By the way, who's gonna be a beast and punch the Final Boss to kill them?

I'm guessing that Alduin will be able to use most of the various dragon shouts against the player, perhaps even including the "slow time" shout. So he should be a pretty formidable opponent on the highest difficulty setting.

Well its been confirmed that your characters face is set after the intro, so that means a lot of time in the CC for me. I know im going to be looking at her for 250+ hours  so I need her to be nigh-on-perfect.  Cant be doing with little nagging issues!

I always spend hours on my characters face trying to make it juuuust right.
And I always saved the game just before the 'final edit' option (in Oblivion that was just as you were leaving the prison dungeon to go out into the wide world, in Fallout 3 before leaving the vault, etc).  That way if I got out and decided that I didn't like to look of my character, I could go back and tweak them there without having to replay the whole intro.

Wait, what do you mean by "intro"?  you mean  prison?

Because Todd said that you'll have 2 chances to  fiddle around with your appearance.  Once at the very start, and then again right before you exit the opening dungeon.

LPPrince-I highly doubt that you'll be able to punch kill Alduin after all dragons are formidable foes in their own right. Or at least they are in most games for which I've played thats had them in the game. I just hope that the boss fights are made allot harder in Skyrim than what they have been so far in Oblivion.

tishyw- I'll havve to admit that I don't spend hours on my character but I do spend a little time on creating him/her so that they look decent. I do have a saved game just before you leave the sewers as well. That way I don't have to go through all the beginning intro/tutorial stuff once again. After all if I'm not mistaken from the point just before you leave the sewers of the prison you've got the chance to re-vamp your full character.

Yrkoon- Yes I remember him saying that as well just like we were able to in Oblivion. We created a character right at the beginning and were able to change things just before we left.

With all this info about skills, I don't think I've ever heard how you raise your stats.

And isn't there going to be one for fighting barehanded?

Stats have been removed.  (that is to say, strength and intelligence and stuff like that  are gone)     There's still Stamina, Magika and Health, and you get points to spend on those whenever you level up

Well than if the Stats have been removed what will deterine weight and the amount for which you are allowed to carry and such?

When I read this at first it made me sort of apprehensive to the idea.  Then I realized, it's basically the same as the other elder scrolls games only more, and I say this tongue in cheek considering where we are lol, "streamlined" or "simplified".  That's what it seems like anyway or am I missing something?

Well the stats system was a big weakness in Morrowind and Oblivion (particularly the latter). You would benefit from taking skills you weren't going to use as your primary and secondary skills. It's an absolutely crazy system. If controlled leveling (ie. not leveling until your multiplier is high enough) no longer makes sense, that will just make the game a lot better.

Getting rid of stats entirely is a different story. Fallout 3 and NV both had stats, and the leveling systems were still a lot better than they were in Morrowind and Oblivion.

I guess I'll have to wait and see how well it works.

That is true but if he's anything like the bosses in Oblivon 2 hits and thier done than you won't have the chance to punch him to kill him.<LOL>

I wont contest that logic because, well, it's true lol.  I cant tell you how many times I took certain skills on some of my characters just as a "leveling" skill.  75-80% of the time, I didnt do that though.  But if I was just screwing around, then yea.  I was to the understanding (before I was educated to the contrary) that it was going to be like FO3/NV.  Im not worried about it really, as at this point Im taking your approach basically and saying "Let's wait and see"

I wonder if I do the main quest first or last. In Oblivion there were times when I basically did everything else first and main quest after everything. That was mainly because I didn't really like the hellish oblivion and closing the gates wasn't that interesting. Skyrim's story seems a bit more interesting.

I don't know exactly how base carry weight is calculated. It might be related to your Stamina, which governs how long you can sprint, etc. In any case, there are also perks you can get that enhance max carry weight.

The Pickpocketing skill has a perk called "Extra Pockets" that increases carrying capacity by 100. Also there is a Heavy Armor perk that makes the armor weigh nothing.

Well when I say "wait and see", I am actually pretty optimistic. I'm very happy they're completely changing the leveling system. Best thing they could have done. Will the new system be good? I don't know, but I couldn't like the one in Oblivion much less. It didn't ruin Morrowind for me because that game did not have insane scaling at the same time.

But the atmosphere and freedom with tons of quests and things to do and places to explore outside the main quest were what made me love Morrowind. From what they've shown in the videos, Skyrim seems solid in this regard as well. If they build a roleplaying system around this that's merely decent, it's going to be awesome for me.

So yeah, I'm curious about the leveling system. But most of all I'm looking forward to the game.

Well good to see that you can get things to where your heavy armor weighs nothing or at least donesn't affect your weight. Of course it's like that in Obvlion as well. Once you are master in Heavy Armor your armor weighs nothing when equipped. With light armor it's expert.

I would imagine the stats are still there behind the scenes in some form its just that they're fixed depending on your character choices.

I'm in the middle of Fallout New Vegas and while I set the stats when I create the character the only chance I seem to get to raise the stats is through one of the perks.

Never played Fallout at all but from the sounds of it thats the way for which Skyrim is going to work as well. You raise the stats through perks. Not sure how thats going to work out. Guess we'll have to wait and see in about a month.

Now I just hope that the folks @ Bethesda got wise and realized that a "Potion of Cure Paralysis" which "cures paralysis on self" wasnt a good idea. After all if you're paralized how are you suppose to take a potion?!

I just got a sick image in my head of some pimped out argonian character leaping off of a mountain towards some other mountain that Alduin's on, the Argonian with his fist back, about to rip his ****.

You can also raise them through implants. You can get one implant per point of endurance (the point you get for the endurance implant does NOT count towards this). Seek out the medical clinic just outside the strip on the east side. Bring boatloads of cash. I mean caps.

There are also non-stat implants. You can get sub-dermal armor (increased DT) and health regen (extremely slow though).

There are even walkthroughs of how you can get your intelligence implant early enough in the game that you won't miss out on skill points. I did this for my characters. It's not hard at all. Not really worth it with all the expansions though. We're all swimming in skill points now.

I'm  staying on the fence and  witholding all judgement on that until I have the game in my hands and I've played for a few hours.  If  the system  does feel like it's been dumbed down or unnecessarily 'streamlined', then I will be the first to come on here  and b*tch.

It's an important issue.   And as such , there's no logic or justice in giving it an instant pass just because  it's Bethesda doing it.   Nor does it  warrant criticism    just because they removed it.

Once I see the final boss's health down to a sliver, barely even there?

SWITCHING TO BARE FISTS. LETS DO THIS.
