Still doing the Dawnguard questline with my demonhuntress. Taking my time this time, and doing all the side quests for them. Also trying not to fast travel, although I do use carriages. Constantly having to go from Fort Dawnguard to some dungeon near Markarth or Solitude got old pretty quickly, although that is not the farthest they've sent me. My first dwarven schematics quest sent me to Solstheim, while I had never even been there before. So I took the boat, checked my map to see where I had to go, and to my relief saw the dwarven dungeon was not that far from the port. I explored the port city a bit and eventually stumbled into a building that turned out to be the tavern. As it was already dark, I decided to take a room and get some sleep. Of course I got abducted by Miraak and ended up working at one of his shrines on the other side of the island. Well, I assume my Dragonborn was supposed to work on the shrine, but she actually stared straight ahead at the stone in front of her, with her arms stretched out, a hammer in one hand.... It seems this character's file has become rather glitchy.
Fortunately the island was not as large as I'd feared, and it did not take that long to get back to the western side to get my crossbow schematics.

I also finally found the perfect armor for this character. When I started her I thought I would go for glass armor, but once I finally got it... meh. The Saskia armor looks way better on her than I would have expected. Only downside is that it's heavy armor, and I've been wearing light armor all this time (level 36 or something) and have taken perks in that tree as well. It also appears impossible to improve this armor set, because it doesn't appear at the workbench. Not that much of a problem though, since its rating is pretty high.

Also played my Nord for a while again. Downloaded the Ulfric follower mod and took him with me on my search for Esbern and later the Elderscroll. He is pretty badass. Only problem is that he likes to shout, and he often shouts while I am already about to kill the enemy. If a kill cam starts to play, that means he shouts me upside down during the kill cam, which the game realllllly hates. When my Nord gets up again, the screen does not revert back to the right view and I can no longer walk or look around right. tfc in the console does not fix it either, so I always have to reload when Ulfric does that. Pretty annoying.

I think I will kill Paarthurnax with her, to see what happens (she's not very nice :P).

Nice pics!  In my Let's Play, I've tried the whole no fast travel/only carriage rule but it is *really* hard to follow if you have Dawnguard (especially if you side with the Vampires as Desdenova did).  I think it's totally fair to assume that the mighty Volikihar would have a thrall attend boating duties and thus justify fast traveling to the Solitude docks and that once you recuit Sorine and Gundar for the Dawnguard, Isran got things up and running enough to have a stable/carriage that goes to Riften.

Oh, if your Nord is not nice, instead of killing Paarthunax, she should leave the Blades to rot in the middle of the Reach, surrounded by the forsworn.  Paarthunax, aside from being much cooler, actually provides the DB as a source of power whereas delphine just barks orders.

For me, it is more guilt by association, as his right hand man and his brother are hardly exemplary, as well as many other Stormcloaks. So Ulfric does nothing, which is not the answer I seek in any of my playthroughs.

Neither the imperials or the stormcloaks are right. Too much extremism from both sides. I just find the stormcloaks the lesser evil. My greastest grip with the empire is their unwillingness to accept they are no longer the same empire from 200 years ago. They are weak, deorganized and corrupt. They barelly can keep their own country on the straight and narrow and they think half of Tamirel still belongs to them? Hammerfell trusted the Imperials, and they only got stabbed in the back when they were given on a silver plate to the Thalmor. How long till the Imperials to the same to Skyrim if it's convenient to them? They need to get their bearings together and see that they no longer have nations serving them, but only potential allies against the fight against the high elves. They need to let it go of their elitism.

Don't know what he can do to be honest. Extremists are everywhere, he has a military to run, he can't just say that all Nords who do not like other races can go eff themselves. It's not possible and I'm sure that even as those Nords may be a minority, they're not facing just any enemy. The same can be said about Tullius, he's one of the few people in the Empire that isn't a scumbag but he does nothing to stop the scumbags in the Empire. Their positions may not be equal to be honest, but that still doesn't mean that he doesn't have any power. He's a general.

It is a simple statement, but leader's lead, and Ulfric could do this by example. Instead,he stays apathetic, allowing the problems to increase and ignorance to blossom; not realizing errors until after his death.

