True. There have been better mods displayed on that show.

There is one huge reason why I chose that episode.

The name of the custom made Dragonborn is Kevin Van Nord.

Cameron Robinson and Sebastian Ford invited Kevin VanOrd, the guy whom their Dragonborn is named after.

I didn't know about the camera mod before, so that was helpful.

Trying to get Open Cities working at the moment; alas it conflicts with a couple of the author's other mods (cutting room floor, provincial courier) and seems to ignore DLC content (esp. Hearthfire) so I'm busy with TESVedit. The end result will hopefully be worth the effort.

I've seen a few of those and they're pretty funny

On the matter of modding, I swapped Open Cities for Cutting Room Floor (also doesn't support DLC) and other mods. The novelty of being able to enter a city w/o loading screen wore off pretty fast since I still had a loading screen for every building, and a house mesh was missing due to bad navmesh edit in Windhelm. Oh well, nice idea at least.

Cutting Room Floor has more good inclusions; worth leaving it installed.

This is a great bargain for those not having played before. Maybe one day we will not have to wait so long for DL's.

Is there a mod that allows you to cast spells or use staffs whilst mounting a horse?

To me it made more sense story wise.

Why would Akatosh's plan involve only one person blessed with the ability to absorb the souls of dragons?

Also why would this gift be completely be hidden from said person.

It makes more sense plotwise if there is a team of Dovahkiin slaying dragons.

Heck the Dovahkiin could be more of a team of heroes of different races and backgrounds taking down the dragons all across Tamriel.

Or maybe that's the plot of the next Elder Scrolls game...

I love Skyrim a lot.

If there ever is an Elder Scrolls VI here are two Top 10 lists for the next game.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Top 10 Introduced Features In Skyrim:

I hope all of these features are present in the next game.

10) Mounted combat: I'd like spell casting and staff wielding to be added.

9) Dual wielding and dual casting: This brought some amazing new combat styles to the game.

8) Werewolf and gargoyle transformations: I think you could turn into a werewolf in Daggerfall, but the feature was reintroduced in Skyrim

7) Perks: I love the allocation of perk points. Amazing system. Please keep it. More skills along with the perk system would be awesome!

6) Smithing: We've always had alchemy and enchanting, however being able to craft and upgrade weapons and armour is amazing. I hope this feature returns.

5) Rare and unique spells: Okay. I don't think the Thu'um is coming back. However collectable magic spells would be awesome. Heck you could have a Druid type guild where you must travel the province and perform dangerous tasks in treacherous places to collect rare and unique spells.

4) Bard's College: I'd like this to return but with a more fleshed out storyline and the ability to play instruments.

3) Immersion: Technically these aren't in the vanilla game. However the Wayfarer tree in Skyrim Redone, Frostfall, Realistic Needs and Diseases etc introduced some amazing new features in the game. It's a shame I played Skyrim on the PS3.

What is in the vanilla game is provisioning. Though not a skill, being able to cook your own food is pretty cool. Another interesting immersive mechanic was the stores having limited money.

2) Mining for resources: Be it chopping wood, or grabbing a pickaxe to collect raw materials for your smithing, this was just a great way to make me feel more involved.

1) Better user interface: Aside from the inability to see your character when trying on different gear, the user interface was brilliant. I was able to find my way around without spending a good hour and a half scratching my head and getting lost. I also love the favourites menu. As a console gamer I found switching between my favourite spells, shouts, potions and gear very handy. It saved a lot of time. An option to go through the favourites menu without pausing the game would be interesting too.

Honourable mentions:

Killcams: Just plain awesome! Please keep those. Settings regarding how often they occur and the conditions on which they occur (like the Dance of Death mod would be fantastic.

Followers: I love the followers in Skyrim. I just wish they had more personality, a more in depth backstory and their own character specific questions. Building a relationship with them and them reacting to my actions would be great too. A few companions like Cicero and Mjoll had more lines of dialogue. J'zargo was also pretty cool.

Standing Stones: Being able to switch between different standing stones through fast travel. I love that idea.

Daedric Quests: A great way to learn about the Daedric Princes and obtain a new artifact in the process.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Top 10 features that weren't in Skyrim that I'd like to be reintroduced in Elder Scrolls VI:

Skyrim may have introduced a lot of new features but they left a lot of features out.

I am not in the "they dumbed it down" camp. However I can't ignore the ten features that are making this list.

10) Armour Pieces: This is another thing that people complain about. People want head piece, shoulder piece, core upper body piece, forearm piece, gauntlets, waist piece, upper leg piece, lower leg piece greaves etc. It's a lot to ask. I don't care about this one.

