^ I disagree re:vampires. There have been numerous times I fast traveled to Riften, heard a fight going on in the marketplace with vampires, and by the time I got there the local citizenry and guard have adequately dealt with the problem.

I don't know about that, I don't fast travel so those encounters don't happen as often. Whenever they appear in the Whiterun main entrance, they become a problem, especially if there's only like one guy in there. Plus they come out at night, no one is around at night in that part.

Exactly. Fast traveling, especially fast traveling directly to a city, seems to make vampire occurrences happen more frequently. I'd suggest hoofing it first and foremost, or fast traveling to a less-populated location nearby.

My first game night might happen tonight so will see about Vampires; might depend on the difficulty setting as to whether the townsfolk/guards can mount a suitable defense. I've seen the Vampires in Whiterun get wiped out pretty handily by the time I got there but I play on easy/casual.

Got started with the Companions again last night. Whenever I do these faction quests I find myself missing Oblivion's larger factions - a facility with its own quests in each town. At least I still have Oblivion installed so I can get that fix when I want it.

Some people have been complaining about the absence of hotkeying in Skyrim.
There is a hot key feature in Skyrim. It's just not explained.

This video explains a lesser known feature of the game, that enables you to quickly change your spells, consumables, weapons and gear without going into the main menu.
Really useful for all types of characters, especially mages.

Favorites.

Yep Skyrim has hotkeys and as I recall there's a menu (Controls) that lets you view/change them. I use Q to access favorites a lot, because my character swaps between bow, dagger and spells quite a bit depending on circumstances (she's a stealthy assassin/mage).

The mod; Better Shaped Weapons has a new Installer with the latest version. The new meshes are really quite pleasing, and work well with texture mods to help improve appearances; makes them seem deadlier and look less like paddles. While I seldom use Glass, Dwarven, or a few other types of blades, these thinner looks are highly addictive and recommended.

I use my hotkeys all the time! Can't play without them.

1. Healing
2. Spellbreaker (very useful against dragons and mages)
3. Dawnbreaker
4. Steel crossbow (with fire enhancement)
5. Torch

I prefer this to the extreme retextures.
It stays true to the developers vision whilst making the swords look more realistic.

That is a pretty versatile character you have there.:wizard:

You only have two hotkeys with L aand R on the dpad. Favorites is okay but its still just menu that you still have to scroll through unlike Oblivion that allowed for eight from the dpad which wouldn't stop down gameplay. One of the things that was a huge step backwards with Skyrim's UI, IMO.

Tsk, people complaining about death by dragons and vampires. I recently ran past one of the farms near Riften and heard a bear roar. I did not feel like killing it, so I just kept walking. Then I realized I was travelling the wrong way and turned around, again passing the farm. I heard the bear again, but this time also a NPC shout "somebody do something!". So I went to the Snowshod farm and saw that the bear was standing in the middle of a field of crops. It had killed two of the farmers (one added by Interesting NPCs) and the third was on his knees. I saved the third farmer, but still thought that was rather tragic. :(

I kept equipping the wrong item spell in Oblivion.
I would accidently select top right when I wanted to select top.
Or accidently select bottom when I wanted to select bottom left.
Maybe you don't have butter fingers like I do.:P

You are correct. Though.

I like favorites more because I have no limit on how many items/spells I can add.
As a mage that used a mixture of weapons, spells, shouts and powers, I found I would easily exceed 8.

The best hotkey systems are on the PC.
Loads of keys that can be used to represent different spells and items.

There is a great mod for this.

Darn bears! They used to scare me in Oblivion until I discovered the joys of bear rolling.

I see your point. I just preferred the quickness of the older way.

Here is a thought.

How about the power/ability/equipment wheel like what you see in games such as Assassin's Creed, or Dragon Age or Mass Effect?

That wheel without the pausing time.
Then you can hotkey your items, gear and abilities there.

I don't think that would work, the amound of stuff in those games compared to what there is in Skyrim is minimal. A magic heavy character would still have a wheel with a HUGE selection of items. No what they need is something else, something that accounts for a large amount of items and spells.

I would use hotkeys more, but the bDisableGearedUp=0 INI tweak (makes your favourited items visible on your character even when something else is equipped) causes some issues with it.

Price of looking cool, I guess.

It's not a good idea to shout the Necronomicon aloud, Snookie.

Yeah, I've been playing around with that mod for a bit. Works, but for some reason I seem to be dropping items even when I'm not switching to something else.

I also accidentally dropped my favourite sword down that trench in the Forgotten Vale and didn't have the heart to go find it when the ability couldn't. Was slightly miffed. :S

It happens.  Fast travel to Riften sometime and show up @ like midnight.  Everyone wonders from the market to go to the Bee and Barb or Helga's Bunkouse.  If any vampires are out they get slughtered.  Whiterun doesn;t have a hub like Riften, true, but I fail to see how this is a "problem."  Vampires are supposed to be nocturnal hunters and the justification for the Dawnguard existing is that they have become a "menace."

I replaced non-LARP weapons mod with this one over the weekend and am quite happy with it. Blade of Woe looks deadly (like a hand sickle) and I tested it on Jarl Balgruuf and Co. the other night. Image IPB

There is also a new aMidianBorn Blade of Woe texture mod, though I have not added it yet. FYI

Immersive Weapons, BSW and JaySUS Swords are pretty much my must have mods for weapons.

Semi automatic crossbows are cool too. :S

I don't see it as a problem as the whole bunch of whiners who complained about it. I agree that vampire attacks should be prevalent at night or whenever. The problem at least for me is that sometimes I can't get them killed fast enough. I'm not against vampire attacks, in fact if it was up to me more "things" would attack cities, towns and settlements. No matter how safe places are, I don't think they would go unnoticed by whatever is out there in Skyrim.

Had problems with it too, scripts weren't running once, so the unequip/equip hotkey wasn't working for me.
