he'd make of mages in Tamriel.
For Rogue:
I'd pick Varric and Leliana because they're both smart, funny and interesting.
For Mage:
Morrigan is just an interesting character to have. She has a strange way of seeing the world. Also has shape shifting abilities.
Merril is fun to be around, as long as she isn't causing trouble.

None of the above. I'd rather go the other direction and play DAO with Serana.
This is just in theory, however. I'd really rather play Skyrim, tbh. Without anyone from a BW game.
