And we still see exactly zero footage of 3rd person view combat.
Todd Howard himself said he was surprized to see that almost half of the people demo-ing the game at the last Convention were playing in 3rd person. Yet Bethesda still doesn't feel that it's important enough to bother showing. Ever. Every single video released so far shows walking in 3rd person... or at most, some guy swatting the air with his weapon, but as soon as an enemy enters the screen... Boom. back to first person. I wonder if there's a reason for this. Like maybe the animatations aren't anything worthy of advertizement?
Mute point for me, short of looking at my gear, never use it. And well maybe he just doesn't like thrid person and when he goes into combat always switches to first?
I mean if I liked Green dinner plates, and about half of you like blue, too bad I'm still keeping green. Then again you might be right and there is nothing special about it, then again short of magic, when have the ES games ever made anything nice and flashy.
Right. We're not talking about a consumer playing a game he bought. We're talking about a Game developer demonstrating a product he's created and is now trying to sell. If You're a game designer and your job is to demonstrate the game's features to the public, your specific game preferences are kinda irrelevant.
The game has a 3rd person feature. And every single press release I have seen has, with almost hyperbolic fervor, screamed that the 3rd person gameplay has been vastly improved from Oblivion. Well? Prove it. Show us some spell slinging in 3rd person. Show us if Archery is an even remotely viable option in 3rd person.
If its My product, my money, and my investment, I can damn well have burning monkies running around throwing copies of the games like fecies. Course that might be counterproductive, but at the end of the day its my product, my money, and I can honestly do with it as I damn well please.
And funny enough Such sellsmenship has been known to work, an old Car Dealer in my area for instance when people asked how much a car was had a habit of going "More than you can buy it for" Promtly pissed off, said person would leave, look at the price, then come back and flash the money at him, and go "Oh yes I can!". To which he then would sucker them into the sell buy stating it was a few hundred less than listed.
As to the "hyperbol" as you put it...play Oblivion..look at thrid person, hell even first person. "drastic" improvement doesn't really mean anything, its all from your point of view.
Lets say I ran your legs over and crushed them, then I promise to make it better, you'll most likely expect bionic legs if alot of other people who seen my plans before hand go "Oh man trust him its great!" But in fact you end up with a cast and metal rods to set your bones back in place. Course always bare in mind as with your legs IE the third person, if it was in such bad shape or horrible to see, amputation was and always is an option. So while it IS better, its not what you'ld expect I'ld wager.
So they could have taken out thrid person fully. And while you have alot of hype, remember it doesn't take much to make something that was broke and shot to hell and make it "better" the question is "who's" better. Chances are its a moderate improvement, as they don't consider the thrid person to be used all that much, thus not shown, as if I showed you my plans versus what you think you'll get, you might not be happy.
Then again at the end of the day like that car sellsmen, he might just not give a crap enough to show it.
