Without the mods to the game, I would have never been able to sit through Skyrim. The vanilla game was so meh, the interactions with npcs lacked any urgency, the combat was just a matter of "how long do i have to do this until you die?" as oppose to requiring some thought. Yet once i got Skyrim on PC and gained access to the wide variety of mods, it became a whole new game. All the things i felt were missing were now added, and them some. Skyrim is probably the most modded game on my PC right now, with DAO being the 2nd most.

OTOH, I played 700+ hrs in Vanilla, then another 2100+ hrs with mods; enjoyed all of it.

While many NPC interactions are fairly mundane, I prefer to play solo, and any sense of urgency is based on the Player; not the mechanics. If one 'feels' the need to save Tamriel quickly, the Main story, Dawnguard, and some other quest lines have that available. But if the Player wishes to delay for whatever reason, that option is also viable. This is a win-win for me.

And I am not a huge fan of 1H combat, as it does appear to be much like mopping or sweeping animations, but it is seemingly better when played in 3rd person view. And I enjoyed 2H (liked the simplicity, feel, and Kill Cams), and believe that Archery may be the best I have seen in any game; use the latter skill for every character.

What I like about the mods is that they allow the PC to tailor the game as deemed fit; graphics, combat, difficulty, AI, etc may all be improved or altered as the Player desires. This does not define the Vanilla experience as poor, but is more like a grand whipped cream topping of goodness on an already outstanding dessert, IMO.

Mind. Blown. That's well over a year of a full-time job.

On the NWN1 PW, I have become rather spoiled for the various Teleportation spells. These, as well as levitation and flight would likely be of interest for myself.

Teleportation I can live without -- having shamelessly abused Mark and Recall in Morrowind, I'm a bit burned out on the technique. But the terrain is making me miss Levitate; found myself on the wrong side of a mountain from Labyrinthian today.

^A very common frustration. Picking your way through the mountains for 20 - 30 minutes only to find your target location far beneath you at the bottom of the sheer wall you're standing on top of.

Thing is, I no longer have a job due to a stroke suffered back in 2011, so all of this was done while homebound. I used DA2, the ME series, SWTOR, and Skyrim to help rehab lesser reflexes and refresh the mind a bit with tactics and stories.

@Elhanan: Glad you made a recovery. Awesome to hear about Skyrim making someone's rehab/recovery a bit less grueling. I am still hooked after all this time.

Use the forge while Brynjolf tries to speak to you. He'll give up and go back to his stall.

To add to my previous thanks about this statement when you originally made it, I wanted to (belatedly) say that it worked. I made a Redoran warrior who wasn't going to get involved with the Thieves Guild, and using the forge had Brynjolf say his line, and eventually walk back to his stand where he announced the new "Falmer Blood Elixir". He doesn't even approach me at the Bee and Barb afterwards, when he finished his shtick.

So which thief/Rogue perks are worth it in you guys' opinions?? So many seem redundant or silly...

If your planning on a sneak character, illusion magic is great. You'll definitely want to pick up the sneak perks on the right. One makes daggers do 15x damage (or something).

As previously noted, Archery and Stealth skills works very well, as does the Quiet cast perk of Illusion. Also the base perks of your armor and weapon choices. One Muffle enchanted item and possibly another Fortify Sneak item to help insure bypassing foes with better perception (eg; Forsworn).

Personally, I skip the Ranger and Hunter's Discipline perks of Archery, and if one uses more Fortify Stealth items, only one perk in the base of Sneak is needed. I also pass on Forward Roll, as I rarely ever recall to use it.

That's right. Assassin's Blade; it requires at least 50 points in stealth, and it's four points from the initial start of the tree (including the first point of 'sneak'). I also found illusion to be quite helpful with my stealthy characters, particularly invisibility.

The roll works great with shadow warrior.  This guy uses it but he tries too hard to force the stealth kill every time.  It's good to mix it up with regular combat.  Also if you use a single dagger and the reflex blocking perk, no one can power attack you.

Out of curiosity, how do you all feel a member of House Redoran (one who prizes the virtues of duty, gravity, and piety) would react to the demands made by Boethiah and Mephala in Skyrim, story-wise? I know they're part of the Reclamations (given the collapse of the Tribunal) and seen as the "Good Daedra", but I would imagine there would be a clear conflict of philosophy for someone who holds to an honorable path, even one who follows the faith of Azura, Boethiah, and Mephala. There's also the issue of the former Champion of Boethiah, who will admit (when calmed) that he's using the armor to save the lives of people.

That actually makes your character interesting.

Embrace the contradictions in this character.

Perhaps he doesn't view these as contradictions.

Perhaps he has some zealot like way of rationalising these actions.

Or perhaps he starts off as a Reclamation's follower but soon changes his mind after meeting them.

His faith wanes when he finds out about the tasks given to him, and he refuses.

He abandons his faith...

There are multiple paths you can potentially explore.

Contradictions in my opinion are what makes characters great.

You're going to have accept contradiction if you want that type of Dunmer character. Tribunal religion alone is filled with contradiction, and the Temple tersely accepts that Vivec has a dark side like Mephala even before the Red Year. The religion of the Reclamation also didn't fully remove the Tribunal but became saints alongside the traditional Dunmer roster. Many of those saints represent values that don't seem daedric, and yet they're venerated alongside the Good Daedra.