And while I am not fond of Tullius, there are several in his command worthy of respect. And while the younger Jarl of Falkreath could probably use a decent swift kick as a wake-up call, the majority of Imperial leaders seem somewhat better than their counterparts.

Not saying the Empire is the right call for everyone, but it is the one I always choose.

Rolff is not an associate of Ulfric.  Galmar hates the empire but what evidence in the game exists that he is a racist?

If he truly was he wouldn't accept the help from an non nord dragonborn. And he doesn't trust you even if you are an nord. When you join he tests you to see if you are dedicated to the cause, since as he states, the storcloaks don't pay or hire mercenaries, it's an cause for only those who believe on it.

Leaders can't do everything as well. I understand that maybe he could try to be a little different and guide people, but I think that those who are ignorant are that way because they choose to. The idiots in Windhelm are racists towards the Dunmer because they do not care for them. Take Brunwulf for example, he knows people down there and as such isn't a racist moron.

I think the reason that Ulfric is apathetic is to avoid causing trouble. If he starts doing things for the Dunmer or the Argonians, he's going to have those idiot Nords complaining about it and if he doesn't do anything he's going to have the others complaining as well. Who is it best to satisfy? The people who form your armies, or a bunch of Dunmer who practically want their own enclave without having to involve themselves in the affairs of the country they live in.

Maybe after the war things can be different but if you ask me, I see that choice as a complicated matter, I don't think Ulfric can afford to start having problems in his own city. You can't please everybody, and sadly what's important to Ulfric right now are the Nords and the war.

To be honest, I am uncertain if Galmar is racist; simply appears less than exemplary in dialogue and general behavior. And in most sessions, my DB is a Thane of Whiterun, and I do not particularly care for the tone and conversation heard by between Galmar and Ulfric, let alone elsewhere.

And Rolff is a citizen of Windhelm and allowed to continue his patrols of hatred; not exactly a terrific example of either leader.

And this is where we differ; for myself, this is not complicated at all. Apathy is as bad or worse than making a wrong decision, and I react to this.

If you think that way, then the Imperials are far worse, since they also show apathy when Thalmor agents go about Skyrim kidnapping, torturing and murdering people with impunity.

@Elhanan: I tried aMeridian's Blade of Woe retexture and it looks pretty good; be aware that it also modifies the weapon mesh so I didn't let No LARP overwrite it; it has a nice sharp edge anyway.

Working toward getting Serana, my favorite companion. Have her modded for stealth w/perks so she doesn't blow my cover, and have a Marryable Serana mod I wanted to put to the test.

Edit: also still running timescale of 3 with no noticeable issues. Textures are loading in, NPCs are moving properly during cutscenes and whatnot, quests updating properly, etc. Hope it stays that way. *crosses fingers*

Shh!  You'll cause the Empire's propagandists and apologists to work overtime if you contiue to point out inconvenient truths such as this.

Let's not forget the executions of unafilliated people as well. If that isn't "not caring" I don't know what is, they don't care who you are, they'll execute you just the same. Stealing horses and opening doors also warrant executions as well. At least Ulfric's "not caring" hasn't killed anyone yet, I'd say it has kept the peace in Windhelm, at least.

The Thalmor are not part of the Empire; are simply allied with them via the WGC truce. All of my DB's have battled against the Thalmor, but have also sided with the Empire against the Stormcloak radicals.

Thanks.:D Yes, I was seeing troll faces every time I checked my map for the next objective. The distance between Castle Volkihar and Fort Dawnguard could literally not be any larger. I caved and took a carriage from Solitude back to Riften after I had brought Serana home. I still need to try siding with the vampires. My werewolf Nord ain't losing Hircine's gift to become a whimpy bloodsucker, so I'll have to save it for one of my lower level characters. Maybe my Volkihar (from the build discussed a while back) will do. Her backstory is that she hates vampires for what they did to her and that she seeks vengeance, but I think I'll play her as disillusioned by the time she shows up at Isran's doorstep to help and he treats her with distrust and contempt (I believe he reacts pretty negatively to a vampire character? He insists on calling Serana "it"). All this time she has tried to help the people around her to make up for her "curse" and still she is treated as a monster.
Anyway, back to the topic of fast travelling: I will keep trying to avoid it, because I do notice I missed out on a lot of encounters with my previous character, who just hopped from one location on the map to the other. I have had multiple vampire attacks near Fort Dawnguard and the entrance of the cave you need to go through to get there. Makes the questline feel more serious and gives the impression that the enemy is actively trying to stop you.

