Noticed in the ps3 version you can't mine one vein of iron ore in the halted stream mining camp mine, I suspect because it's near the exit/pit with the stakes.
Like that camp a lot; nice location to assault and grab a good book.
It is no major thing, but you may wish to lightly note what bodies lie where in the game. That is, the ones already dead when you get there, as they will remain static. So if you get a quest requiring such a deceased person of interest, you are able have to remain in game rather than look for a walkthrough.

I play on PC but this might work on PS3 too; you can equip mining picks (yes up to two) as weapons and swing them as if attacking an ore vein. I've done this on numerous ore deposits that don't allow normal mining, for whatever reason. Also lets me mine deposits already being mined by NPCs.Angrywolves wrote...

So I was wondering. Are there any good films/shorts that make good use of the Skyrim engine to tell stories?
I'm not looking for any specific genre. I'm just looking for creativity and clever use of the resources at hand.
Here are some examples of the sort of thing I'm talking about.
Battle of The Samurai
Conspiracy
The Lost Story
The Great Battle of Dawnguard
Another Day In Skyrim

This up your alley?
Short episodes, but somewhat entertaining in a goofy way.

Yes.
I hear they're called "Machinimas".
Did you know there is a Lost Story series? I'm going to check that out too.
Thanks for the heads up.

The youtube videos and online articles on how to make money or boost certain things like smithing may be inaccurate for me and for other players who have more recent editions of the game due to patches or alterations done by Bethesda with later editions.
The iron dagger stuff is no longer is effective like it once was.
oh well.
I will have to try something else.<_<

I decided to fire up Skyrim again (PC version) after a long time of not playing it. The launcher works OK but when I hit play the Bethesda logo comes up then instead of the main menu I get white squares in place of the menu items.
So I uninstalled the game and did a fresh download and install without any mods. The same thing happens. On googling it there have been others with the issue with an indication that not checking all the BSA files might have been the problem. But I made sure they were all checked and I still get the issue.
Has anyone else here had this issue?

Not saying it'll work for you or that I even have your same issue, that's just my only experience with start up problems. I could load old saves and continue play, I just couldn't start a new game.

Perhaps this could help. Go to your Steam acct, and right click on your Skyrim game file. Go to Properties ->Local Files -> Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

If you're only interested in smithing for money making: then craft jewlery and add enchantments.
Also craft loads of potions so you can sell them.
Have stolen items but don't have the Fence perk in the speech tree?
Don't worry.
Join the thieves guild and sell those items there.
Also doing the radient quests at the thieves guild helps.
Don't do quests for people who are poor. This will only lead to you spending a lot of time to do a simple quest only to get paid peanuts in return. Unless of course you're just a nice guy who helps out those in need.
That's all there is to it.
It's an intense grind, but I guess even the mighty Dragonborn has to make a living.

But yeah, avoid grinding; no reason for it in a solo game, IMO.

If you have already cleared Halted Stream Mining Camp, you should have a spell book now on Transmuting Ore. Use this to speed up the process and increase the value of crafting enchanted jewelry.

A few perks in speech and relevant crafting skills, then just explore the world of Skyrim, do quests and have fun. When I went trophy hunting, the trophy that required me to have lots of gold took a long time to get. It was more of a relief when I received it than an actual achievement.
If you do want a money making build however, mix and match the various means of making money. So doing a bit of alchemy, enchanting, smithing and then exploring Dwemer ruins for scrap metal, or doing quests for Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood, or just do any quest you're given. All of these add flavor to the grind. However even if you do this, the game will be slowed down by the quest to make money.
Also one thing about merchants. Always have a follower on hand. There is a nice trick where you order them to pick up stuff. They will end up carrying more than their supposed weight capacity.

If you are trying for Stealth, you may find traveling in the countryside after dark will aid you in this ability.
