Is it true that Skyrim will have romances?

yes

:o

It kind of depends on how you define romance, I think.  You can do quests to get someone to like you, then you can marry them... but I don't believe these are romances in the sense we're used to from a BioWare game.

AFAIC, there aren't romances in Skyrim, just accessory people.  YMMV!  :):):)

And, of course, we'll have mods for that with custom love interests. They'll all suck hard, until eventually someone make one that's okay.

EDIT:

Sorry if someone posted it already, but a video with Skyrim's intro leaked:

Spoilers, obviously. I'd like to remember you all that this is the ALPHA BUILD with the lowest graphic settings.

I think it'll be about time to engage Spoiler Avoidance protocols.

Yeah, I watched the intro... eh, even if thats the Alpha build, they likely didn't change the voice acting, which was pretty damn dreadful in the intro there. It just sounds so matter of fact and like they're bored. It just doesn't flow very well But its par for the course with Bethesda I guess.

I hope thats the lowest graphics settings too, cause while it looked ok art wise, the people in the square weren't really casting any shadows or anything. And the animations looked Gamebryo-esque janky. I guess I'm just spoiled with Battlefield 3's smooth animations.

It doesn't look bad, but it really just seems like Oblivion with a nicer coat of paint- which isn't a bad thing, but I was expecting a bit more. The way they integrated character creation into the intro was pretty cool though.

Some things, like the textures and animations, bothered me, but it is alpha build, so...

All in all, I really liked the intro. I won't enter in details, because of the spoilers, but I'm even more excited for the game.

All I want from Skyrim is a unique and atmospheric game world, with lots of interesting lore. Basically, what was lost after Morrowind with the ultra-generic Oblivion.

One thing I can say is that, while watching the video, I really felt this overwhelming sense of sadness and desperation, like everything was lost. I really liked it, because it fits the theme of the game, I think.

Oblivion had plenty of good lore, but thats opinion I guess, and if you hated Oblivion (Which I loved while hating Morrowind for its crappy interface) then I'm not sure if you'll like Skyrim, given its mechanics have more in line with Oblivion, but more stream lined.

Not sure if there is prostitution, although I see no reason why it isn't a possibility. Fallout 3 had one at least in Megaton, although it was a light touch and I believe its confirmed there will be, as I believe Naughty put it, no specific bow-chica-bow-wow cutscenes.

Very true!  Given how great characters can look in Skyrim, I think we're going the subtitle's subtitle is going to be "Rise Of the Companion."

The mods in general for this game are going to be amazing.  And the inevitable animated sex mods are going to corrupt a whole new generation of gamers.

I'd find it kinda silly if there weren't. For a world to be fully fleshed out, there has to be the grimy underbelly of society there.

Don't take much stock in that leaked intro, it was obviously being played on the easiest setting since the character's health bar hardly ever moved while being hit.

Did you see him try to use the bow on that bear, oh my sides :D

Never forget the bad-written mods that will make the fan-favorite characters romanceable and contradict their estabilished personalities in one go.

I love it all.

As long as there isn't a robot telling us to, "Assume the position!", I think we will all come out mentally unscathed :kissing:

THIS is excellent.  Thanks for the share.   And yes, it would make a great theme.

Bethesda moved extremely fast to clampdown on the videos...I cannot find them anywhere now.

Anyone know a source?

It was my impression that the game mechanics were redesigned, but it's always hard to know exactly how things like scaling will work until you get your hands on the game. The mechanics were just messed up in Oblivion. Even Oblivion fans know there's something wrong. Ask one and you'll get a huge list of mods that you MUST HAVE in order to tolerate the game.

The scaling was the biggest problem for me. I want to become more powerful when I level up, not the opposite. That wasn't the case in Oblivion, and if they keep those awful gameplay mechanics in Skyrim, they basically ruined it for me. It's not that I want less challenge when I level up, by the way. It's just stupid that you have to seriously plan your leveling to even keep up with common robbers asking for small change.

Oh god, that's bad.... What is the intro about? I realise that it contains spoliers so could you possibly message me?

PM'd you. Please remember it's in the lowest graphic settings and it's an Alpha Build. The final game probably looks better, especially on a PC.

Actully I have no clue what you mean on either of those, one I'm one of those "Dirtty Console players" as some would say. And two I specialized my character down a very narrow path and as I leveled up I never ran into any major problems, In fact I tended to kill most things in 5 hits or less. So I don't know what you mean in that reguards at all.

As to that I ment the leveling and stat mechanics, the leveling has changed, but the number of items you need to stat have been reduced from Oblivion which in turn was reduced from MW.