But my Nord likes dead dragons. Can't trust those big guys that can breathe fire and ice.

I recently installed a werewolf mod. Tales of Moonlight I believe. It forces you to turn when the moon is full. I knew it would bite me in the behind at some point, but had not expected it to do so as soon as I loaded my save. Turned out it was a full moon that night in my game, and I was at the Thalmor party. I almost made it out of the basement in time. Almost. Freed the prisoner and all. Sadly all the Thalmor were already dead and the wood elf was the only victim. Sorry buddy, attacking the large, angry, black beast with the sharp teeth and claws is not a good idea.

There is a mod I've installed, Brehanin's Better Vampires, which allows you to advance as a vampire, greatly increasing your speed, jump height and other powers in human form as you feed on enemies, and then when you go into Vampire Lord form, the Royal Bloodlines mod adds new perks making it possible to fly. As a result, it becomes a lot more fun to fly around or run fast and leap tall objects.

AFAIK, the Empire was forced to sign the treaty some time in the past to end the War. As is pointed out in Skyrim, the Jarls were not asked for opinions.

As for Ulfric, I tend to agree with the opinion of Saerlund Law-Giver:

"Ulfric only cares about one thing... Ulfric. He's ordained himself the future High King of Skyrim and steps on anyone that gets in his way. He's begun a rebellion against those that wish to eradicate the worship of Talos and uses it as his rallying cry. His cause may be true, but the man is a lie... all he holds in his heart his lust for the throne."

Forced by who? I don't know if they could have gone on fighting the Thalmor or not but the Redguard ended up beating them. I personally think they signed it because they were cowards and I'm not so sure it was the Emperor as much as it was the elder council. Regardless of that, they should have fought, instead they sold out Hammerfell and allowed a foreign power to dictate how its citizens should live.

In turn for this "alliance" corruption is rampant amongst the Empire, as a result the Thalmor have bought out anyone of importance in the Empire. They can do as they please within the Empire, enforce their law on the Empire even when it is inconvenient against its own citizens.

I don't know about Ulfric to be honest, he may be just that or maybe not. When he joined the Imperial Legion to fight the Thalmor he sacrificed being a Greybeard and learing all about Dragon Speech, maybe he isn't as selfish as it is implied. I used to side with the Empire, not anymore, fighting for an entity that is so broken to its core is not something I can do. The only two individuals I respect within the Empire are Tullius and Rikke. Everyone else is a puppet, a paid off fool, or a scumbag. Regardless of what Ulfric is, it is better to kick out the Empire and the Thalmor. Maybe they should have consulted their people before signing that damn treaty. I'm sure everyone would have chosen to fight, except for Cyrodiil's scumbag politicians, at least Hammerfell did.

Not a lore-junkie, so I will link this info: http://www.uesp.net/...re:Third_Empire

But as far as broken and rotten are concerned, I don't have to travel very far to listen to the common soldiers to tell the differences. Sure; some of the Battle-Borns are scum, and thus I side with the Grey-Manes, but there are far more good end decent examples in the Imperial faction than the other.

I still maintain that they weren't forced, they chose to sign the treaty. It was their choice to end the war, not the Thalmor's not anyone else's.

The Battle-Borns are not the only ones of questionable morals in the Empire. There's the possibility that all the Imperial jarls will attend to the the Thalmor party, each and everyone with their pitiful excuse as to why they're boot lickers, some with worse arguments than others.

Read this: www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Great_War

It is written by an Imperial, and thus has a bias toward the Empire.  Nevertheless, it is an indictment against Titus Mede and his mistaken belief that peace was necessary.  It unequivocally notes that the main Aldmeri armies were "completely destroyed" and that Hammerfell - on its own - was able to expel the Thalmor invaders.

There is zero parallel in earth's history of a reputable power, let alone "THE EMPIRE," capitulating to the demands of an aggressor after a decisive military victory as had happened at Red Ring.

Peace wasn't "forced" on Mede.  He chose it in a fit of ignorance and cowardice.
