when you got to master and were carrying one hammer the weapon may as well not degrade as you constantly repaired it anyway.

The total HDD space relates more to the compression optimizations we’re able to do with The Creation Engine. Not only are do we think you’ll be impressed with how the game looks, but also how much faster it runs..

According to Todd Howard:
Noticed several comments about the game size. New engine and we’re much better at compression on all things from art to voice to world data. It’s huge yet more optimized than we’ve had before.

Hopefully this means that I will get a higher frame rate with my laptop than I did with Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3.

So why can Bethesda do it but other games can't, for instance the Total War games which require 15-20GBs, even Shogun 2 Total War.
Who knows, maybe John Carmack helped them?

The internet is not complaining that Skyrim is only 6GB when DA2 was only 7GB? I'm shocked. Shocked, I tell you.
This shocks me.
I don't know much about compooters, but doesn't compression make how many GB a video game uses an unreliable indicator of the amount of content?

I'm probably coming across harsher than I intend to, if they can deliver high res DX11 graphics with only 6GB thats fantastic.
Skyrim will make use of DX11 optimization features, but not the DX11 eye candy features, such as tessellation, etc.
Who knows, perhaps there might be some sort of patch in the future but at least at release date there will be no tessellation.

What's so great about it?

I won't miss gear degrading either. I want to play the game and explore. Repair always felt like a penalty for randomly attacking things. I guess it is one less layer of "reality" but I'm ok missing that particular one.
Yeah, I am not a fan of equipment degradation at all myself. Though there's a couple games where it didn't really bother me because the rate was either slow or it only occured when you died.
Oblivion though.. Your equipment degraded so fast it was not fun at all.

It is. I've seen at least two "SKYRIM WILL SUCK BECAUSE IT IS ONLY 6GB" threads in a span of twenty minutes.

Yeah, I think the only big differences Bethesda has mentioned visually for PC is better textures and that sort of thing, but nothing that extensive. Thats disappointing, but if Skyrim is as friendly to mod as Oblivion, I'm sure there will be tons of graphics mods to make it look nicer.

I expected more.
Interesting. Since this is my first TES game, I can't complain. I can only play it and decide then if it needed more or could've done with even less.

It would actually make sense for the dragons to be Jills, but Kirkbride himself stated elsewhere that they aren't.
That's what I'm talking about. Jills are Akatosh's minute-menders.

I'm glad its gone too. The only thing it really added for me was forcing me to carry a ridiculous number of hammers until I leveled it up enough...

Lol when its put that way it sounds like some Monty Phython crap.

Oh well, since I'm not buying it on release, I can afford to wait a week or two and see the feedback.
Must be some hell of a compression technique, though I think it's mostly audio compression.
