I prefer third person and lock ons, first person just feels like I can't see enough of what's around the character. Since Skyrim there shouldn't be any problems, I will be playing exclusively in Third Person.

I don't use magic anyway, well sometimes I use buffs or healing, but I will be concentrating on leveling up melee abilities.

I pretty much played Oblivion in 3rd person as well unless I was playing a mage.  Even my Archer characters I managed in 3rd person most of the time by using the stealth icon as a kind of crosshair for my sneak attack shots.  About the only time I really couldnt get away with it was if I got spotted.  Then, Id either have to switch to a secondary weapon or, more often than not, just go into 1st person mode and take down the mob that way and then go back into 3rd.

But hopefully, the improvements to 3rd person in skyrim live up to our expectations.  Hell, most of the problems in Oblivion (IMO anyway) with 3rd could have been solved with a kind of 3rd person crosshair.  Or better yet, a kind of "over the shoulder" view when you got to knock an arrow or ready a spell.  *looks around frantically* Why is it not Nov 11th yet?!?! :crying:

I don't know why, but I like Fallout 3 in first person because I play it more as a shooter. But when it comes to melee RPG, I prefer third person like Oblivion. I played a High Elf, all time favorite class, so I would spam magic every where and create total anarchy.

Even if they don't have a lock on feature, I wish they would have like a reticle to target spells and arrows. I use to always use FP mode when sneaking, but then I discovered I could be quite accurate when firing spells or arrows by using the eye reticle. Sneaking in Third person is so much better cause you can look around corners before trying to move in to pickpocket.

Its nice to find out that they made the animations and gameplay better for third person mode. I don't follow Skyrim that much, at least not like ME3, so I don't know much about what's going on.

Still sticking to first person unless I'm ledge walking or want to see my armor.

I ledge walk in first person too, I don't want to live forever.

Having downloaded the walkthroughs on xbox live and watched them on the big screen I noticed that the PC still isn't really touching the ground in the third person view and is kind of floating over it in some of the shots. Its still an old build though so it might get fixed.

Oh, Bethesda. You were doing so well with Oblivion's worldmap being intelligently designed.

So...erm, hai.

I'm LPPrince. Veteran Bio forum user, the guy you want to hate and throw things at if you want to hurt the guy indirectly responsible for starting the Tali craze way back when(shivers at the thought of the stones being thrown).

So, with my disappointment in DA2, I figured it best if I look for a possible DA replacement for my RPG needs.

If DA3 is more akin to DA2 than DAO, I'll likely quit it.

But here I am. A man who will one of these days walk into Gamestop and preorder The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

I'm a newb at TES. Don't know much. Currently doing a lot of research about it. I've known about the series from many years ago, but never was drawn in enough to play it.

That stops now. On the 11th I will have Skyrim and I will be playing it.

Thing is, there's a lot of things I don't know. Too many questions to list, too many answers not already had.

Soooooo,

Would you Elder Scrolls veterans mind walking me through what in the hell The Elder Scrolls even are? What's the series about, races, places, etc etc?

Basics are good. I'm already getting that from the wikia, so I know about Imperials, Nords, Redguards, Bretons, Orcs, Khajiits, etc etc, but I'd also like to hear what you all have to say.

So go ahead, make my day.

TES is about delicious gay sex. Sometimes furries.

And Dark Brotherhood.

KenKen- Sure glad that we've now got an English map in addition to the Russian one. Not sure how good your Russian to English translation would be.<LOL>

@LPPrince Off the top of my head:
The Elder Scrolls are scrolls in which anything that is written on them becomes a point in history and can't be changed.
At the start of each game you are a prisoner and as such can create your own backstory (just not one the game will acknowledge).
You can do pretty much anything you want. You can go through the main quest, do side missions or explore. It's an open world game so basically complete freedom after your character has been created.

Dude, I didn't even know what the hell an Argonian WAS until a few days ago.

And WHY do so many people like them?

We're humans, and there is a natural predisposition to play our own race, so I understand the love for playing say a Nord, Imperial, Breton, or Redguard.

But what in the HELL makes an Argonian such a popular type to play?

Is it the stealth? The scales? The breathing under water? The horns?

I am legit confused.

What are the Elder Scrolls?

These powerful tools of prophecy and divination, the prize of the
Empire, tell of every event that ever has happened or will happen. The
Cyrodilic Moth priests, who are their keepers, invoke the Elder Scrolls
by ritually attuning them to a specific time or space and attempt to
interpret the glyphs that form upon their surface.

The Scrolls are believed to be kept in the Imperial City and may be
stored in the Hall Of Records, which is itself likely to form part of
the Imperial Palace.

The Moth priests belong to a monastic order founded by Tiber Septim
and dedicated to the god Julianos, the Cyrodilic Divine whose sphere is
'literature, law, history, and contradiction'. It is likely that they
form part of the Nibenese Cult of the Ancestor Moth.

The idea of role playing something completely different perhaps, same with the Khajit and the Charr in Guild Wars. I've already got my Charr character mapped for Guild Wars 2 whenever it comes out.

I actually prefer role playing someone completely non human than pseudo human races like dwarves or elves.
