I just want to take this opportunity to express my frustration with Elder Scrolls Online. ESO is very likely the reason that Skyrim DLC and expansion pack support was ended so prematurely. I can't imagine selling 20+ million copies of a game and only releasing 3 DLCs. They did that because they didn't want to compete against their other Elder Scrolls game, which by the way, was then delayed.
So instead of awesome Skyrim content continuing through 2013, we get a mediocre MMO that completely fails to live up to its pedigree. Gaggggg.
They could have put a partial or full hammerfell or one of those southern lands in an Expansion and sell millions of copies again. But BE progressive, because Online games are the future! DERP...

BGS didn't actually have anything to do with ESO except perhaps in an advisory role.
Honestly, after Dragonborn the wheels for Fallout 4 probably started turning at full speed, so they needed all their staff on hand. I'm not too sure how the sales of Dragonborn and Dawnguard went in comparison to the install base of Skyrim itself so I can't comment on that as a factor, but generally people kind of get over games relatively fast.
I'm still overall dissatisfied with the direction Elder Scrolls took after Morrowind. Oblivion as a whole lacked any personality, and even Skyrim itself suffers a bit of confusion and design schizophrenia. I think the biggest strengths of what (In my opinion) are Bethesda(GS)'s best releases, Fallout 3 and Morrowind, is that every part of the game feeds back into the identity of the world.
Every mission in Fallout 3, even throwaway missions like "Collect Ten Scrap" or "Find Pre-War Books" are a reflection of the world. Morrowind does it even better, I don't think there was a single thing in Morrowind that didn't reinforce the identity of the world. Even the items scattered about someone's hut had relevance to the overall story of the land itself. This level of control was lost when Bethesda(GS) started moving to a looser procedural generation. Both Morrowind and Fallout 3 had tons of procedural, but it was all used in a precise manner. Couple that with a philosophical change in level design, spaces are intuitive, but also come off as artificial and shallow at the same time. Things like patronizing "To Entrance" Shortcuts and loops hobble the process of making a believable space. If you want a perfect example, load up Skyrim and walk North of Rorikstead along the Cliffs until you find a Bandit Cave called Orotheim.
All that said, Dragonborn, the final official expansion to Skyrim showed immense progress, especially in Level and Quest design. (Unearthed especially was fantastic, and every moment spent with Neloth is golden)

Right, but Zenimax/Bethesda Publishing doesn't want to compete against themselves for sales. The idea was to stop releasing Skyrim DLC early enough that when people start getting hungry for more Elder Scrolls, they will have ESO to buy, instead of more Skyrim content. This is just my speculation, but it seems pretty sound based on business sense, and you have to remember ESO was supposed to launch in 2013, about 6-8 months after Dragonborn DLC launched. So I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but like I said, it doesn't make sense to have such blockbuster success with Skyrim and only release 3 DLCs unless they felt that by ending Skyrim would benefit ESO. Also, Bethesda has said that Skyrim DLC was very successful, so its not like people weren't buying it.
LOLelderscrollsonline
eso pls
Bethesda did not develop Elder Scrolls Online.
The reason the Skyrim expansion didn't happen is probably because of Fallout 4.
Fallout 4 fans have been waiting much longer than Elder Scrolls fans regarding new content.
Would you deny them a new installment?
Besides Skyrim is massive.
I've had 2 playthroughs and guess what? I've only managed 70% of the game's content (after many, many hours).

Bethesda is the publisher, Bethesda Game Studios is the developer, despite convoluted naming conventions, there is an important distinction between the two. The publisher has no interest in selling two very similar products to the same audience, it makes no sense to compete against themselves like that.

Fair enough.
Skyrim is an epic game. I can see why you'd want more. The game really is that good.
I've enjoyed both Skyrim and Oblivion and wish to try out Morrowind.
I have been overwhelmed by both games.
Given that people say that Morrowind is so good it puts the other two to shame, I hope this one hasn't been overhyped.
I've been trying to get into Elder Scrolls Arena.
It's not so much the combat that is causing me problems. It's know where to go. I keep getting lost.
Mmmm Skyrim, going to play it again when summer heat kicks into high gear.
Currently playing modded Oblivion, with distance rendering set so far I can see the mountains (and trees) around Cyrodiil from any location.
Man, I can only hope that the DLC for Skyrim was cut short because of FO4. I've been waiting...and waiting...and still...well...not even an announcement yet. Just fake sites, fake news, and no announcement but "hey, it'll be awhile"? Hell, we don't even know officially if FO next exists. Just saying as a FO fanatic. "Oh, you know they're working on it," or "logic dictates a sequel" sort of stuff just isn't much to go on anymore.
BTW, weren't there only two large DLCs for Oblivion as well? Isn't a couple of large, well done DLCs and 'horse armor' type smaller ones sort of the MO for ES? Whereas, we get four sizeable DLCs (and a number of smaller weapon/gear packs) for the Fallout franchise? That seems to be recent history anyway.

