Ok now I've downloaded and installed all the Unofficial patches 5 in all. And when I re-start the game and its loading all the mods when it gets to one I get  a

"Failed to get details for "Dovahkin Hideout-Compact Edition"! Steam error 15"

Now I even got this error before I installed the patches Could it be that there is something wrong with the mod and that I should try deleting and re-installing it or what?

I assume that message is coming from the Skyrim launcher? If so, then yes, unsubscribe to that mod, delete its files and re-download, it probably didn't dl properly.

Ok I will try that there then and see what happens. Also after installing all of the patches it still didn't clear up  other problem for which I was having with the Blue Palace quest Cry Wolf or whatever it's called that leads up to the wolf queen quest. Should I just start a new game

It's probably best if you do, whenever you add mods mid game it can cause trouble. I don't know about unofficial patches, but there are mods that only work well if you start a new game. The unofficial patches are pretty big so they probably fit into that category.

Now you don't think I messed up the Blue palace quest by not making it there till level 36 or so do you?

No; actually gain an upgraded Vanilla reward if one waits until 40+ lvl.

Well then I guess I'll delete and re download the Dovahkin hideout and start a new game form the beginning. So close to officially having all the Daedra quest done. <LOL>

Not really, but sometimes I had a problem where Varnius Junius wasn't there or the scene just wouldn't trigger. Sometimes those bugs happened, best way to avoid them is to keep lots of saves.

Also if you're going to mod your game I'd suggest you take a look at Nexus, Steam Workshop is fine but the Nexus has a lot of stuff too, the only disadvantage is that it has a lot of crap no one wants to see.

Just punch one of them and pay the fine.  I normally punch Sybille Stentor.

LOL punch one and paying the fine sounds all well and good and believe me I thought about that there, but I don't think that would help me get the quest started.

I did see that there was lots of mods over on nexus a couple I might even try out. But your right there are lots that I wouldn't even waste my time with.

To aid searching, go to your Nexus Acct and set Block Content as you wish; also set preferences on actual Advanced Search results. This will remove a lot of undesirable material.

By using a program like the NMM, you are better able to safely install and uninstall mods to your game. This is the main reason I utilize the Nexus over Steam, though I still use a couple of unlisted mods from the latter.

What does Steam have that Nexus doesn't?

Automatic updates, but that's not anything I'd consider an advantage, at least not if you're knowledgeable in such things. Sure you don't have to re-download and look the page up, but then again you also don't get the choice to decide whether you want to update or not and it doesn't really say what exactly is new in the update.

I personally prefer to know what it is that I am putting in my game. I've only got like one Steam Workshop mod.

I use Exalted Magic: Indefinite Buffs (a mod that decreases the need to spam some spells like Cloaks and Alteration armor), and a mod that allows the Player to upgrade unique items. The latter may have like mods on the Nexus now, but this one has been stable for me, so have kept it.

Well now I'll have to admit that after going through the list of all my mods for which I'm subscribed to I found out why I was getting the Steam Error 15 message when it was loading mods, Seems that two of the mods had been taken down off steam and for some reason steam kept trying to install the information from them which was messing everything up. I unsubscribed to both of them and reloaded the game and it went through loaded all mods without any problems. I'm going to test it out and see if that cleared up the problem with the Blue Palace and if not I've got some other mods for which I want to get rid off that I don't use and I'll just start a new game.

Now if a modder were to remove a mod would NMM or Boss notice this and take the appropriate steps or not?

Its not the same, once you've got the mod in NMM, it stays there regardless of what the author did. The only way you'd have problems is if you wanted to download it again, in which case the mod wouldn't be there anymore. There's no automated process with the Nexus.

Also NMM isn't the only mod manager available, there's also Mod Organizer and Wrye Bash, which are far superior to NMM, which has been in Beta like forever. Although those other managers are a bit more complex and it takes a while to understand how it is that they work. So if you don't want the extra complication just go for NMM.

I fully understand and thanks for the information. Now I just went over to the Blue Palace and went in and I got the quest for The Man who cried wolf so it appears everything is once again working as it should. <G> Still going to go through and delete the mods for which I'm no longer interested in though.

I've read that NMM does not always uninstall things correctly, and that it's safer to install most mods manually, expecially if you want to change/delete things later. I only use NMM when it is really recommended by the mod author.

Gopher uses and recommends it, and it is quite simple for me to utilize. No major troubles here thus far.

Yeah sometimes, but deleting things manually is not quite as easy, especially for big files, you can miss a lot and your Skyrim directory can become quite the mess. This is one of the reasons why I use Mod Organizer, it allows you to mod your game without ever touching the Skyrim directory.

Actually the latest versions of NMM do update automatically. Maybe a response to Steam Workshop.

I use both NMM and Steam Workshop. I think both are pretty idiot-proof, but who knows. After a while, a modded game is going to start showing strain.

Confirmed; few problems thus far, and I am the idiot to prove it.....

Only real issue I have had is answering the updated mod questions 'Yes' or 'No' properly, as I have little knowledge of how these things work. But even then, if the mod fails to appear in the NMM lists, I simply DL again, and answer the other way.

The safest one to use is Mod Organiser. It doesn't touch the original Skyrim installation at all and it has mod profiling capability. Plus its fully integrated with the nexus website like NMM.

How? I haven't used it but, if you're refering to the thing that comes up and says updating mod info, then that only updates the readmes and the version info that Nexus has for specific mods on the website. Then again I haven't used it for a while, even then I think the people behind NMM weren't very keen on automatic updating of mods.

And it has plenty of nifty features. Such as conflict detection, a search system, locking your load order and  NMM mod importing, if you want to switch mod managers. Although I think its best to remake your mod list, I tried importing once, pretty sure I did it wrong but a lot of mods didn't make it through.

I'd like to give that a try.  Is this what you are referring to?
