Looks like Breton was nerfed. Very sad.

Really? Breton seems like the only race without useless traits.

So faster magika regeneration is somehow inferior to what Bretons get? Help me fill in the leap of logic you're using there lol.

Bretons get spell absorption. That's instant magicka regeneration.

Yea, but near as I can tell, it doesnt trigger 100% of the time.  Until it does, magicka regen > absorbtion IMO

You can combine it with an item that gives spell absorption and a spell, though.

It's more useful than their magic resistance from previous games.

True.  But in order for that to be effective, you have to be A.) Fighting a spell caster and B.) Getting hit with Magic in general.  Sure, it's more useful than the previous games but I'd still rather go with a High Elf with the faster Magicka regen.  Faster regen is useful in ALL scenarios.  Where as absorption is only useful when you're fighting another caster.  Of the two, the faster regen offers more versatility IMO.

Good to see that my favourite race gets a bonus to magicka regen. =)

Defo playing an enchanter/conjuror/destructor character, although the conjuration perk list seems to imply that conjuration options have been confined to summoning atronachs and zombies :( (although I could be wrong).

Actually, I was thinking about how before Bretons had Magicka Resistance (50, I think?) and now they only have Shock Resistance... I may have read it wrong, though. Eh.

I am excited and want to play Skyrim. That being said I don’t see why everyone is so obsessed with the series. For starters I hate when we have to play in a first person point of view. Part of the reason I never finished Oblivion however it was nigh impossible to play in the third person view in Oblivion. It looked crappy and it was impossible to aim. If they fix this I will be happy in Skyrim.
Next there was really no attachment to the main character in their games. I need to have some feeling for the character I am playing.
Last and easily the biggest is there is really no really deep story. Just a stream of quests  that didn’t really pay off for me. This is probably the biggest problem with Bethseda for me. All I felt like I did was quest then listen to the story by watching a person’s face. The biggest thing for me in a videogame is a deep and complex story, preferably one whose outcome I can affect through my actions.
Hopefully for Skyrim they fixed these problems if so I will enjoy the game. If not I’ll still enjoy it but not as much. I do love the graphics for Skyrim and how open the world is. Not to mention those epic dragon fights. Sometimes I just feel the story gets lost in that big world. I don’t know if this is a day one buy for me but I will get it eventually.

Not to mention no romances or sleep around options. Whats a fantasy game without a lil sex? :P Jk

These are just my opinions though and I hope that for all those die hard fans dying to play it that you enjoy and that it lives up to your expectationsImage IPB

First of all, the series is like a beer or wine;  It's an acquired taste.  You either like it, or you dont.  Cant really explain it better than that lol.  Secondly, impossible to play in 3rd person?  Are you serious?  The only time it was even half way difficult to play in third person was if you were an Archery or Mage character and even then, there were work arounds for it.  Thridly, it looked crappy?  Seriously? *shrugs* It takes all kinds I guess and I suppose your opinion is just as valid as the next.  Its just that Ive never thought of it as looking crappy.  The graphics (as a whole) were a huge step up from MW imo.  Then again, Im not that big on graphics to begin with seeing as how I come from the Atari 2600 era lol.  *Waves old man stick* Why, in my day, we had pixelated stick men on screen that shot pixelated dots out of their hands that killed pixelated robots.  (Very old Atari game called Berserk lol)

That's not to say that graphics dont matter at all to me, Im just not as "fixated" on them as alot of people seem to be.  Which is one of the reasons why Im comfortable playing on console instead of PC.

@Rymen - Oooooo histskin....Then perhaps the enemy suffers the hallucingenic (spellcheck please? lol) effects of Hist Sap when they hit you? Which would be pretty frickin sweet if the enemy comes at you in a group. One of them hits you, they start hallucinating and start swinging at their buddies? Oh yea, instant CC ftw :)

Haha sorry should have been more clear. I didnt play Oblivion for a long time after it came out. So while th egraphics were good they were kinda dated for the time. At the release though they were no doubt top notch. What I meant looked crappy were the animations in third person. I didnt like the way he seemed to move for some reason.

BTW: I was mostly an archer in that game. I loved enchanting my arrows snd just going crazy. I have a preference to speed and precision in these kinds of games. I am more of a rogue type player I guess. That may be why I didnt like it that much. That being said It does look like they made it a lot better for Skyrim. Todd Howard even said they put a lot more work into the third person perspective on this game.

