PC players would probably be better off waiting for a few mods and player made patches to be out before getting it.

Fan patches take a long time and major mods are usually in development for at least a few years.  Won't take long for nudity to appear though! ;)

Nude mods are the way the Internet found to say "It's good stuff, go play it."

I have to ask- How do you PC players do it? You know, game. With all the upgrading, checking for specs, having to remove things from the game to run it if your comp is underpowered, etc etc. And for positives, creating mods, adding patches, etc etc.

Well step one would be to not have or be a giant blubbering vagina.

Co-signed for truth.
All that "effort" seems better than getting a vanilla experience from a peasant console.

Well its better than being a stuck up snob and the leading market of electronic piracy.
And ****ing bull **** on a PC being cheaper than a console.

PC is PS2 now?

Dude you're so tough, you can like install video games on your computer, wow, you're way tougher than that other guy.

Hey, wasn't the one asserting it was actually difficult.

He was not the one asserting it was difficult.  Apparently the upgrades and installs are just too hardcore for some people, even if it means a richer gaming experience.

I like how my genuine sincerity garnered such negative responses back and forth between people.

I'll keep my opinions to myself, in that case.

I wouldn't categorize my response as negative.  I'd categorize it as bemused flippancy.

ffs, can’t there be one game thread where elitism and douchebaggary are non-existent? I want to read about Skyrim, not about who has the biggest virtual dick. One…Two….Three…Skyrim! Go!

Well, the bottom line is that it's not that difficult if you don't care about running games at highest resolution and all the bells and whistles.  No more difficult or expensive than a console.  I mean, you would do minimal upkeep on a PC and its drivers anyway, so that's all there is to it.  The only game that we even gave a thought to recently was Witcher 2, and I just turned the settings down to medium, which was still beautiful.  I expect I'll do the same for Skyrim.

Interesting to note Skyrim has reached 1.5 million pre-orders (excluding Steam / digital downloads)

I just read yesterday that the Skyrim pre-order is  the 2nd biggest selling game on Steam for the past week, even beating pre-orders for MW3.

I saw on Bethsoft that this compares to 600,000 1st-month sales for Fallout 3 and 500,000 for Oblivion.

I bought ours on Steam, and I bet a lot of PC players are doing the same since you need Steamworks anyway.  Still waiting for the pre-download info.

Looking at the list of supposed preorders, I like how high Skyrim is, especially since I can say I'm one of those 360 guys. Pretty cool. Don't know if the numbers are accurate or not, but its cool just to see that sort of thing.

I imagine PC preorders are higher or at least close to as high. Wish we had numbers on that, or grand total preorder numbers.

See, this is the kind of response I was hoping for. Not a PC/Console War. Just someone saying something like, "Oh, its not that hard. You just have to do this and this." or "Well, its a little tough. But hey, the payout is you get an amazing looking and performing game."

Actually, one of the things I like about Steamworks games is that you really don't need to buy them directly from Steam, since it will end up in your Steam library anyway. So you can shop around a bit to try and get a better price and know that it'll still end up in Steam no matter what.

I'm holding out a while longer to see if Amazon puts it on preorder for their digital downloads. They've been pushing that a lot with newer games recently and usually taking off about $10 or so on the PC digital copies.

Bah! PC gaming now has nothing on DOS gaming back in the day, tweaking autoexec.bat to free up memory, creating different start up batch files..............

I have actually started hating steam lately, and all games that force you to have it. Installing shogun 2 was a nightmare because of steam.

Does Skyrim really require it?

Not to mention steam messed with my oblivion mods.

In truth, they'll have the best experience, but I'm not about to game on PC's.

Last PC game I played was Age of Mythology(God, that game was so fun). Twas a birthday present from Dad.

I have to ask- How do you PC players do it? You know, game. With all the upgrading, checking for specs, having to remove things from the game to run it if your comp is underpowered, etc etc. And for positives, creating mods, adding patches, etc etc.

Complicated stuff with its positives and negatives. I commend those of you who dedicate the time, money, and effort to get the best experience possible out of it.

Me? I'll just game on my 360 with simplicity and use my MacBook Pro to do my business on the web and such.

I didn't get into PC games until this past year. and I bought a brand new Alienware M17x R3 for the express purpose of playing games.  I also researched and also from what I've seen so far, I can run games released this year or last year in high settings that look shinier and smoother with my laptop's specs when compared to on a console.

Most of the PC games I have are PC exclusive.  The games also released for console I tend to buy on console.

But next year, I won't be home starting in March and the only thing I feel comfortable bringing with me is my laptop.  So, that's why I'll have Skyrim and Saints Row for PC instead of on Xbox 360.  Well, Skyrim I was going to get on PC anyway after my horrible experience with Oblivion and finding out there were all these PC mods that would have made the game more enjoyable for me.

Just to clarify, console graphics are good enough for me and I don't notice much difference other than some smoother textures and shinier stuff.  It's nice to look at, but not required as far as I am concerned.  I also don't notice a different in FPS between PC and console and don't understand how people are able to tell.

Yeah, I've heard over the years about how buggy Bethesda's games are on release, and how hard the PC community works to fix these things.

But seeing as I'm on 360, I'll have to count on Bethesda to patch things. Hopefully they do a good job.

I remember when I got Fable III on release, it had its issues. The levels were so big that there was lag even while simply moving, and its a single player game. It also took a second or two to load up everything even after the gameplay portions started.

But, Lionhead patched it and suddenly these issues ceased to exist. Made Fable III better, and I can still enjoy it if I went back and played it again(which I won't since there's a ton of new games coming out).

If Bethesda can iron out some of the bigger issues, I'm okay with it.

I stopped playing before any patches.

What problems? I had no problems installing a disc version and yes Skyrim will be the same as Shogun 2.

I have capped internet where I live. When installing shogun 2, it would stop installing near the end and begin downloading the rest of the game. Same thing happened with civilization.

As more and more games seem to rely on steam, that is less and less I get to play. I end up having to download the game to my laptop, then copy and paste it to my desktop. From there I still have to download extra files from which can't be directly copied.

Then add on the problems with mods and steam.

OK yes I remember having to download a large chunk of the game. It sounds like this is the norm for steamworks gamesunfortunately.

Which negates the point of having a disc in the first place.

I haven't seen any discounts, though haven't been shopping too hard tbh.  We have FNV on Steam and it's run so well I don't want to go to a different digital platform.  My only quibble was whether or not to get a disc.
