NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M/460M would most likely offer similar performance. GT 445M and GT 555M would be a bit slower, but have DX11 support.
How about on the AMD side?
5850m/5870m?

It's stupid, but the promotion is only for the Console releases.

I just want fun combat and character creation and ability progression. It doesn't look like the game will disappoint much in these regards.
My plan:
Wait for Pre-Install
Wait for 11.11.11 midnight (I live on east coast time)
???
Spend hours on creating the "perfect" character
My plan is similar to this one.
Wait for midnight release
Pick up my CE
Install
Spend hours creating my character. (Who will probably end up being an elven assassin, like all of my other characters.)
Skip work the next day and continue to play Skyrim until March... Beat ME3 once... Continue with Skyrim.

I've chatted with a couple of people who are in the same position as you. That is to say, despite the agonizing and self-imposed wait, they're holding off on the game until other, "more important" obligations in their life are completed.Nameless one7 wrote...
Anyhow, back on topic of skyrim, I'm not playing skyrim until the semester is over with because I know I'll flunk my classes if I play it before that. Anyone else holding off on skyrim?
And honestly, I have real respect for people like that. I have no idea if I'd be strong enough to do the same were I in their shoes. I had no such dilemmas back when I was in college, as Arena wasn't nearly as hyped or anticipated back then as Skyrim is today.

I'm not sure what will happen during that week Skyrim is released, but if I ever will need to hold it off for studies, I will suck it up and get it done. It will be tough. Also, Arena wasn't highly anticipated but what about Daggerfall? I heard Arena had a strong following in some time after its release.Yrkoon wrote...

On a related note, if we break into this guy's house and steal his Skyrim, will the guards come after us, yelling "STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM" ?? Because that would be cool. lol

So Journalists are getting finished copies of the game now? That means the printing/shipping process is already well underway. Meaning they've decided to bypass the whole gold-announcement cerimonial BS.

No, I think they'll just lock you up and you won't be able to play Skyrim.
Very sad.

Will have to admit that I'm envious that he's got the game already but is he able to play it? After all thought it wouldn't be unlocked til 11/11/11 @ midnight?
Also I gather that the Shouts work by absorbing the souls of a dragon. But does anyone know if you can only use a shout one time per dragon soul? Or how is that going to workout?

I was thinking about our dragon buddy we can call in for a powerful shout power, which is basically a very high level, same dimension 'Summon' / Conjuration. I think, or at least hope, that one of the balances with that is that it can die, and is gone the rest of the game. Maybe something has already been mentioned about it, but I didn't see it.
I think we are getting treated to a decent amount of new stuff from Bethesda now...more than I expected to be honest, and its fun.
I can't wait to go dungeon crawling for loot and to just explore.

He got the game so he can do a review, so I assume that he'll be able to play, yes.
About the shout, once you unlock a word you can use that word many times you want. When the cooldown is over, of course.

No, absorbing the dragon souls gives you a new shout. Apparently there's 3 levels per shout and and to get the two other levels you have to find writings that contain the extra words.
There's an achievement for learning 20 shouts and an achievement for getting one to level 3.
