PC players would probably be better off waiting for a few mods and player made patches to be out before getting it.

Fan patches take a long time and major mods are usually in development for at least a few years.  Won't take long for nudity to appear though! ;)

In truth, they'll have the best experience, but I'm not about to game on PC's.

Last PC game I played was Age of Mythology(God, that game was so fun). Twas a birthday present from Dad.

I have to ask- How do you PC players do it? You know, game. With all the upgrading, checking for specs, having to remove things from the game to run it if your comp is underpowered, etc etc. And for positives, creating mods, adding patches, etc etc.

Complicated stuff with its positives and negatives. I commend those of you who dedicate the time, money, and effort to get the best experience possible out of it.

Me? I'll just game on my 360 with simplicity and use my MacBook Pro to do my business on the web and such.

It's not that complex.

Well step one would be to not have or be a giant blubbering vagina.

Dude you're so tough, you can like install video games on your computer, wow, you're way tougher than that other guy.

He was not the one asserting it was difficult.  Apparently the upgrades and installs are just too hardcore for some people, even if it means a richer gaming experience.

People don't want to put the effort into learning if it's 'useless' for them. They call that procrastination, I call that lazyness.

'I don't want to do that because I don't have to = Lazyness
' I don't want to do that because I don't want thing to go boom = Insecurity and fear.

Nothing is really difficult to do in life . It's only require willpower and most people don't have it.

I'm just citing data from the thread in Skyrim forums but if they are true the final sales numbers will be staggering. And that's just the numbers for US.

"Skyrim America pre-order.

Xbox 360: 966,417.

PS3: 350,613.

PC: 183,265. (no digital pre-orders)

Total: 1,500,295."

There is a God, and I just stared at his face.

Okay, WHAT. Maybe I just have a massive misunderstanding of PC sales in general, but shouldn't the PC number be higher?

It's not counting the digital pre-orders, remember?

I wouldn't be particulary surprised if the numbers were smaller even with the digital pre-orders included, though.

With no digital sales AND only counting pre-orders I don't see how it could be much higher. Digital distribution is big on PC and pre-orders aren't that common, I've never had to pre-order anything for PC since I could get it day one at a store.

Eh. I just figured that since this game is very popular on PC that it'd have higher sales than on consoles.

Guess I'll find out more after release. Not that its important, all I really care about is how my personal experience with the game is. Still, figured its good to know.

It may sound like it with all the PC elitists, but...

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a bigger fan base that plays on either console.  Apparently lots of people love Morrowind and that was released on the Xbox.  Take that for what you will.

Nor do i know if that's certain, but it's my opinion.

I haven't seen any discounts, though haven't been shopping too hard tbh.  We have FNV on Steam and it's run so well I don't want to go to a different digital platform.  My only quibble was whether or not to get a disc.

Same here.  But I have tried looking for deals, but I did see any when I was looking and no use brooding over temporary deals that are already over.

I decided a disc isn't needed since manuals for games are now pretty much non-existant and since it's a steamworks game, the disc will be obsolete unless I need to install it again.

Then there's the possibility of installing it before you can actually play the game and getting to play before even those who go out for a midnight release.  Also, no shipping wait or fees.  All of a sudden, digital download sounds very compelling.

Is that an actual Oblivion mod?  Maybe I should get Oblivion on my PC after all.  I alwasy considered it since there's mods that will allow me to actually have fun with the game.

Eh, I based that thought not solely because of the elitists, but mainly because of the modders.

If there is a bigger console fanbase for TES, then wow. I need to reevaluate how I look at this franchise.

God, I can't wait to play this game.

Bah! PC gaming now has nothing on DOS gaming back in the day, tweaking autoexec.bat to free up memory, creating different start up batch files..............

Boot disks?
Games that come on 7-12 floppies?
Having to select your sound card from a list at install?
Expansion packs that add voiceover and nothing else?
Taking up the family phone line if you're playing online?

I handled that all stuff when I was a ten year old.  Yeah, it's not really difficult.

There are some mods for Fallout/Oblivion that are a slight annoyance to install, but there are also third party mod management programs that act as launchers to make it even easier.

I remember when PC games were on floppies. Back then I was little and played dinosaur games, hah.

God forbid a game like Skyrim be on floppies.

According to a recent study published by NVIDIA, PC digital downloads vastly outsell PC packaged retail discs, projected by as much as a 6 to 1 ratio during 2011.

If we conservatively estimate the Steam sales are at least equal to if not higher than the packaged retail discs, then the PC version of Skyrim has clearly been outselling the PS3 version.

The only bugs I personally experienced/noticed in Oblivion were three crashes and a twice saw a horse outside of the Imperial City near the house you could buy near the Waterfront be up in the air and tilted a little. That was it for me, in 350 hours of gameplay.

That's a crash every 116.6 hours of gameplay and a bug noticed every 70 hours of gameplay, both on average.

No biggie for me. Given the scope, I can deal with that for Skyrim.

Less bugs the better, of course...let's hope Bethesda is aggressive and quick with patches.

I've seen a couple deals on Newegg mostly bringing it down to about $50.

But thats the thing with Steamworks, it doesn't matter if you buy retail or "buy" it digitally from Amazon or somebody, since all they'd be doing is giving you the key to download it from Steam anyway. So you can get all the benefits of Steam without needing to buy it directly from Steam.

I'm just debating whether I want the physical copy with the map or not.

That's why I'm not downloading it from Steam...I preordered a physical copy. I want to physically hold this game :)

Interesting to note Skyrim has reached 1.5 million pre-orders (excluding Steam / digital downloads)

I just read yesterday that the Skyrim pre-order is  the 2nd biggest selling game on Steam for the past week, even beating pre-orders for MW3.

I saw on Bethsoft that this compares to 600,000 1st-month sales for Fallout 3 and 500,000 for Oblivion.

I bought ours on Steam, and I bet a lot of PC players are doing the same since you need Steamworks anyway.  Still waiting for the pre-download info.

Looking at the list of supposed preorders, I like how high Skyrim is, especially since I can say I'm one of those 360 guys. Pretty cool. Don't know if the numbers are accurate or not, but its cool just to see that sort of thing.

I imagine PC preorders are higher or at least close to as high. Wish we had numbers on that, or grand total preorder numbers.

The number of pre-orders does not necessarily correlate in a predictable way to total sales following release; however, it seems clear that Skyrim will be quite successful.

As of the week before street date, Fallout New Vegas had 885,291 pre-orders in US/Canada (excluding PC digital downloads). It eventually sold 5.4 million units worldwide (excluding PC digital downloads).

http://www.vgchartz....lout-new-vegas/

http://www.vgchartz....s=50&sort=Total

To give another example, RAGE had approximately 300,000 pre-orders (excluding PC digital downloads) as of the week before launch and it seems likely to sell at least around 3 million units or so excluding downloads.

I've pre-ordered the disc version or $42 Australian, it comes from the UK I think. Pre-ordering on Steam is $90 for Australians. Stupid regional pricing.
