Poll: What is your favorite Cave/Dungeon/Dwemer Ruin?

I honestly couldn't name one favorite that stands above all the others. Maybe the Twilight Sepulcher, because it has some unique parts compared to all the other dungeons. I will forever hate the Sightless Pit, though. As a noob I jumped into that to escape from a frost dragon I had accidentally stumbled upon. I was playing a mage and because everybody told me to go to the College to learn magic, I had taken a carriage there and ended up there at level 6. Because this is a dungeon you literally jump into, you can't go back the way you came, and the Falmer ahead butchered me with ease.

Did you clean your game with TES5Edit?

If not, and you plan on doing so, I recommend watching this.

I did. It was mentioned in the STEP guide and I followed their instructions.

Blackreach was really something else.

It and the Forgotten Vale are my two favourite locations in the game, just because they really made you feel like you just stepped into another world entirely.

Just for the sake of making trouble, how do you folks feel about the relative power of magic -- or, rather, mages-- in the game? I'm giving a shot to playing a pure mage, but I'm considering going back to my old Morrowind strategy of relying on Bound weapons rather than Destruction spells. And maybe armor rather than robes, since reactivating defenses every few minutes is kinda tedious. (Maybe it's just that Lydia's obviously out-DPSing and out-tanking my PC unless I prop him up with Alchemy.)

Conjuration is great for what you're planning.  Summoning the weapon raises the skill quickly and allows you to get a full set of daedric armor by lvl 22.

I never got what the advantage of summoned weapons were- weren't they always weaker than mundane and forged equivalents? I know you could get a perk for soul trap engrained with them, but besides the general lack of weight as a minor boost what was the point?

They're great for low level characters.

When your smithing and enchantment is not up to par, you can get a fairly powerful 1 hand sword, 2 hand battleaxe and bow.

Later one they are not so useful. However in early levels when you're stuck with low quality steel swords and have low smithing, or a weak great sword or weak bow.

There are also the aesthetic reasons too.

I found Bound Weapons great for any prison scenarios discovered in game, as well as dueling hysterical mage wannabes.

Those mage challengers are annoying.

This one time I was in the middle of fighting a dragon who was attacking Whiterun.

Then the challenger comes.

Please could you wait, just a couple of minutes? Let me beat the dragon first, then challenge me!

There was this other time when I was in a middle of a thieves guild mission then a challenge came and ruined it by giving my position.

Indeed. They are slow to conjure, but nothing beats an NPC thinking: "This milk-drinker's unarmed, should be easy pickings-- crap..."

another day, another new house mod, just downloaded immersive armors and immersive weapons, that means i need more mannequins and weapon racks, that means more space, that means loading doors so putting all that stuff in one place doesnt kill the game...also, this time im adding a indoor pool :D

Yeah, that was the idea. I don't have much smithing on this character, and since I'd rather be shot in the face than grind I'm not going to get much more skill anytime soon, I think. (Is smithing for improvements as OP as people say?)

Smithing by itself is fine but I can never justify my mage character mining and working a blacksmith forge.  The conjured bound weapons are daedric equivalent and weigh nothing (more power attacks).  The heavy armor conjured at the atronach forge is also daedric and has a level 50 enchant.  Take the steed stone and your armor will also weigh nothing.

I normally utilize Smithing or Enchanting; rarely attempt to Master both as it becomes OP. Now I have the Alternative Crafting System mod which allows one to let NPC Smiths do the work if you wish.

But where else would you get all those amulets and rings to enchant? Also: transmute ore.

If one can take the verbal abuse, the Radiant Raiment generally will have most of the Vanilla items in stock eventually.

And the problem I have with Enchanting is the top perk which allows two effects; makes items OP, but almost as difficult for my O-C nature not to take it when one has the opportunity.

I would have loved there to be a cap system in place for improving weapon damage.

It would be nice for there to be a point where weapon damage cannot improve any more.

Yes I know there are mods that balance stuff like this, but I'm talking about the vanilla game.

On the flip side: I guess overpowered weapons are really the reward for those who really persevered with a combination of enchanting, smithing and alchemy to create the ultimate weapons. I dare you (without using exploits) to produce an overpowered weapon within less than 24 hours of gameplay.

By overpowered, I mean being able to one hit kill a giant without resorting to stealth.

Poll: What is your favorite Cave/Dungeon/Dwemer Ruin?

Yngol Barrow

I enjoy this place because it begins with a clever puzzle, followed by a peaceful walk through an ancient tomb filled with curious beings and ends with a boss that yields a useful and unique reward.

In essence, whoever designed this level sticks to the basics of dungeon design and nails it without tacked-on dungeon crawl nonsense.

I know the feeling. It was just breathtaking and unexpected.

I became obsessed with its story and why it was the way it was. Cool beans.

Ok, another informal poll:

IF Skyrim had included spell-crafting, what one or two spells would you have made your "magnum opus"??

Same thing I did in Oblivion. Uberspell as I liked to call it. Weapon Damage, Armor Damage Drain health, Drain Magicka, Fire, frost, and shock damage, and a fear effect if they survived.

Assuming it would also be accompanied by some of the spells from Oblivion, I'd create a custom feather spell. lol.

Probably combine it with an agility boost so you're able to fly (walk very fast) around the map. That's my dig,

On the NWN1 PW, I have become rather spoiled for the various Teleportation spells. These, as well as levitation and flight would likely be of interest for myself.
