I'm enjoying the thieves guild critical quests, but the jobs not so much because they're in random places which makes getting the city influence quests take longer than need be. Wish I could show a preference for a city to speed things along. Oh well.

So far the only glitched quest is the second one dealing with Potema; I've leveled several times in the great outdoors, and completed the first quest (cry wolf) but thus far the courier fails to appear. Ironically, a vampire attack in Solitude killed the elder San and a courier immediately showed up to give me inheritance papers but had nothing from Falk Firebeard. Oh well, not going to worry about one notoriously glitchy quest.

If you don't get the letter, you can pick pocket a note off Falk Firebeard and when it is read, it starts the quest.

Wouldn't you know, the unofficial patch "fixes" this so I can't steal the note, but doesn't seem to do anything about making sure the courier spawns. I tried consoling the letter to myself but it wouldn't start the quest. *shrugs* It's one quest out of the hundreds I've done so far.

One reason I don't get the bugfixes as the bugs they don't fix have no way around.

They aren't perfect, but they fix more than they (inadvertently) break. I'd have a lot more broken quests if not for the UOP (Blood on Ice works perfectly mid-game). Glad I waited this long to fully play the game.

Yeah they may be not be perfect but what they fix I know a way around. I have done BotI a few times already without having the bugfixes.

If you're consoling anyway can't you console the quest stage to start it off?

I tried that using data from this page http://www.uesp.net/..._Queen_Awakened but it didn't want to work. I've satisfied all requirements and I know Couriers aren't being blocked somehow because one spawned immediately for something else, so it's just this quest. I have a feeling something is bugged with regard to the level-up requirement, which seems to be unique to this quest. I might play with it again tonight but I'd rather move on and "complete" the game.

Update: apparently there are fixes on the nexus for this, that remove the level-up check. I'll look into those when I get home.

I got through Wolf Queen Awakened, and Mjoll's Grimsever quests last night, yay for mods. Thieves Guild is done except for 1 stone of Barenziah (in Dark Brotherhood), and my character is rocking her Nightingale gear. Onward to the Dark Brotherhood. The end game will be fun, as I have many friends to introduce to Mephala's sword. Absolutely love this game!

Easiest way to max the Ebony Blade is to get dead thrall, find a companion that is not essecial and is not needed. Take them out into the wilderness, kill them with the blade and cast dead thrall on them. Rinse and repeat til Mephala tells you the blade is maxed. If you don't mind retexture mods, I'd try the Nightingale Prime retexture as it makes the Nightingale Armor set look extremely awesome.

The Ebony Blade is by far the coolest weapon and despite it's crappy appearance, it can make you invincible when maxed. Both 1H and 2H perks effect it which means you can also use both 1H and 2H enchantments to function as "smithing" the sword as you can't in the vanilla game. Combine this sword with the Konahrik mask and you are unkillable.

Really though I enjoy Skyrim since it allows SO many builds to work so well.

My current build is a Dunmer Spellsword who uses Destruction and Two Handed Swords.

Its rather fun in a blunt way.

A decent actor can say "a banana sword that shoots pink lasers and was designed by the well known spanish wizard Don Caster" with a straight face.

That said, the Ebony Blade looks epic!

The Hd Prime retexture of the Nightingale armor does look good, especially at 1200p.

Finished up Barenziah's crown last night (nice looking crown!) and am halfway through the Dark Brotherhood quests. Poor Vittoria; not only did I kill her during her speech but then I undressed her corpse (after throwing it off the balcony) and left it laying in front of her not-quite-husband, who had resumed sitting in his wedding chair. Also decided to off Cicero; crazy just isn't my thing. Shot him with an arrow from the entrance of the final room rather than approach and let him speak further.

The Ebony Blade looks good but I use a modded Ebony Bow on switch with a one-handed weapon. Looked good riding atop Shadowmere last night.

In all of my hours of gameplay, I have not yet used the Ebony Blade or collected the TG stones; simply have not had the desire. Most of the Daedric artifacts go unused in my sessions other then becoming trophies.

But I have killed Cicero on every occasion when joining the DB. The only thing more irritating than that supposed Jester is the idea of him following behind me.....

:P

I use http://www.nexusmods...rim/mods/9385/? because I didn't feel like hunting blindly for 24 stones, although I came by 20 of them naturally through exploration and questing.

Also, regarding Cicero being behind you...

I didn't say that it looks crappy. I said the stats look very crappy to someone that doesn't know how to use it. IMHO the Ebony Blade is the best looking sword in the game but many don't use it due to it's slow stats and no improving.

Had to reistall the OS in my PC and that means reinstalling Skyrim.  Are the any hidden tricks or features I need to be aware of when I try to import my saves from a previous installation?

Believe there are some options at Steam for accurate data retrieval. Check your acct for possible answers.

If you had Steam Cloud active, it should have all of your saves. If you didn't, just try recreating the character the same with the console by auto-completing quests you know you had done and add your items that you know you had before reinstalling your OS.

I'm really enjoying the atmosphere in Solstheim, lots of bass too. Was awarded yet another home after saving Morvayne and am busy as usual doing side quests. Am really feeling immersed in this area.

It certainly looks nice. As a weapon though, it is super crap.

I'll be wrapping up Solstheim this week. Have enjoyed the Black Book content, and it was fun finally disposing of Miraak. I'm four words away from completing all shouts, and had fun helping the people of the land.

Still running ugrids 7, timescale 3, and lately minLOD out to 32768 (versus the way too low default). Also increased grass density in the toolset since the .ini settings are troublesome. Have some modding ideas and am intrigued by Cutting Room Floor and Open Cities (now that the memory patches are available and working) but those will have to wait for when I retire this character. Should be able to do that by the end of April, since I work full time and generally play in the evening.

I purchased Skyrim over the weekend and should arrive tomorrow. I am not familiar with these series so I have a few newbie questions that I hope you do not mind me asking:

How many mods can I install onto the game without it suffering from lag issues? I can easily max any game on my PC but I also like to know how much space these mods may need.

Is this one of these games where you can kill the quest-giver and break the quest?

Finally, which race would be the best for brawling warrior?

I look forward to trying this game out.
