If they make TES: VI as good as the rest, they will make enough money to buy a country.

It depends.

If gamers wait too long then they will have ridiculously high expectations.

If the developer rushes, the game will be a huge let down.

That said, another 3 years is a decent wait.

The MMO would have had a long enough run.

There would be sufficient time for another Elder Scrolls.

In the meantime gamers would be occupied with Fallout 4

ESO literally is the worst TES game ever and places so much shame on the series.

So where does that leave ES 6? That's right. Nowhere. ES 5 may have sold 20 MILLION copies, making it one of the biggest selling video games of ALL TIME.... thus ES 6 is a historical necessity and a complete financial no-brainer. But no. What we really need is another friggin MMO.

Nah, they'll hopefully realise that the MMO direction was a mistake, it's not as if it's getting a great response (I've played it and personally think it's OK, but no better than that, and crap compared to proper ES games).

As to where, could be interesting to know where to go next. Moving continents would be very risky since there would be so much that would have to be different it may as well not be an ES games, but geographically Tamriel has been pretty well covered now. Suppose we could have bits of it reimagined - after all, doubt it's really supposed to be only a few miles across, so there could be all sorts of new stuff if you don't mind treading on the old geography a bit.

ESO is very bad compared to the TES games. Zenimax can't be the ones making new TES games because they just proved to us with ESO that they can't do it.

Elder Scrolls VI: Elsweyr

As cool as that sounds, it'll never happen.

You can't market a mainstream AAA RPG that is themed around a beast race as the canon/default protagonist (which is what it will have to be if the setting is Elseweyr).

There are plenty of mainstream AAA games with 'beast race' protagonists. Why can't it work for an RPG except for the fact that it maybe hasn't been done yet?

Well, to be blunt... Racism. for one thing, most Role Playing Games (and specifically the elder scrolls games), are very personal, and their appeal is very much centered around the average joe living vicariously through their character. It will be a tough sell to market a game where the canon/default protagonist is something alien, like a Cat. Tigger... is not the common gamer's idea of a hero.

But the main reason is Image recognition. Think back to when Bethesda first began marketing Skyrim. Remember this?

skyrim-advert-1024x768.jpg

^they cordoned off a whole city block for that advertisement. And it hit all the right notes. You had the Game's title, and under it, you had a muscle bound, white, male, human (Nord) angrily swinging a sword. Now, for hardcore ES fans like me, I take one look at that ad and the first thing that pops into my mind is: Cool, I can't wait to play an Argonian Assassin. Or a Khajiit mage!

But for the mainstream masses, the first thought is: "hey! I can't wait to play this classic hero". So.... Bethesda masterfully fed off of this. It became "iconic". But imagine if they hadn't. Imagine if that giant ad was a picture of an ugly-looking, green scaled lizard sticking his forked tongue out instead. Or a cute, furry, cat-person with a bright white mane and whiskers pointing his paws at a dragon. It probably would have failed....or at the very least, it would not have appealed to as many average joe gamers.

Does that mean we won't see an ES6: Hammerfell? Considering how so few non-Japanese, AAA games feature main characters who aren't white and male (and human, in Elder Scrolls' case), it would seem so. However, also considering how much popularity the Elder Scrolls series has gathered, it would have a much easier time getting through. Besides, we already had Morrowind, which had a shady-looking, gray-skinned Dark Elf as the default protagonist. Admittedly it wasn't as "mainstream" but it's there.

Just once, I'd like to have an ES game that doesn't have a default race and treats you differently according to who you play as. It would make the modern games look less like one big shallow ocean.

tl;dr

We need more Arabic/Asian/African-themed fantasy worlds :(

@ Yandros - While possibly true, it was an updated picture of the Khajiit concept art that was one of the first things that appealed to me about Skyrim. For once, the animal hero was not depicted as cute, but more ferocious like a D&D Rakshasa. It could be in one of the early pages of this very thread.

Of course. I am not a mainstream kinda gamer; am an older RPG enthusiast. But for me, it was the presentation of a game made with options that appealed to me: Third person view or first, various classes that overlapped easily, plenty of Skills and variety for designs; all placed in a beautimous gaming environment displayed at their final E3.

So basically the game could be named after any province in Tamriel except Elsweyr (land of the Khajiit) and Black Marsh [Argonia: home of the Argonians].

Here is a thought.

Would it make sense marketing wise to have two poster figures for the promotional images?

One male and one female?

The poster image for Skyrim is a male by the way.

Random out of place question: Is Skyrim the better "open world" game compared to Watch Dogs?

Watch Dogs has already been released today in some parts of the world.

