Can we skip the Kirkbride stuff? I enjoy his writings but if it's not in-game or other official Bethesda works then it's not canon. Period.

How about this: Don't participate if someone mentions Kirkbride's writings? Simple. Neither you nor I will win the canon wars.

There is no war. Michael Kirkbride is no longer employed by Bethesda and any of his writings that have not been published in-game or otherwise officially endorsed by Bethesda, who are the sole proprietors of The Elder Scrolls franchise and all content therein, are not canon. That's the bottom line.
It just really irritates me when people contradict posts grounded in canon lore with non-canon material during discussions about lore and/or future Elder Scrolls games, as Star Reborn just did. There is nothing official stating that Yokuda, Tamriel, and Akavir are "past, present, and future" and there is no (current) reason to believe Atmora is anything other than a simple frozen wasteland as stated in official, in-game texts. If you state otherwise, you are wrong.

You're repeating a line that no one's listening to, simply because you're depicting a clear line of canon that is actually very blurry. That doesn't mean you're denied a right to ignore Kirkbride's writings. But, you don't have a right to declare that you're right.
That said, Kirkbride's legacy remains to be the most influential, most controversial, and the most vindicated in TES lore. Even if he isn't a Bethesda employee anymore, his concepts have reappeared in official texts in Skyrim and ESO. He still communicates with devs like Kurt Kuhlmann, who admitted that Skyrim's depiction is built on Kirkbride's contribution to the First Pocket Guide to the Empire. Ideas from the out-of-game text, Nu-Mantia Intercept, such as the elven polydox towers have reappeared in Skyrim and ESO. Mentions of Mnemoli, which originated from out-of-text sources, reappeared in several books in ESO. Finally, the reference to Hermaeus Mora as the "Gardener of Men", which originated from the out-of-game source, Imperial Census of Daedra Lords, resurfaced in the Dragonborn expansion as the name of a main story quest. These are just a few examples.
In the decade that I've paid attention to TES lore, I have seen his in-game and out-of-game works endure.

Ideas, names, and concepts borrowed or reappropriated from non-canon lore does not presuppose all of the content of said lore is suddenly canon, and official Bethesda employees have gone on record before stating that anything not officially published by them is not to be taken as canon. Their word is law, not Michael Kirkbride's or anyone else not in the employ of Bethesda. I've had it out with TES lorehounds several times over this, to no avail of course but I will stick to it and challenge any assertions to the contrary.

No. It means "eat crow." Just saying, cut it out. Kirkbride is that influential. You're drawing an imaginary line.
Either respect other's right to learn and talk about Kirkbride's contributions to lore or...get out. ![]()

I'll let this go for now. But let's at least try not to overindulge in the Imperial Library and Kirkbride's work there and abroad when discussing things like the setting of the next TES game. 'Tis very annoying.

Advice: Let it go, permanently. Everyone here, including you, have a right to limit the scope of TES lore. Don't step on others' rights to talk about theirs.

If nothing else I think we can agree TES fans are passionate about the game's universe. I've been with the series since Morrowind and sunk many hours just into reading the in-game books, many of which are more interesting than the main plot of the game, and often enhance it. You'll be hard pressed to find a game universe so rich, or at least one that didn't originate in a different medium first.

You gotta give Beth merit for combining every single damn ending of the Elder Scrolls 2 into one possible scenario.
Read, "Where Were You When The Dragon Broke".

Read C0DA, everything IS Cannon. And don't dis Micheal Kirkbride, he is my inspiration and hero. I respect that man. He opened my mind to things I could not have thought of (Or his stuff just made go nuts).
Please be respectful to others if they don't accept Michael Kirkbride's out-of-game work. They have a right, and it'd be better to back off than to push the topic of the canonical status of Kirkbride's contributions. I stand by what I said about Kirkbride being still an influential part of TES lore. It's not necessary to justify it any further in an argument.

It's fine. I think I just needed to get that out of my system in general. Hanging out at UESP and the official Bethesda forums for extended periods of time can rustle one's jimmies quite a bit.

That... would be awesome. They actually have a lot Tamriel built into the game (albeit just rough landforms) but I guess Bethesda themselves decided not to do anything else with it and left it to modders to make something out of it.
Also, I want to call attention to this kick ass archery mod I saw yesterday:

That is seriously cool and I might have to do an archer playthrough just to use this.

Anyone ever had the random turncoat encounter? I was walking along the road south of Windhelm yesterday when a group of Imperials approached.. Then I realized one of them was in scaled armor. She drew a dagger as I passed and attacked the Legion soldiers. I had no choice but to kill them all in self-defense. As I inspected the corpses I noticed she was labeled "Imperial" despite the bandit look...
Quoted to increase chances of reply.

It is also notable that Imperial refers to the race Imperial and the Imperial Legion.
A bandit could be of the Imperial race and not the Imperial Legion.
