Why am I not surprised you are bashing Skyrim?

He's specifically    bashing  Skyrim's 3rd person view combat, which we just saw in that clip.  Big difference.

And I'm not sure how Anyone who's actually played more than 1 RPG in their entire lives can look at that video and  honestly say:  "Wow!   The combat looks amazing!!   It doesn't.  It looks  ho-hum average at best.

Although I will say one thing.   One of the complaints about it has been that it doesn't look like there's any "weight" to the  axe that's being swung.   And while that appears to be true in the video, I'm going to withhold making sweeping judgements  on that for now, since the video doesn't show the guy swinging a 2-handed  weapon or something designed to be heavy like that.  The animations (and the physics) may  actually  be different depending on the type of weapon being wielded.

Its like I told you earlier with the broke leg thing, yeah its average, before that it was in ICU. Can't say I'm surprised one way or the other, and happy I stick to first person in the TES games.

IMO if you were expecting God of War or DA2 style combat animations and hit detection, this game is probably not for you.

Immediately after finishing Oblivion, the devs commenced the early stages of development of Skyrim's engine and made a laundry list of what they would like to improve, with Oblivion as the starting point. If you really hated Oblivion, I would imagine you are probably not going to enjoy Skyrim.

I liked Oblivion, so it's all gravy.

In my case that totally depends on how the world has been shaped. While I really dislike Oblivion, the combat really was not the cause. It was even worse in Morrowind, which I still consider overall the superior Elder's Scrolls game. The problem I had in Oblivion was that I felt that the dungeons were "soulless" and rather uninteresting compared to it's Morrowind counterparts.

The dwemer ruins for instance, where you could every now and then find logbooks and schematics of the workings of a long gone race added a layer of mystery to them. Whereas in Oblivion, the dungeons usually did not have anything else to discern it from the others, other than the name and the layout. The only dungeon that stood out to me from the rest in Oblivion was the one near the imperial city, with the tablets on the ground suggesting that the place was used as a place of worship to Meridia, until something horrible went wrong.

I guess what I'm saying is, that if they add a bit of personality to at least, say 45% of the game's dungeons I'm a happy camper. And since they have a lot more crew now doing the dungeons I have pretty high hopes for it.

Everything they've shown from Skyrim has been pretty much 100% positive to me, and I'm quite sure I'll be enjoying it despite my obvious distaste for Oblivion. Everything from aesthetics to the newly added perk system just seems overall great. The only worry I have at the moment is that you can't apparently block while dual wielding. (Todd never Blocked while demonstrating dual wield, so this might just be a misunderstanding)

The Hide Armor of Minor Conjuring looks nice. Looks like wearing regular clothes won't be pointless anymore.

I posted it on the last page, but it's great to watch it again! The second video in the series has Main Quest Spoilers, so don't watch it if you don't want to spoil any MQ info.

Nah, I was hoping for Gothic 3/ Risen style combat (well, except spellcasting, which sucks in these games). Heck, even Gothic 2 had much better combat. This can't be that hard.

Damn it looks liked they changed the lock picking mechanic. It looks like it might be similar to Splinter Cell though so maybe I won't suck too much.

I actually liked Fallout 3's lockpicking system so it looks good to me.

Ah, that too. Yes that's closer. Splinter Cell has lock picking similar to that too so close enough right? Right?!

I'm glad they changed the lockpick system too. I've mastered the mini-game in oblivion so well that I think the skeleton key is completely useless.

Btw, thanks for the pictures, Chunky! :D

What is odd to me is that I remember reading more than one preview that stated the combat felt like there was more weight behind it and it felt meatier. Where they full of crap or are Bethesda using an older build at TGS for some reason?

Don't kill my dreams!

The game is pretty much a solid copy of Oblivion with some cutting back, so chances are if you liked morrowind more you'll hate Skyrim.

Also @ druss, could be either, heck maybe it does seem like an improvement from Oblivion, which it is. Still maybe not what you expect.

I liked both, just like the majority of ES fans.

Prefer the quests/exploration of MW, prefer the combat of OB.

Why do people like you always automatically assume that people can't like both MW and OB?

Oh sure you can. But if you look at the Forums for those games, most of your volcal fans sure don't

I like the story in Morrowind, but between all the stat bouncing, poor graphics, mechancs, and other issues I just did not even get far in morrowind. A good story in an RPG can only cover up for so much. I liked all the mechancis for Oblivion though, but honestly if not for the sidequests I doubt I would have finished it either.

And yes, I have played >1 RPG in my life.

I prefer how the combat works in a game like OB, movement, timing, blocking and striking. I prefer a system like that to just plain button mashing to perform some flashy ninja combo or turn-based combat.

I've always preferred the combat from Daggerfall. There were different ways to attack with different effects on opponents (stun, knockback) + it was stat driven.

It's still the same version from back at E3. The game's currently being play tested according to TES forums.