I don't know about that, but I consider ESO an abomination as far as TES goes, and a rubbish mmo. (Grouping mechanics are abysmal, solo-play is forced for a large number of quests, and the game railroads you down a "savior of the world" storyline. GAG
)
On the other hand, I still enjoy playing Skyrim from time to time.

ES III Morrowind: Tribunal, Bloodmoon (labeled as expansions; back then getting just one expansion was usually considered a bonus)
ES IV Oblivion: Horse Armor, Orrery, Frostcrag Keep (home), Thieves Den (home), Mehrune's Razor (dungeon), The Vile Lair (home), Spell Tomes, Battlehorn Castle (home/citadel), Knights of the Nine (sizable), Shivering Isles (full expansion/DLC)
ES V Skyrim: Dawnguard (sizable; similar in scale to Knights of the Nine), Hearthfire (3 more homes, adoption), Dragonborn (DLC of similar scale as Shivering Isles)
Seems ES extra content tends to dry up after big/sizable DLC are released.
Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Broken Steel, Point Lookout, Mothership Zeta
Fallout NV: Dead Money, Honest Hearts, Old World Blues, Lonesome Road, Gun Runners' Arsenal & Courier's Stash
Am looking forward to the unofficial DLC known as SkyWind. Of course, if it is not out soon, I may be busy playing DAI in the Fall, so it may have to wait. And if that is the worst of my troubles, I am a very blessed gamer.

I like saviour of the world storylines in single player games.
However if I'm "the chosen one" when every other player is "the chosen one" then it quite simply doesn't work.
If you are going to make me the one and only, make me "The One And Only"!
If you're going to make me "One of Many" then don't pretend I'm "The One And Only"!
ESO is defiantly "meh"

I agree - "savior of the world" storylines work fine in single-player games, especially when it's well-done (DA:O comes to mind here). I didn't think Skyrim's MQ was all that great, but fortunately the player has the luxury of ignoring a lot of it - which is one of TES's strengths, imo.
However, it just flat-out doesn't cut it for me in an mmo, especially with how it's handled in ESO.
I mislike very PlayerChar centered storylines in modern RPGs. Specially if the PC is VA'd. Usually it provides a setting where it feels like too much of the personality of PC is taken from player and given to writer and (possible) voice actors. In RPGs, I quite enjoy being an observer to a story far greater than PlayerChar. I like it when I get to roleplay PlayerChar's reaction in some vague, abstract, unaware and somewhat off-screen fashion as events unfold. This begins to feel far less like 'my task' if PlayerChar is some The Chosen One type of a Deus Ex Machina busy saving the day. Worse still if he comes with Full VA. Then it stops being playerchar and starts being JenniferHaleChar.
Skyrim makes a fairly relevant example I recon. I greatly enjoyed participating in civil war and having PC's fate become tangled with powers and schemes far greater than him. I had a part to play but it never felt like I'd be some unwilling nexus of universe. It resulted in storyline that provided an illusion of world that doesn't just sit there frozen, waiting for playerchar to appear so he can do and undo all and everything.
On the other hand, I greatly I misliked being DRAGONBORN who needs to kill dragons and learn ways of shouting and save the world. "Why meD:" asks PlayerChar. " Because it is a video game and you need to do **** like this in a videogame", the game answered.
This is one of the more balanced reviews.
The reviewer tries his hardest to give both negative and positive equal weight.
It's also been one of the most helpful reviews, since they either focus way too much on the positives or way too much on the negatives.
Any news on Elder Scrolls 6 ...?
Nothing at the moment.
It will be a long wait.
The reasons being.
Sorry. It's going to take a long time.
FO4>ESO imho.
You sure about that?
That game hasn't been made yet.
