Well! That seems like it might not be the whole truth :police:

Would you play the PC version with an xbox controller?

Eh, probably not to be honest.

Or simply don't play on the high or ultra settings. Skyrim will run fine on average settings with a 5450.

Well see I have Oblivion and it's on the low-to-average settings. Won't Skyrim be more intensive?

See I'm worried, because I have a radeon 5450. I just got Oblivion for PC (discovered TES on Xbox by pure chance, do all my real gaming on PC, so just got it) and I can't put the graphics up too too high or it gets slow on me. They SAY Radeon 4890+, but what is it really (for recommended settings)?

HD 4890 >>> HD 5450

HD 5450 is a low-mid end card.

HD 4890, although it uses the older chipset, is still a middle-high end card.

So I need to get myself a high-end card? Shoot.

Not necessarily.

I think the recommended specs are only for if you want to run high settings. Afterall, I was able to run Fallout 3 with high settings on a slightly weaker HD 4870.

A mid-range card should do fine and they're pretty cheap - about the same as 2 full-priced console games.

Not too sure bout that.

I remember reading somewhere that Bethesda said that the Xbox 360 was the platform of choice for Skyrim, and so PC users should check their specs against that to get a good indication of the minimum requirements.

The Xbox 360 GPU has similar performance to a Radeon X1950.

According to this chart, the HD 5450 falls well below that level.

Interesting and large preview I saw linked to The Elder Scrolls' Facebook page.

17 MORE DAYS

Neat.

But...   from the link:

Onward to Whiterun With no shortcuts in evidence, I had no choice but to hot-foot it down the valley to the next, rather larger settlement, the suspiciously Rohan-ish tiered township of Whiterun. Here lies the ancestral seat of the Companions, shield-brothers and shield-sisters who fight for coin, I was informed by a gaggle of NPCs after they'd finished lecturing me because I hadn't helped them slay some stupid Giant.

I only hissed in reply, and would have axed the pack of them there and then, but a nearby guard had received word of Riverwood's devastation and landed a pre-emptive strike.

^weren't we told this wouldn't happen?  That guards in the next town wouldn't have ESP?

I had heard that to, and while I'm not 100% sure, I thought I heard word it wasn't town by town per se but by region. Riverwood isn't a major city and I think is nearby Whiterun...thus probably in the same region. Could be mistaken, though, but I honestly think I heard that is how it was.

If it ends up guards to have esp all over, its disappointing a fallacy was pushed

Elder Scrolls = Caviar in RPG
flawless??certainly not
but less flawed than any other
Played all the titles from Arena to Daggerfall , when the main competitor Origin was around with the Ultima Series
to Morrowind and Oblivion ...doubt that Skyrim will be below very good .

BW is awesome , but TES is god in RPG Terms

I know this isn't a WILL MY PC RUN SKYRIM thread, but what do you guys think about a Radeon 6870? I'm waiting for one I ordered a few days ago.

What's the monitor resolution?

Also, your power supply model would be nice to make sure that it runs properly

In all likelihood, it'll be okay up to and including, 1080p resolution at high if not max settings. But we won't know for sure.

1400x900.

About my power supply, I haven't cheked it yet :/ I know I need a 500W one for the GPU to work but I don't have the tools to open the CPU myself. I was thinking about bringing it to the tech - I need to check some things up, anyway - and having him give it a look.

You will get excellent frame rates on Ultra, most likely, unless there is some crazy setting we don't know about like Ubersampling. At least a mix of high/ultra settings.

Ah, good to know, thanks! :D

So, looks like opening a CPU is ridiculously easy. I have a 250W power supply, so I'll guess I'll have to change it. I hope it isn't too expensive, computer things usually cost a lot in my country.

Oh my goodness - you are supposed to use a minimum 500W PSU with the 6870. I don't know if you might be damaging the graphics card, but perhaps you should not turn on your computer again until you replace the PSU.

EDIT: Oh, I see you are waiting for one that you ordered and have not installed it yet.

If you're not really sure about what you're doing inside your pc, then it might be a good idea to get the psu replaced by a tech rather than trying to do it yourself.  The psu isn't as easy to replace as a gpu or the ram, and can cause all sorts of problems if it's not done properly.

And yes, if you only have a 250w psu you will need to buy a new one to run the HD6870.

Cheers

Ah, I wasn't saying I was going to replace the PSU, I simply wanted to see how many watts it had. I was under the impression that I needed some special tool to do that, but it seems I was wrong.

Good to hear, I was just making sure that you were aware that it's a bit tricky.  Afterall, you wouldn't have been the first person to think "how hard can that be?" and then fry your motherboard.

And frying your motherboard two weeks before Skyrim is released would be bad!Image IPB

Yes frying your mobo 2 weeks before skyrim would be a bad thing. As for the power supply replaying it is a cake walk you just have to make sure you plug the right cables in the right places. I know I've built plenty of computers.

That's  my current video card.   I'm expecting to be able to play Skyrim  on High settings with it, if not the very highest.

Edit:  and a PSU discussion.  yeah.  You're gonna need  to replace your 250 watt PSU, and I'd suggest you not gimp on  that when you do.  Buy a good, named PSU,  a 650 watt if your case can hold one.

I facepalmed at various parts of their discussion. But then I laughed and agreed with much of what was said at the end. So, it's not bad overall.

Decent summary, even if it doesn't say anything new or particularly insightful.

Pity I won't get the game on release, exams and all that. But it'll make a nice gift for just after my exams.

:)

I hope Bethesda put in a "I want to be a dragon" dialogue option somewhere. Preferable with Alduin in the end.

Damn, that's somewhat saddening. I agree the armorer system could use some tweaking, but on its own weapon degradation wasn't a terrible concept; they just needed to give high-leveled magic items/artifacts the ability to avoid it, since, you know, they're magic...

I'm glad they removed armor/weapon degrading. It was more of a trivial nuisance than meaningful. Spamming hammers is never fun.
