I just want to take this opportunity to express my frustration with Elder Scrolls Online. ESO is very likely the reason that Skyrim DLC and expansion pack support was ended so prematurely. I can't imagine selling 20+ million copies of a game and only releasing 3 DLCs. They did that because they didn't want to compete against their other Elder Scrolls game, which by the way, was then delayed.
So instead of awesome Skyrim content continuing through 2013, we get a mediocre MMO that completely fails to live up to its pedigree. Gaggggg.
And, it could end up having even harsher
future ramifications. People here simply assume that there's going to be an Elder Scrolls 6. But that might be wishful thinking. The facts on the ground have changed. We now have an elder scrolls MMO. We have no idea if multi-player elder scrolls is the proposed future direction of the IP.
Skyrim came out in 2011. We are now in 2014. (man does time fly or what!?) Normally, given the track record of 4-5 years between ES title releases, this would mean that we are currently 1-2 years away from the next one. Which means that sometime this year or early next year we should be getting some hints and teasers about it (we first heard about Skyrim in 2010).
BUT... again, we've got an Elder Scrolls MMO that just came out. And the Xbone/PS4 version of it is coming out early next year. These are RELEASE dates. You can assume another couple of years of support/expansions/mission packs for this silly MMO that no one on earth ever asked them to make in the first place
So where does that leave ES 6? That's right. Nowhere. ES 5 may have sold 20 MILLION copies, making it one of the biggest selling video games of ALL TIME.... thus ES 6 is a historical
necessity and a complete financial no-brainer. But no. What we really need is another friggin MMO.
