Wow that's very good news to me. Poor scaling and the fact that all areas would just adjust to you (making them too similar) were my main reasons for not liking Oblivion so much.

They look much more rugged and dirty (in a good way) in Skyrim, compared to Oblivion.

They look like they've been in a battle. I wonder if your character will look different before the battle began and after.

Skyrim has a more, ah, "realistic" feel than the other titles, so to speak. In art style, I mean. If Morrowind had purple skies and giant mushrooms, Skyrim is more about classic-western. In my opinion, of course, based in the screens I saw. So it's not a surprise that the presets also look more "realistic".

I do hope we can create characters that look younger and less... rugged, though. Or course, I'll have at least one ruggedly handsome character or I'll be a very sad Dhiro.

I don't know the Dunmar for which I'm currently running through the game with looks like he's about 18 or 19 if he looks that old. Wish I knew how to post a pic of him and I would., Heck I don't even know how to record the games like allot of them do.Image IPB

Well theres always a skin complexion slider which toggles age. Its amazing how simple things like adding a scar can add a couple of years. I think the freedom were going to find in the CC will be staggering. Im really impressed with the little I have heard already

I couldn't agree with you more on this. I just hope that it's all that they say it's going to be an not like that of DA2 which they built up and it turned out to be a big let down IMO.

Thats why you never have high expectations for the works of others red. Though I rather liked Dragon Age 2, but its recent expansion shown what it was ment to be, and it was rushed, if all of DA:2 was made in that manner few could have complained.

Anyways back on topic, I'm looking forward to Skyrim, but I'm going in on it being another elders game. Nothing more nothing less.if its more great. But I won't be going OMG THIS IS BEST RPG EVER!!!!! then I plug it in and go NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I just don't get excited over games now. I mean I have ones I want to play and preorder but I look more carefully now, such as is the case with Dead Island I'm not sold on it being more than a Dead rising clone, so I don't have it reserved, till I see some reviews. Skyrim I think will be good, just as I though with DA:2 and think with ME:3. I'll let them be "Great, RPG of the year" games when I have them in my hands.

Oh I couldn't agree with you more on what you're saying here. Even though This is my first time playing Oblivion or any of the Elderscrolls for that matter there I am enjoying Oblivion. After the hpe of DA2 and pre-ordering it and all and find out what it truly was wa a let down. I swore not to Pre-order another game. But I did pre-order and pay for Skyrim already. I'm hoping that Skyrim is at least as good as Oblivion. If it's better than I'll be even happier.<G>  Untill then though I'll be working on Oblivion. Have yet to touch the main quests or the faction quests yet. Currently just did the misc and doing some of the Daedra<sp?> shrine quest. Just finished up the 7th one.<G>

Eh? The presets look like a better realization of the races in Morrowind. In fact, the elven races look even more alien than in either games.

Skyrim looks amazing and I really don't care what a few haters thing (OMG DIS IS NOT AN RPG, IT IS AN ACTION GAEM/SHOTTER). Though I don't think it will be the "best RPG ever". I'm just excited what it will bring to the Elder Scrolls formula.

Ah yes, the age slider. That (and a lack of creativity) was the beginning of Old Man Waterfall, my first New Vegas character. Later came Old Man Iceberg, who liked Energy Weapons a bit more.

I will continue the proud tradition in Skyrim.

And they're all going to need satanic funerals.

That does seem like the one he would play, especially now that we can have beards.

What the heck if you're going to play a game of some sort might as well make it one that you enjoy playing. Other wise why play one at all if you're not enjoying yourself.

I loved Dragon Age II, so I'm good. I'm worried about Skyrim, actually. Oblivion is a good game, but many, many quests are "meh" - even the Main Quest. Dark Brotherhood is amazing, but only one guild don't make up for all the boring quests.

I'm not hoping for Skyrim to have a amazing main quests and deep characters (I still have Bioware, of course), but I really hope the quests are more fun.

IMO.

EDIT:

@Monkeycamoran:

True, I kinda ignored the elves. But I really get a classic-western vibe from the humans and the ambient. And when I say "realistic" I'm talking more about the textures than anything else. Eh, I'm probably wrong.

The vibe in this game is by default more "rustic" just by the location. Whoever said it reminded them of Rohan from TLotR hit pretty close to the mark.

I'm not worried about Skyrim one bit....the only thing I could see occurring is a massive amount of bugs. Oblivion crashed 3 times on me, but over 350 hours three crashes is nothing really. A few floating horses, too. 5 bugs in 350 hours....thats a bug every 70 hours, and I'm ok with that. The improvements in combat are much desired and there will be no change in the fact there will be a terrible amount to do that doesn't involve any type of combat. Especially now that not all enemies attack you on site, like the giants. If I leave them alone, they aren't going to attack. For everything that got deleted, there has been more than enough added to make up for it. It was imo corny to move around faster than a horse could gallop or jump four times higher than your height. The skills of Athleticism, Speed, etc. were also helpful in the improvement of third-person, but look now at the crafting, enchanting and Smithing systems....if they are deep like they are proported to be, then it more than makes uo for it imo. I will be disappointed if all stats are gone....if I have an enchanted sword, how will I know what effect of damage it has? Is it a rating scale 1-10?

I think the additions more than make up for the subtractions....at least that's my preliminary view before playing. Other subtractions, like the entire magicka school of Mysticism, I truly believe was done to make more efficient and not dumb down. The combat improvements are much welcome. It's not like we are in a tight corridors all the time (only parts of dungeons) or forced to always fight or be in direct combat (stealth).

Ya'll keep posting Rustic and such, I'm going to dress my PC up to look as close to Clint Eastwood in For a few dollars more, and carry a crossbow. The cowboy hat may be a problem.

Oblivion on the PS3 was a bug nightmare. If you have Shivering Isles installed, it is impossible to finish the Vampirism Cure quest, so if you become a vampire, you stay a vampire. The Xbox 360 version also had Clavicus Vile's quest so bugged that the game would often freeze every time you tried it. I really hope Skyrim is debugged thoroughly before shipment.

I'm so friggin excited about Skyrim.  I've heard absolutely nothing so far that hasn't flat out made me giddy.  It ALL sounds  mindblowingly  amazing.   I even love the sound of  the new  'streamlined' leveling system, which many other people seem to be griping about.

There's only one lingering  question I have that I really haven't seen an answer to.  And that's the  3rd person view.  OK, all the promos and game con videos I've seen have said that  the 3rd person camera view has been vastly improved  from previous ES titles.  And the videos I've seen have shown  what the 3rd person view looks like  1)when walking around, 2) when doing finishing moves.    And again, those look great.

But I've yet to see any actual combat action in 3rd person.  Does anyone here have video footage that shows it?

@Yrkoon

I don't think so. Even "illegal" footage only shows fight at 1st person.