@Mark - Yea, I heard that as well. I enjoyed 3rd person more than 1st in most cases. Most of the archery type character I played, were usually stealth based as well. So I had a nice system of shooting from the crouched position and using the sneak icon as a kind of crosshair in alot of cases lol. To tell you how accurate I was once I had this down to an art, I was able to complete the Thieve's Guild quest at the end where you had to shoot the arrow into the stone to open the door, from the 3rd person camera. :)

I had a lot of fun playing an archer as well. My husband and I always laughed at how my archer looked, because it always seemed like she was trying to show people her bow - not what it could do, but how pretty it was. To this day, it's still a silly long-standing joke between us ("have you seen my bow?") Yes, I am a big dork.

I thought the graphics were great, but by the nines, the inventory system was/is terrible. I tried to pick up Oblivion again a few months ago, in preparation for Skyrim, and I just couldn't do it, and the inventory headaches were why. The endless S-L-O-W scrolling through a massive list of ingredients was too much. But alas, I digress. I'm looking forward to the new menu system in Skyrim.

Ha I could never be that accurate in that view. Maybe I just wasn't patient enough to get used to it. I never did like first person view. Why spend all that time making a character you are never going to look at outside the inventory screen? Oh well, like I said Todd Howard said they spent a lot more time on the third person view for Skyrim so that makes me happy. Also the story doesnt sound bad either. Here's hoping to an awesome game!

Yeah, I think for a lot of people it's just... there, in a market that isn't huge. TES is an also-ran RPG for me, I'll definitely buy it, but I expect it will be pants in its own way.

Oblivion was basically crap without mods as anything more than a sandbox Wandering Around Simulator (but it did that part fine).

I'm also with you on the graphics - I remember when they released initially the content+gamebryo foo was hideously demanding, it would cook the hell out of what was good hardware at the time.

The scenery was nice, but despite that, you fired up the game and were immediately presented with the emperor's face, which looked like a carrier bag full of sausages, right after someone stamped on it.

No amount of stupidly excessive HDR/Bloom (MY EYES!!! ARGH MY EYES!!!) ever made me forget the jawdropping fail of that opening scene, ha.

In general, faces looked like ass on Oblivion, level scaling and lots of game mechanics were broken, and the content and NPC interaction were boring, repetitive and sparse, sparse, sparse. It had the story of a Twilight novel or the back of a cigarette packet.

The list goes on. Still, because of the ease of modding and the fact that everyone was expecting a sandbox game of that type, it was no biggy.

I expect we'll see the same sort of thing from Skyrim, and if we don't, if it's some crazy magnum opus TBH? That's gravy.

Ha, I used to love a good romance, but sometimes it's relaxing to play an "RPG"where you don't get hit on/sleazed at all the time by men, women, horses, table legs, lamp-shades and spoons. Even if there is sod all story and you're mostly just wandering around hunting wolves in the wilderness.

I hear ya! Theri is just something fun about shooting an enchanted arrow that explodes and sends everybody flying lol. I think what added to it was a was master thief so I loved just sneaking around and then when they werent expecting it... BAM!!! Its a great feeling lol. The inventory was a serious hassel so it's a good thing they fixed it. Oh and everybody has a nerd factor. Something they just go nuts over. Its cool nerds are in now havent you heard. Whats funny is my cousin and I tried to teach his fiance how to play, Everytime she would shoot an hour and miss or get caught sneaking she would freak and run her character in circle's haha. My favorite thing in the world to do in Oblivion with most of my stealth characters was to take my bow, knock an enchanted exploding arrow while crouched down right behind the enemy, and then let loose and watch them literally fly 50-60 feet in the air (sometimes higher lol) strait up in the air.  It worked best when you hit them in the feet because then, the force of the explosion would send them strait up B)

Yhe game itself thats what Bethesda is good at, games where you can just get lost in a huge open world. I just wish it didnt sacrifice a good story for it. Also about the romance I think that it is nice to play an old school RPG sometimes its just one of those things I wouldnt be ok with if BioWare tried it ha. I think my biggest problems with The Elder Scrolls is that I am a writing Major. I want to be an author one day. I love writing creative stories and making deep 3-dimensional characters. And whats a good book without romance? My point is I love the story so when it plays out as shallow it hurts the game for me. However Bethesda has its strengths and they should play to them.

Oh yes, Oblivion is just puddle-deep, I've never been a big fan of the TES writing to be honest - not only because it's superficial, though, I'm not keen on the tone sometimes, and some of the lore and races.

I would definitely go as far as to say "Oblivion is NOT an RPG", too, but I won't go down that road. There be.. erm.. dragons, ironically enough.

We had to turn the difficulty all the way down so she would stop dying. Good Times!Image IPB

See, this is the kind of moment that a game like Oblivion gets you.

I had some pretty cool spells, I used to enjoy taking my super-evil mage into the big city with them and killing pretty much everyone with waves of my char's hand.

There was lots of scope for comedy death in the spell creation system - especially paralysis and control.
