I want to play the game first without a guide. If it's as good as I hope, I might buy a guide. I have done for a few other games even though you can just look it up online. Some guides just arrange it a little better. Others contain lots of useless information (complete inventory of trash vendors 1 through 347, a character creation guide tellling you you might want to invest in strength for your warrior).
If I hadn't read a lot about Morrowind, I would have just killed the talking mudcarb... mudcrab merchant. Maybe I wouldn't have known about the Boots of Blinding Speed. Stuff like that. Made the second playthrough very fun.
Well now there's a talking mudcrab in Morrowwind?! I am so going to have to play that one there sounds pretty interesting if you ask me. I hope I didn't make a mistake playing Oblivion first. I bought Oblivion and after I played it for a while found Morrowind and purchased it. And I've got Skyrim to pick up in just under a month. Well got my gaming covered for a while, especially if Morrowind and Skyrim is as big as or bigger than Oblivion.

I hope you're referring to the 2012 Mayan end-of-the-world and not some late-stage cancer you have lol.

Would be facing the same dilemma except I finish Uni at the end of November so given that they'll both be out by then, I'll get and finish Revelations and then move onto devoting large sections of my life to Skyrim haha.LPPrince wrote...
With more self-deliberation, I'm leaning more towards waiting to play Skyrim until after I beat Assassin's Creed Revelations.
But gah, things could change. ERRRRGH, Y U MAKE SO MANY GOOD GAMES, DEVELOPERS!?

Magic looks a lot cooler thks time around so I think I'll pick that over bows.
I'm currently playing oblivion and I use the Bow and stealth quite a bit works out great. Was thinking of going the same way in Skyrim but after seeing that you can dual wield and wiled and cast at the same time that is looking like a promsing way to play. Currently use only Restoration spells and Destruction spells.
Have you seen these bound weapons? They even added a quiver with arrows! As someone asked on skyrim reddit, damage is based on conjuration skill or marksman skill?

I'm going bow/stealth path again like I did in oblivion
Will have to admit this is the way for which I'm leaning as well it seems to be working good so far in Oblivion. I'm wondering whose in the 9 hells idea was it to have 60 Oblivion Gates?! Wouldn't 30 have sufficed? At the rate the gate closing is going and my goal to close them all the first time through I'll be still closing gates when Skyrim comes out.
Catt128 are you sure thats a Bound Bow? Will it use any arrows?

Are you just closing them all for completionist's sake? Because you certainly don't have to close them all to finish the main quest. I thought the trips to Oblivion were some of the weakest area's of the game and they quickly got monotonous for me.
I assume a bound bow would use its own magical arrows, you can see a quiver full of them in the pic.
Edit: Also some new footage. Its quite brief and hidden amongst older stuff, if you turn annotations on then it points them out. A new dragon fight, Steam Centurian and a skeleton can all be seen...

Of course I'm closing them all for completionists sake. After all with this being my first time through I'd like to be able to say I did everything there is to do in the game including personally closing all 60 gates. Just like I deactivated all 22 Obelisk in SI. The only thing that I've not done is stolen a horse. But will have to admit I just might steal one because it's there.
You could be right in regards to the bound bow. But since I've never used boud weapons wasn't sure how it worked. And besides I believe that they are just temporary aren't they?
Will check out your link thanks for sharing it with the rest of us folks.

I couldn't motivate myself to close 1 Oblivion gate. So if you're doing everything in the game are you a vampire right now?
This.
I think I closed 2 non-optional Oblivion Gates before going "**** this ****" and giving up of the main quest.

This again. The Oblivion Gates were so unoriginal, but partly because they all belonged to Mehrunes Dagon. I would love to go to other princes' realms of Oblivion.Dhiro wrote...

There is a description of the realm of Azura in one of the books, I think. It's supposed to be a beautiful place, full of peace and tranquility, with a Rose Castle.

It looks like a normal mudcrab just sitting on some little island in the middle of nowhere. There's no way of knowing it's not a normal mudcrab unless you walk all the way up to it and "use" it. I thought it was a joke at first. It isn't. It's actually the richest merchant in the game and a very good place to unload your stuff at a high price. It's also drunk, and I'm not sure why.
The other merchant you need to know is the friendly scamp in Caldera.

Interesting question. If its actually summoned using a spell, it could be either way, really. The weapon power and governing statistical ability could be controlled by Conjuration skill with bonuses in archery skill. However, if its conjured from a rune stone of sorts, it'll probably have defined stats and abilities locked in.
Curious about this, too. Either way, its sweet.

No I am not a vampire nor did I desire to become one. Having to go around biting necks to feed to stay alive just isn't something that interested me to be honest with you there. As far as the gates go I've got about a dozen of them closed so far. And with all the Misc. andf faction quest compled as well as for the SI and KofN DLC's out of the way I figured I might as well close the gates out as well and make it really complete. Besides we've still got just under a month before Skyrim comes out so it's not like I'm in any hurry to finish the game.

Hehe
I tried being a vampire when Oblivion first came out and ended in disaster to say the least and lacked the vital element of fun. I might try again in Skyrim depending on how vampirism functions this time. Though I would much rather terrorize as werewolf. /prays for a return of lycanthropy.

You are in for a treat. Fallout 3 was great, but it's with the ES games that Beth really shine (in my opinion of course). This is one of those cases where the 'say goodbye to your social life' saying is actually likely to be true, ES games are made with an incredibly addictive recipe.
Edit: Reading the thread I'll add my voice to those annoyed at the Oblivion gates. I've always thought it would have worked so much better if they had opened up the story somewhat to allow the gates to take you to several different planes of Oblivion. That would have added variety and allowed some really off the wall challenges to be added to those sections of the game. It would have also meant cutting down on the number of gates, but I think most people would actually be happy with that.
The main story gates could have been primarily Dagon's, but it could have easily been re-written to be a larger scale invasion (or even just have gates opening regardless of the Daedra Lord's intention, what with the barrier between worlds becoming weaker throughout the game).