9) Classes: This didn't bother me all that much. Personally I never felt like the classes mattered all that much, since you can do anything you want regardless of which class you pick. Elder Scrolls Arena on the other hand really did place a lot of restrictions on what the player could and couldn't do. However some people want a return to the Morrowind and Oblivion style class system.

8) Statistics: This is another entry that has been placed high simply because a lot of people have complained about this. I'm okay with stamina, magicka and health. Stat point allocation is difficult to implement right, but this is one of those features that allows players to customise their characters. With the perk point system, and the stats balancing the game is going to be a nightmare. In my opinion the perks are far more interesting than stats. For those of you in the "why not have both camp" please feel free to suggest ways in which both can be implemented with the game being balanced.

7) Missing Skills: I am not going on about skills that have merged into other skill trees. Mysticism can join Alteration and Conjuration. I'm okay with this. Bartering and Speech can be in the same skill tree. It's the absence of unarmed skill (you can still punch people) and spears that bug me. This isn't game breaking. Besides Skyrim did introduce dual wielding. The absence of athletics is disappointing, however if it does return, hopefully it doesn't mean jumping 5 metres high if you tap the jump button enough. That was just silly.

6) Repair and degrading: I liked this feature a lot. Fixing armour and weapons was a nice little touch. It would be nice to see it return.

5) Arena: I know there was going to be an Oblivion style Arena in Skyrim, but it was never finished for some reason and then became only accessible via console commands and modding.

4) More involved faction campaigns: The guild quests are amazing. A little on the short side though. I love the idea of slowly rising through the ranks to assume the position of leadership. The storylines are great though. I particularly loved The Dark Brotherhood  story of betrayal, the Jorrvaskr Werewolf adventure, the Indiana Jones style College of Winterhold questline and the intriguing Thieves Guild quest. I'd have liked to get to know the members of each respective guild better and been more involved in the running of a guild. Oblivion handled this a little better.

3) Puzzles: Puzzles have never been the strong suit of Elder Scrolls. However every now and then there is the occasional interesting puzzle. In Skyrim there are rotate the pillar quests and the key quests.

2) More spells and more staffs: I love walking on water, lifting myself in the air. Okay the open lock spell is just plain cheating. Huge varieties of conjurations. The multitude of stat draining spells. Yes you can drain stats from your enemies and add them to your character for a brief period of time. You can summon armour and more types of weapons.

How about a staff for every available spell? This is another amazing feature.

1) Spell Making: My number one pet peeve. No spell making. I reckon this was because the developers didn't want the Thu'um to become redundant. Still. I love playing as a mage.

Honourable mentions:

I'm not sure if these were in previous Elder Scrolls games.

Ability to craft and set Traps

Trap disabling

Ability to craft and lob grenades.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This is a long list of stuff to keep and to reintroduce.

I don't agree with the assertions that these features have been removed to "appeal to casual gamers".

The gaming decisions have been done for reasons of gaming balance and time constraints.

There are a ton of features that go into a massive 80+ hour game like skyrim.

However, if one or two of the removed features (spell making especially) make a return, that would be awesome!

Please don't consider this to be a "whiny" post where I vent my frustrations.

I have more praises than criticism regarding this game. I truly feel that the Elder Scrolls is one of the few franchises that hasn't lost its charm, scope or sense of grandeur. You have to cover so much: combat, dialogue, environment, level design, enemies, places, landmarks, storylines, quests, mini-games etc. There is so much that goes into RPG's. The Elder Scrolls series has always had a lot on it's plate, and trying to give all of these adequate attention is very challenging.

3 years on, Skyrim is still an epic game! I hope that the next Fallout and next Elder Scrolls are equally epic!

Agree with most. I'll just say that I want to see Bethesda keep their franchises completely separate, unlike (IMO) our host site developers.

Combat systems and leveling should retain unique individual identities. I like the leveling system of Skyrim (use it and it gets better) for ES, but want to keep the point allocated and stat-based skill leveling for the FO franchise.

Dual wielding was superb in Skyrim and I actually like the free aim archery mechanics with a bullet-time-ish perk that comes later on. Those are things that I hope they maintain, as well as mounted combat.

I would like melee combat to be more visceral, where you can feel and hear the impact of bladed and blunt weapons, even though Skyrim's was a vast improvement over Oblivion where I always felt like I was swinging at air. But, I'd like them to take that to the next level.

I like the companions, and too, would like to see that part of the ES improved even further. This was another great improvement over Oblivion, but still has a lot of room for growth.