Still it is way to early to tell.

Give it a few days and one might be able to make a comparison.

Has Watch Dog's even been released yet?

Here is a bunch of open world games that Skyrim can be compared to (i.e. ones that have been released):

Fallout 1, 2 3, New Vegas

Elder Scrolls Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind, Oblivion,

Grand Theft Auto: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, San Andreas, Miami Vice, Chinatown Wars, etc...

Red Dead Redemption

Far Cry: 1, 2, 3

Just Cause: 1, 2

Infamous 1, 2, 3

Prototype 1, 2

Arcania, 1, 2, 3, 4

Risen 1, 2

Kingdoms of Amalur

The list goes on.

What all these games have in common aside from the fact that they're all open world games, is that they have all been released.

Thus we can actually make a comparison.

Haven't you heard the news about the mediocre graphics of the released Watch Dogs yet?!

Yes. I even saw the images.

They weren't atrocious. Just dull. A game should never look bland, especially with the weighty high concepts at play.

I'll wait for the reviews of the game.

Give it a few days and someone will be able to give you a comparison between the two games.

Though I get the feeling that Skyrim and Watch Dogs are completely different games despite both having their own "open world".

Actually the graphics don't seem so bad.

The gameplay looks awesome though!

This looks like the kind of game I'd want to play!

To answer your question, Skyrim and Watch Dogs can't be compared.

You want to compare Watch Dogs to another game, try Grand Theft Auto series.

With all the hacking you can do, this one could have the edge.

Now that we've got that out of the way, let's talk about Skyrim.

@Abraham_Uk well its easy to compare GTA 5 and Watch Dogs but I was just saying whats Skyrim to Watch Dogs.
Haven't gotten to play Watch Dogs yet; preordered it for my PS4 and am getting it today. My opinion will decide wether its a good game or not. The graphics look really downgraded than what I have seen from E3 2012.

Well. I guess we're still technically talking about Skyrim.

I haven't played Watch Dogs but based on what I've heard here are some possible similarities. (I'm really splitting hairs here).

Both games have a huge open world where you can explore.

Both games have an over abundance of quests that will keep you busy for a very long time.

There are lots of secrets and collectables in both games.

Both games have a form of combat.

Both games have some form of special abilities. (Skyrim has the Thu'um and magic, whereas Watch Dogs has hacking). That said they are completely different type of abilities. Come to think of it. No. They're not the same. They're not the same at all. This point is invalid.

Both games have dated graphics. Though Skyrim's excuse is that it came out in the year 2011. That said, if Watch Dogs comes out on PC and is modding enabled then that point would be completely moot for PC gamers.

Yeah that's all I've got. They're completely different games. You'll probably get more mileage out of Skyrim thanks to PC modding. If you have it on console you'd probably still get more mileage out of Skyrim. Skyrim is massive with plenty to do. Watch Dogs is probably the size of your average GTA game. Thanks to the ability to drive, the map is going to seem a lot smaller.

You're better off comparing this game to GTA 5.

I am having difficulties answering your question. I've only played Skyrim and the two games look completely different. But hey this is my best shot. Hopefully someone who is a little more informed than I would be able to help you out. Oh and watch reviews and read meta critic user reviews (but ignore the scores).

Mechanically and technically, GTA 5 is more impressive. It looks like I am actually in a city that exists in the real world and is believable.Watch Dogs does take place in Chicago, but lots of games have already. The car physics are the best I have seen in a game. The cars feel lifelike and not magnetized to the road. GTA 5 has so MUCH minute detail its mindblowing.
Well Skyrim on consoles( especially the PS3 version) can get really slow and lags a lot. I don't have the luxury of a high end gaming rig or a updated computer in general, but once I get some money, I will get one all decked out!!! Skyrim though shares with Watch Dogs random generation of missions, like the crime probability side missions and the people's backstories. That is one similarity.

Skyrim PC or no Skyrim.

Skyrim on a console is horrid slow and freezes non stop when you get to a higher level while PC has 3 second launch and never has FPS lag.

Skyrim setting: Few small cities + some villages + open world (mostly nature) + caves and ancient underground cities, with creatures from older ES games.

GTA V's: One huge city, few towns and villages + open world (with roads, nature and structures)

Watch Dogs should be compared to GTA V. Instead of being criminal, you're a vigilante though.

GTA is trash

Also; to hell with "mainstream" gamers. I sincerely hope Bethesda does something unique with Elder Scrolls 6. A Khajiit setting would be awesome. Also, who cares what the "default" race/character type is? I have 6 playthroughs on Skyrim going and NONE are Nords. So there! :P
