Only issue there is Bethesda will need a canon outcome to the civil war... so that will suck
What canon outcome? Bethesda doesn't need a canon outcome, as much as they don't need a canon PC. They don't even need to write that the Last Dragonborn chose a side or participated in the Civil War questline. All choices are lost in historical ambiguity.
Would that suck more or less than a second Dragon Break?
Bethesda doesn't need a Dragon Break every time they need to write out contradictory ideas. It was convenient solution to write out the contradictory events of Daggerfall by saying Numidium caused time to break. I don't see an equivalent in Skyrim.
Well, whether or not Skyrim becomes a separate kingdom is rather big, if the next game doesn't skip a substantial time period. What canon outcome? The tear in time Alduin came through and the subsequent deaths of himself and many others of Akatosh(God of Time)'s eternal children? Is it possible to use both mage robes and armor without getting destroyed? I heard that when you do that spells like oakflesh don't work.

Canonicity is not convenient to explain Skyrim's fate within the Empire. It is equally plausible to say that the Last Dragonborn never participated in the Civil War. Skyrim could also be devestated or isolated by extraordinary events, such as Thalmor interference. Whatever side you choose in the Civil War, if you bother to participate, Bethesda will write something about Skyrim independent of the Civil War events just to avoid the details.

The Time-Wound is a localized anomaly, and dragon deaths don't cause entire cities to vanish. Dragon Breaks aren't accumulated events either. Have you read the Warp in the West*? The occurence of the event was caused only by activating the Mantella.
*If you didn't, I highly recommend it. It's a good review of the consequences of the events of Daggerfall.

Word up. I forgot, the next Elder Scrolls will probably take place in 4E 881...

Depends on alteration perks IIRC
Does wearing any kind of armor cancel out the alteration spells if you're also wearing robes?

Yes, especially IF YOU HAVE TAKEN PERKS IN ALTERATION CALLED "MAGE ARMOR"

The spells only work at their base value, assuming you have the Mage Armor perk. Doesn't really matter, because the Mage Armor perk is bad anyway, and so are the armor spells.

Recasting every 90 seconds isn't so bad...

Recasting every 90 seconds isn't so bad...
For less than half the armor cap, with an investment of three levels.
As a robe-wearing mage, you're better off just not getting hit. Save your mana and time spent leveling for something actually worthwhile.

Slow time
I'm a console player myself so this suggestion wouldn't be much good to me either.
Hothtrooper44 had produced a mod of all of his favourite armours called... "Immersive Armours".
In this collection there is a set of armoured robes. I don't know their armour ratings though.
In "Vanilla" game there is an amazing shout in the Dragonborn DLC that provides good protection and damage bonus.
There is also a really good spell that requires you to perform the Alteration Ritual quest for The College of Winterhold.
In addition, if you play as a Breton you get a nice ability that lets you absorb magic.
Or perhaps play as an Orc with their berserker mode. (yes Orcish mages are lore friendly, just unusual).
There are also powerful enchantments and potions in the game that buff your health and resistances.
If you want to be a robe wearing mage, just bring a companion. Or if you have the companion overhaul bring multiple companions.
Just be careful with those destruction spells since friendly fire is a big issue.. Actually with companions probably best to let them do all the damage whilst you support them with healing spells and conjurations.
My idea for a "tanky" ish mage who wears robes.
Level: 50
Race: My race recommendations are: Breton (for their magic absorption ability) or Orsimer (for their Berserker Mode).
Don't bother with flesh spells.
Armour: You're not wearing robes, so for armour you'll be relying on companions, healing spells, potions, enchantments and conjurations as your armour.
Companions: For for companions I recommend any "warriors". Also give them heavy armour. The Companions and Housecarls are a good idea.
Now Perks:
Alchemy: All perks except, two ranks of experimenter, poisoner, concentrated poison and green thumb.
Enchantment: All five enchanter perks, insightful enchanter, corpus enchanter and extra effect.
Restoration: Everything. Yes every single perk. When you face undead foes you'll be glad you did.
Conjuration: Novice, Apprentice, Adept, Expert, Master, Summoner 1 and 2, Atromancy, Elemental Potency and Twin Souls
Alteration: All perks except for: dual casting, mage armour, stability and master alteration.
The build is very defensive. Obviously for the fight against Alduin you can't bring companions, so put a few points into destruction and blast him.
Bring plenty of potions particularly health and magicka potions as these precious resources will run out. Also: using staffs, scrolls and shouts are great ways to reduce your magicka consumption.
Stone: Lord Stone (for defence) or Wizard Stone (for levelling your magical skills).
Shouts: Dragon Aspect and Become Ethereal.
Other good shouts are Unrelenting Force, Cyclone, Fire Breath, Frost Breath, Ice Form, Slow Time etc. They're all good.
Use your shouts regularly. These are like free spells. They don't cost any magicka.
I dunno about that. To get near the armor cap takes a bunch of perks too, doesn't it?( Or are you saying that armor isn't worth it for anyone?) And getting one-shotted isn't all that much fun, though that depends on difficulty level. For less than half the armor cap, with an investment of three levels.

Technically no, depending on how much you're willing to abuse crafting gear. There's also the Dragonhide spell that brings you to the cap instantly, making the mage armor perks and flesh spells even more useless because Dragonhide doesn't interact with them at all. The downsides to this are mana cost and shorter duration, though the latter actually can be improved by dual-casting.

Can I abuse crafting gear without spending perks? I never did the math on just living with iron everything for the whole game.
I think so. Of course, the less perks you have, the more time and cheesing it will take.
And the increase duration perk, right?
That's right.
Sure, the mage armor perks don't do anything anymore once you have Dragonhide. Does that matter? I don't really feel the need for more perks by that late in the game, and they're useful earlier.
Well, I see the time spent on leveling as an investment (even for just general gameplay, not just "power-leveling"), especially if I'm working toward a specific perk or build. I would rather this investment go toward something useful.
Even so, I'd rather just not get hit. This may sound elitist, but it's actually not that hard to do, especially as a "pure mage", with a combination of illusion, summons, wards, destruction stagger, and shouts (especially Clear Skies as a bread n' butter).
Hello, Skyrim fans ![]()
I just bought a new PC and plan to buy Skyrim again (I have it for the 360) so I can enter the wonderful world of modded gaming lol So I was wondering if anyone had any great recommendations for favorite mods. Some of the things I'm looking for...
1. Better CC options... more hair, better skin, eyes, you know the drill
2. Better looking elves in general, especially male elves. I've seen Ethereal Elven Overhaul, and it does make the women look prettier, but the guys are still pretty ganky.
3. Any really nice armor you happen to love
And anything else you just want to share. Right now the amount of stuff that's out there is just overwhelming, so I thought I'd come here to ask for recommendations. I don't need improvements to the gameplay or anything; I'm fine with all of that. (I play an archer, and archery in Skyrim is pretty awesome.)
EDIT: Also, if you can point me to a good step-by-step guide or video to adding mods to your game, that would be sooo helpful. Only game I've ever modded is the Sims. You could say I'm new to PC gaming.
Woohoo, thanks for the links!!
Believe it or not, I already had Golpher's channel bookmarked
I guess I should probably actually sit down and watch it now ![]()
Those character enhancements look nice. The skin is so shiny! But still the female elves look lovelier while the males look like aliens. But it's something! And Skyrim is my first TES game, too, so I get not wanting to stray from lore.
Agreed, that's some bad ass armor! When I played on 360 I remember basically switching between only two sets of armor because everything else was pretty much meh lol