I personally don't have to have a FO-like degradation system for weapons and armor in ES. To me, being able to craft armor and enchant it is a mechanic that substitutes well over the FO degradation system, and keeps each franchise's crafting mechanics unique. But I will say that I wish you could build guns from scratch (not the crap gimmicky weapons) in FO.

In all honesty, I'm just still waiting for a Fallout Next announcement, so its hard for me to worry in earnest about ES Next. I'll start looking seriously toward ES VI once I can actually play another Fallout game and sink my teeth into it for a couple of years. Its getting pretty frustrating hearing nothing, not even a legitimate announcement that there's another game in the works.

At least Skyrim's still got a lot of life in it thanks to a great (and growing daily) inventory of quality mods.

Interesting thoughts guys. I'll submit a few of my own...

Features in Skyrim

10. Mounted combat: Agreed; a skilled warrior can do just about anything from atop a horse.

9. Dual wielding/casting: Agreed; it's also fun dual-wielding pickaxes for faster mining!

8. Werewolf/Gargoyle transformations: Agree, but want were-cat if I'm playing Khajit, and were-lizard if playing Argonian. Perk tree could be titled "Were-Form Perks" or something to be generic.

7. Perks: Agree! While I enjoy to an extent what Legendary provides, I would also like to have an NPC that let us retrain our talents (if we have spent points in any) for a reasonable price.

6. Blacksmithing: Agree, and let us create more things, as some mods do.

5. Rare/Unique spells: Agree; doesn't have to be more than a few of these; something like Finger of the Mountain in Oblivion, etc.

4. Bard's College: Agree; playing instruments, singing, and dancing would be nice.

3. Immersion: Partially agree; those things that increase difficulty should really be tied to difficulty settings IMO. Stores having limited money makes sense on paper, but invariably games with this feature then throw tons of loot at us (Monty Haul campaigns). I ended up modding the merchants in my game to have maximum possible money on hand, for convenience.

2. Gathering Resources: Agree, and would like to add proper fishing to this request. The game has rods w/reels but we can't use them. There's a mod that sort of makes this work, but I'd like to see my character holding the rod and fishing properly.

1. Improved UI: If they incorporated SkyUI and Immersive HUD, along with the suggested ability to see our character for the purposes of trying on equipment, that would be perfect IMO.

Features not in Skyrim

10. Armour Pieces: this would create a lot of work for the developers, not to mention mod-makers later on. (Imagine making armor fit your favorite body mod.) I actually don't have a problem with the popular system (Helmet, Torso, Gloves, Leggings, Boots, Ring(s), Amulet)

9. Classes: One thing I especially like about Skyrim is the lack of a class system. Leave it to D&D and similar games, IMO.

8. Statistics: I also like the simpler statistics system (adding carryweight and money on hand in the inventory panels). People who like to min/max should probably play D&D or Blizzard games which typically provide tons of stats to micromanage. I don't see this being useful in an Elder Scrolls game. That said, a summary page showing details of the stats that do exist would be nice. We can already view a summary page of our character's deeds in the game so this wouldn't be a stretch.

7. Missing Skills: I agree Unarmed could have been included separately with perhaps a Brawling perk tree with support for two-hand brawling and one-hand brawling (with staff or whatever in off-hand). The game already gives us gear that improves unarmed, as well as kill moves.

6. Repair: I would prefer this being included with difficulty options as not everyone, including myself most times, finds it enjoyable.

5. Arena: This is what I was missing in Skyrim! I enjoyed Oblivion's arena and the notoriety it provided.

4. Faction Campaigns: I would also like to have seen more in-depth campaign, and more relevance given to key NPCs. While I enjoy Skyrim's various factions, I always find myself wishing they were more like Oblivion's in terms of content. (It helped that Oblivion had a faction representative in every town, which made quest hubs easier to implement.) Also, while I don't mind the purpose of radiant quests, it would be nice if they didn't get stuck in the journal forever (I'm looking at you Dark Brotherhood and Companions.)

3. Puzzles: I love puzzles, and enjoy what Skyrim offers; would like to see more difficult puzzles as long as they aren't too time-consuming to implement.

2. Enchanted Staves: Rather than having a staff for every spell, I would like to see plain staves built with available materials (wood, iron, steel, etc.) that could be enchanted with any known spell we have, in addition to 1-2 other enchantments (like other weapons).

1. Spell Making: I felt spell making was a bit redundant as implemented in Oblivion since many spells were readily purchase-able; if it was implemented again I would like to see it necessary for creating all of a mage's spells, similar to other forms of crafting. Want Candlelight? Gather the necessary ingredients and use a Spell-Making altar to add it to your spellbook.

