Well there is just over a month for the release of the game. Not sure when it turns gold as I don't know how long it takes to make all the disks for which they need to make for the game. I can imagine that they need to make a whole lot of them. Especially since they are releasing it for both the pc and console the same day.

I don't think we will get any new videos. :(

I'm pretty sure Skyrim commercials will be an edited gameplay trailer, and Pete Hines has given no indication of new footage.

We will probably have the main quest spoiled before the end lol.

Games usually go gold at least 3 weeks before the release date, perhaps two weeks but it seems like more and more publishers are pushing games out so that the stores get them ahead of time, at least where I am where just two years ago most games weren't available until Wednesdays because games weren't shipped out until the release date for the most part.

Well than if Skrim holds true to others than that means in just about 10 days it should be going gold. So folks figure around the 18 th of this month it going gold. Barring any problems of couse.Image IPB

So is anyone else worried about the third person game mechanics for Skyrim?

I played Oblivion for the 360 and instantly became a big fan. The first person was decent, but I liked the third person view of the character seeing the world around me and the cool looking elven armor. The only two problems that occured in third person were:
A) Using a bow became extremely diffcult
B) Target spells were difficult to use unless they had a radius to them

So I was wondering if anyone or if any news has arisen that the mechanics for third person became a little more third person friendly. Trust me, I LOVE first person games, the original Halo my all time favorite game, but something with swords and shields in a screen taking up so much room makes me, I don't want to say closturfobic, but annoyed because I can't see everything that I want to.

I can agree with you for the most part on this here. Even though I'm very much enjoying the game with this being my very first playthrough and being new to the ES series in General I feel the 3rd person could have been allot better. Bows which I'm a big fan of and spells which I can take or leave themImage IPB are only good if you are using them in the 1st person. Which means not being able to see your full PC. What good is having great looking armor like the Daedric if you can't see it on your player? Image IPB

^The Devs swear up and down that 3rd person has been improved for Skyrim. And people who were able to play an hour or so into the demo at the various game-cons also seem to be saying the same thing.

I hope they're right, because I'm in the same boat. if 3rd person is done well, then that's the view mode I will prefer to use.

While oblivion could be played in third or first person the game was clearly designed around the first person experience which led to weird combat animations in third person.  When I play oblivion I would always be in third person when I was traveling or just walking around in the cities etc... but when  I was in combat situations or on a critical mission I would switch to first person.  Now I imagine they have worked on this for skyrim but from what I have noticed when watching demos etc... It will probably still be preferrable to go into first person mode for combat.   Though when just walking around I will be in third person because I will want to see the character I created.

I'm the same way as I don't fast travel nor do I use a horse. I feel a horse is to much of a pain would have been better if you could have used the mouse with him/her as well but that wasn't to be. But when travelling through towns or between areas I'll use 3rd person but when I'm doing a quest since I mainily use stealth and a bow I'll go 1st person.

I think it would be crazy not to be in first person when using a bow for melee combat third person is still doable but for ranged combat with a bow gotta be in first person.  Not big on magic but from my personal experience when I actualy have used it in oblivion wanna be in first person when using destructive magic.

Most definatly you've got to be in the 1st person when using a bow that is a given there. And like I said that is the first weapon for which is always out when I'm in a dungeon. Three things for which I triy to get up as quickly as possible were my stealth, armor, <Heavy, or light>  and my marksman.  As for the spells the only one for which I pretty much worry about is restoration. There have been lots of times recently for which I've been using Umbra due to the fact that I needed Soul gems filled  for recharging Items so my blade skill has been going up pretty good.Image IPB

One thing for which I do hope that Skyrim has that  I noticed Oblivion lacks is blood and gore. Come on now folks how can you nail someone with a sword or axe and not see any blood splattering? You see more blood on the prime time t.v shows.Image IPB

I prefer third person and lock ons, first person just feels like I can't see enough of what's around the character. Since Skyrim there shouldn't be any problems, I will be playing exclusively in Third Person.

I don't use magic anyway, well sometimes I use buffs or healing, but I will be concentrating on leveling up melee abilities.

Let's not forget how in Oblivion without mods that in the third-person camera view the character floated over the ground awkwardly. I'm normally big on third-person but not for my TES....its first person for me the vast majority of the time. It's more...shall I say...engrossing and absorbing that way for me. But bar none third-person looks leagues better for Skyrim and will most likely be the same for Fallout 4. I use third person to look at my character now and again and will most likely do the same for Skyrim...maybe a tad more often. I might mix it up here and there....probably will be a 90%-10% ratio in favor of first-person.

I'll play Skyrim alot like I played Fallout 3, a mix of first and third person views. In caves I tend to use first person views, while in the open I use third person view to keep on top of things. I'm also unsure whether third person melee combat is a possibility for me playing the game yet so I don't know how much I'll use third person yet for combat.

This question was posed about 20  pages ago, and didn't generate a whole lot of discussion.  But I think it's a little more relevant now, so I'm going to chime in:

Btw are 'we' continuing this thread after release or just letting it die?

My first guess is that this thread will  come to an abrupt e-death as soon as Skyrim comes out, or shortly thereafter,  as just about all of us will be off playing the game.

But maybe   we'll later be using this thread to post screenshots of our characters and/or ask for game play advice, or discuss what we've found/done.  But personally I'd rather new threads be made for  that kind of stuff.  But it's not up to me.  And I'm not sure what's allowed and what isn't on this forum with regards to games that  Bioware didn't make.

Polish Skyrim Dialogue

Sorry I can't translate it, but a guy on the Bethesda forums said it has some spoilers about the Greybeards in it. It also has some English dialogue I heard about the Imperial Legion.

Im like this. I love exploring and wandering the world in 3rd person, so its so nice to see such a good overhaul.

Combat still looks clunky, inaccurate and ropey in 3rd, but that ok because I always fight in first person anyway.  B)

Yeah hard to understand what going on there.  If you can understand Polish I bet its a great vid, it seems quite interesting

I'll be playing in third person the majority of the time. I'm happy with what I've seen in videos.
