Is anyone planning on getting the 600 page guide book? I'm somewhat torn, I think it would be cool to have but don't want to end up accidently spoiling myself.

From the outset of the game I shall have the goal of finding whoever is now weilding Umbra and reclaiming my sword. Although I hope it looks more like the Morrowind version than Oblivion.

I've thought about getting the guide book but haven't maade up my mind yet. Leaning towards it. Well now sounds like we've got the same goal in mind right from the start going after the Umbra sword.<G> Of course are we sure it will be in Skyrim? Are we even going to need souls to regenerate are weapons? I've not seen anything on this as of yet.

Soul gems have been mentioned in a few previews so far so I think weapons still require charging. I'm just assuming Umbra is in there somewhere. I will hunt throughout the lands of the north to find it.

There's something oddly alluring about tracking a magical sword across a country. It almost makes me wish to play a warrior.

With more self-deliberation, I'm leaning more towards waiting to play Skyrim until after I beat Assassin's Creed Revelations.

But gah, things could change. ERRRRGH, Y U MAKE SO MANY GOOD GAMES, DEVELOPERS!?

HNNNG.

If that is the case than I'll definatly be hunting for it as well. Was the Umbra sword in Morrowind? I've got the game but have yet to play it. So many games so little time.<LOL>

So anyone decided on what class/gender they're going to play? I might do a male Argonian or a female Nord.

I played with a rogueish (acrobat) female Dunmer (with red-hair) in both Morrowind and Oblivion and intend to do similar (though without the class)

Umbra is (arguably) the most powerful sword in the games. I'd very much like if we had to give up defense (shield) to use it.

This is why I don't deal with wizards.

I'd rather it was a one handed sword like Oblivion too. But with a look more like Morrowind's as in Oblivion it looked a bit cheap and nasty. In the end up its much more useful for its Soul Trap powers than damage dealing so I think its more balanced as a one handed weapon.

I pre-ordered it along with the game. I won't be using it the first time around though. I usually get the guide to all the games I love, but never use them until the second play through.

Druss99 I don't really like wizards either prefer to sneak attack them with a bow to be honest with you.<LOL>

As for Umbra from Morrowind and the one in Oblivon I can't compare the 2 in regards to looks as I've only used the one in Oblivion. But the one in Oblivon don't look to bad. But if they do change it I hope its only in looks and not the fact that its one handed.

In Oblivion, Duskfang/Dawnfang is the best sword by far. Umbra has no damage enchantment.

Umbra is (arguably) the most powerful sword in the games. I'd very much like if we had to give up defense (shield) to use it.

Daedric dai-katana, Goldbrand, Chrysamere and Ice Blade of the Monarch are all better. Then in Tribunal, there's Trueflame and Hopesfire.

That might be true there as for the damage aspect of the weapon. But Umbra is the only Soul Steal one.

It might be nice to have for the artwork but I have no desire to know every secret they found in the game.  I'm not even going to look at online hints when trying to figure something out or even simply building my character.

I was initially disatisfied with the Oblivion version's appearance...(didn't look sufficiently "hot" but instead like an average teenage girl (with blue/green skin and red eyes) but in time came to accept it was just what she looked like...(and she looked far more innocent :innocent:than she was...)
Hoping the Skyrim version will look "hotter" though....
(I've got a thing about female dark elves...Pirotess<3, Arshes Nei.<3<3...)

Trueflame was the coolest sword in any Elder Scrolls game, and acquiring it after a long quest felt very rewarding.

Thats the problem I'm having. It looks like something I'd like to have but I fear actually reading it.

Druss thats the reason for which I'm debating on getting it I'm afraid I'll want to read it through and it's nothing but Spoilers.

Dhiro- Was going to say the same thing as you but you beat me to it. Like the flaming sword though it's cool. Hope we have stuff like that there in Skyrim.

Get Magna Carter- Will have to admit that I have a thing for female elves as well. Of course played one DA don't know why I didn't in Oblivion went with the male Dunmar instead.

I may get it down the line, but an Elder Scrolls game should be experienced without knowing what's coming up in my opinion. It's just much more satisfying that way if you ask me.

That said I do plan on playing through Skyrim with 2 or 3 characters (unlike Oblivion where I only really did one epic playthrough, had a few Morrowind characters though) so I may get it once I have been through a lot of the content once with my first character, just to make sure I haven't missed anything AMAZING.

I want to play the game first without a guide. If it's as good as I hope, I might buy a guide. I have done for a few other games even though you can just look it up online. Some guides just arrange it a little better. Others contain lots of useless information (complete inventory of trash vendors 1 through 347, a character creation guide tellling you you might want to invest in strength for your warrior).

If I hadn't read a lot about Morrowind, I would have just killed the talking mudcarb... mudcrab merchant. Maybe I wouldn't have known about the Boots of Blinding Speed. Stuff like that. Made the second playthrough very fun.
