Other than being a limit on inventory...I have no idea if it affects stamina. I hope so.

Someone correct me on this.

While waiting for that answer, what about what I think are elven names for things(Dunmer, for example).

I'm gonna have to learn what those are(names for different races), aren't I?

Each elven race has a second name, so to speak. High Elves, Altmers. They're not really used in game, I think, but most TES fans use it.

In that case, I guess I can get away without caring. Whew.

Any references expected to past TES games?

Dark elves are called Dunmer.
High elves are called Altmer.
Wood elves are called Bosmer.

LPPrince:

Welcome. Get prepared, because The Elder Scrolls are absolutely enormous open world rpg crammed pack with lore (dialogue plus 300+ readable books), dungeons (150+ in this game, all hand crafted...some taking hours to go through), towns and cities, points of interest, factions, side quests, and a main quest....and many other places of interest.

Be who you want, do what you want and play however you want to. In Skyrim there are no classes, but if you want to stick to a doctrine you can. When you first step out into the world, you will most likely feel overwhelmed (we all do...even veterans) but my suggestion is to take your time, explore, really check things out (not just unlocking them on your map).

There is a lot, a lot, a lot of loot if you look and a house in each city you can purchase/obtain to store things from your inventory....neatly categorized in your house if you desire. Each house has an owner...every NPC has a job or duty and a schedule.

Take your time and really explore. I like to hold off on the main quest for a while and just go do other stuff...I usually will seek out merchants and see if there are any items for sale I can obtain by looting and selling....I farm a few dungeons for loot and try to find some enchanted rings early on I can wear to help a low level character.

Also worth noting...little tidbits......

-the 'Daedra' are the so-called gods if The Elder Scrolls universe....they dwell in a dimensional plane known as Oblivion but may still interact with mortals.

-There are five Schools if Magicka: Destruction, Alteration, Restoration, Conjuration and Illusion. Spells are categorized into these Schools...get good at the Schools you like the most or at all if you want. You can be better at some than others.

-There are vampires in the game and you can become a vampires and it effects your stats....and there is no cure (some enchanted items help with negative effects....some effects are positive, though), so be wary if coming across a vampire. Ogres were hard in Oblivion but not sure if in Skyrim. Spriggans are annoying...will damage Luck (in Oblivion at least) and conjur bears, who at early levels might pack a punch. Be on the lookout for Liches as well...and giant spiders check into this game....not sure of difficulty. No doubt dragons are the biggies this game....first appearance in TES and there's a reason. They free roam, so you might turn the corner and see one perched on a cliff oblivious to you or one might see you before you see it.

These games are huge. You will see lots of loot available...some is useless, some valuable in some way and some very valuable but rare compared to others. Some is laying on a table or floor for you to snag...all books can be picked up and read. If you have food or a meat...cooking it makes it better stat wise.

Duel wield anything unless its a two-handed heavy weapon. And beware the mudcrab....deadly on impact, I tell you!

Probably. But considering that Skyrim starts 200 years after Oblivion, nothing major, I think.

Didn't carrying lots of stuff make you run slower in past games? No idea about Skyrim though. It never used to affect stamina though, well, it used to drain your stamina faster because you ran so much slower but eh.

Also just a correction, but the terms 'Dunmer', 'Bosmer' and 'Altmer' are used frequently in the games, but always mixed in with various more traditional terms such as 'dark elf'. So while it's true it isn't necessary to know them off by heart, you will probably know them well enough after playing the game for a bit.

Morrowind in particular had Dunmer stuff coming out of it's ears. Skyrim should be lighter on that though I guess.

I recall it did, but getting a great Athletics skill or a Speed attribute usually makes up for it. With attributes being removed and the addition of sprinting though, I don't know how it works in Skyrim.

Yeah likewise, I heard from people who played it at Eurogamer that your fatigue bar gets trashed pretty quickly at low levels, but I have no idea if that has anything to do with your inventory. It made me smile though, reminded me of Morrowind.

Okay.

First, as Apollo stated, it's used interchangeably in Morrowind and Obivion dialogue and quite often as well.
Second, knowing the alternate names of the elves isn't obscure lore. On the contrary, it's common. Plus, it'd be nice for LPPrince to come into a thread without saying "what is an bosmers? is it new race?" To state it's something to be brushed over is absolutely wrong.

I never said it was obscure lore and I did put a "I think". But thank you :?

Goddamn it.

Well, at least that one is easy to associate with Orcs.

But, you give the impression that it's a minor fact. I'm not trying to overwhelm him into the lore of the series, but it'd be nice to ease people in the common terminology of the game world.

Now that is a question I'm interested in knowing myself.

The old games were notorious for their 'psychic guards'. Basically you could steal a carrot from Smalltown5 and not only would all the nearby guards be instantly aware of your misdeed but all the guards in largetown2 on the other side of the map as well.

Mods were released which greatly helped this issue, but I have no idea what Beth themselves have done to make it more realistic. I think I heard whipserings that it is still somewhat present, but much less so, but take that with a pinch of salt as I can't think where I heard it.

In a broader sense, thieving is a big deal in TES. It's one of the cornerstones of the series alongside Magic and Bashing People Really Hard On the Head. It can be a very profitable way of making your way through the game, there is usually a 'thieves guild' which caters to your stolen goods, and talents, with quests and fences as well as being able to pay off your 'bounty'.

Your bounty used to be generated whenever you commited a crime. Different crimes carrying different 'costs'. All you had to do should you be caught by a guard would be to pay off your crime, even if it was mass murder (although there is a point where guards 'shoot to kill' and you have to yield to them to get that chance). Naturally some bountys are massive, however, and paying them off is unrealistic unless you are loaded or cheating. Smaller ones come with a hidden cost too: You lose any stolen goods you have on you (again, this is for the old games). Your non-stolen goods are kept in a locked chest in the local jail.

Should you elect to serve your sentance, the time in which you spend in a cell depends on the bounty size also. The longer you are inside the more your skills can drop too, which can be annoying.

Besides what Apollo said, you can runaway into another part of Skyrim.