I would also like to be able to disable traps. Whenever my character walks up to a string trigger I always wish I could block the string before cutting to effectively disable the trap. Instead my character breaks the string like a doofus and I have to make sure I don't get hit.

AI: please make companions more intelligent with regard to traps and stealth. These two reasons more than any other are why I play without companions unless required for a quest. If you can't make them smarter about traps, give them all the Lightfoot perk, or whichever it is that lets a character walk over traps without setting them off. I did this for Serana to make it less annoying to have her along for DG quests.

From a technical standpoint I'd like better AA implementation and better shadows in the next game. Over the weekend I managed to downsample Skyrim from a resolution of 3840x2400 and it looked good (but slowwww), then I remembered a custom setting in Nvidia Inspector and got the same appearance without downsampling.

I'm not making this up.

I was walking through a dungeon.

I triggered 5 different traps and lost hardly any health.

The boulders are the most disappointing.

Those things are killers. They are the sorts of things that Indiana Jones would run away from.

Yet the Dragonborn shrugs it off. Pfft. Another polystyrene boulder.

Don't get me wrong. Traps in Skyrim briefly stagger you.

Occasionally some of the mechanical traps will impale you or set you on fire. OUCH!

However those are too few.

If I walk on a bear trap and just shrug it off with a low level healing spell, something is wrong.

Picking 10 from both lists was tricky.
Thats why there are honourable mentions.
There are so many things Skyrim does right. There are so many things Skyrim could have done.

However there are so many features that just aren't practical.

I know some of these made my list of Top 10 removed, but I'm leaning towards doesn't matter that they're gone.

The reason they made the Top 10 list was because I wanted them to be representative of what people wanted.

List of streamlining decisions that I'm personally okay with:

Stats: In my opinion, racial strengths and weaknesses, along with what you get from standing stones and perks makes stats obsolete. You have 3 resources instead: Stamina & Capacity, Health and Magicka. I just don't feel that stats added anything to Elder Scrolls Skyrim. Before the days of perks, stats were an absolute must. Now, they're irrelevant.

Classes: Kind of exist. You have to take the time to create classes. Skyrim doesn't give you a list of classes. Skyrim instead gives you a blank canvass from which to derive your class concepts. Fudge Muppet is my number recommendation to anyone who says there are no classes in Skyrim. The reason I recommend them above the rest is that FudgeMuppet is still doing class concepts.

https://www.youtube....ser/FudgeMuppet

Armour Pieces: Less skill I'm like, okay that is a good example of "dumbing down". Less armour pieces, maybe not. You'd have to lower armour rating between different pieces, and as mentioned above this is more work for developers and modders that could go elsewhere (not to be confused with Elsweyr).

Degradable Armour: I actually liked this feature a lot. However I just don't miss it. If it's in the game great. If it's not, oh well. But perhaps it belongs as part of a New Vegas style "Hardcore Mode" along with thirst, more potent diseases, freezing to death in Skyrim water, need for eating, fatigue actually having an effect on your character's performance in combat etc. People who want to go that extra mile for immersion could have that option, whereas people that don't shouldn't have to be forced into it. Elder Scrolls games have always been about choice after all.

Alchemy anywhere, any time: I prefer the alchemy tables. Why? I like the idea of, sometimes having to drop certain items because you can't carry them. This makes you think, "maybe I should spend more points on stamina or get a companion who can carry more stuff". Being only able to craft potions and poisons in certain areas also an incentive for purchasing player homes.

Birthsigns: I don't know if you can call this "streamlining" because they're present as standing stones. That said I love discovering them and having them as collectable fast travel locations. That said perhaps removing the bonus to levelling up speed, might provide stronger incentives to experiment with the 13 standing stones as opposed to sticking with The Lover. Birthsigns are a nice idea, but I just prefer standing stones. Each to their own I guess.

These come up frequently on "Skyrim is dumbing down" type videos and blogs.

For me. If I was going to argue that Skyrim has dumbed down, I'd pick the following.

Spell making.

Less spell variety.

Loss of certain skills.

Guild quest lines being short

Loss of Cross Bows (pre DLC) and absence of throwing weapons.

Loss of spears

Lower difficulty.

I still find it a stretch to argue that Skyrim has "dumbed down" because of the many features introduced.

I agree.

We know that there are predecessors to the modern toiletry system introduced by the Victorians. Heck one could argue the Romans got there first.

Hole in the ground.

Bathing tubs (with really cold water)

On an unrelated note damn. That's a harsh thing for Seth Rogen to say about Justin Bieber.
