It wasn't a server thing like you had, the game would literally install from disc just fine until near the end... then it would download about a gig of data it just convieniently can't get from the disc. It wasn't a patch, (speaking of which I hate steams auto updates, wish it would ask instead of jumping to it, I have to individually select each game in a hidden menu and choose not to update, and even then I can't download the update on an individual basis outside of steam) it was just a huge chunk of the game that apparently wasn't on the disc, for both civilization and shogun 2. If worse comes to worse, I will buy the game legally, then acquire the game by a different means so I don't have to deal with the hassle.

Steam is just absolutely full of annoying quirks like that, among the worse being that incredibly terrible and useless backup feature.

Don't get me wrong, I love steam when it gets it right, but not all of steam's changes to the industry are good. I fear the day everything goes completely digital. So many things can go wrong.

At the very least they could keep disc games, you know... on the disc.

Something very different then, it sounds more like the sort of thing that devs do in a feeble attempt to stop piracy.
I don't think Bethesda will do that, well they didn't with the last game I bought from them anyway.  Admitedly it was Fallout New Vegas and that was 12 months ago, so they might have changed their policy since then but I still have hope that they won't try to shaft us that way.  And now I'm rambling, sorry.

The name "Bard's College" picked my interest. If only they were Dragon Age!Bards. I loved the idea of the mini-game, though, I hope there are more things like this in Skyrim.

I can rest easy now that I paid the game off. Now the waiting game truly commences.

I hope so too, i'll just wait a few days after release then ask you guys about installation. If there is no hassle with steam, i'll jump right on it.

I can't see mods coming my way onto the 360.

EDIT-

Unless you count John Epler, who's on my friend's list. But I mean mods, not like here mods. lololololol

If Bethesda can work out some type of deal to get mods to the Xbox 360 Microsoft will have moved into the upper echelons of awesome for allowing mods.

Well, last news was that Bethesda have been trying to come up with a solution between both Sony and Microsoft to get mods created through the tools they will be releasing on the consoles. I don't think anything made outside of that would be possible.

Here's a couple articles:
http://www.escapistm...ods-on-Consoles
http://www.next-gen....-reach-consoles

They both say basically the same thing.

I don't see it happening, not without console users paying for mods.

Suppoedly the major concern is not about money, but the concern of mods possibly messing up people's saves. And I'm sure Bethesda wouldn't agree to those terms.

Anyway, don't shoot the messenger, I just thought I'd shed light on the subject.

Doesn't seem like it would be worth it. I can easily imagine Microsoft and Sony having a restrictive policy about acceptable content and modding in general.

And I don't know about Sony(haven't owned a Sony console since the PS2) but Microsoft would most definitely charge us for mods.

Hell, it costs 10 bucks just to change your gamertag.

10 bucks just to change you're gamer tag?! I don't think it's all that hard of a thing to do that they would need to charge you $10 bucks just to do that there. Getting as bad as Bank of America wanting to charge customers $5 just to use their debit cards. Glad I never got into the console games.

Doesn't matter, if it makes them money it makes them money.

I imagine there will be Skyrim avatar items and such. Guess what? To get those, we'll have to pay for them too.

Hopefully though there will be avatar awards that we'll unlock while playing the game. Those are free.

I don't believe I have ever seen an Oblivion character mod that I like.

No.

That there is a perfect example of why I hate Oblivion character mods.

It's funny. I went to play Oblivion again fairly recently and immediately went looking for character mods to help with the (now very pronounced) dodgy stock character models and such. Unfortunately the modding scene is so full of stuff like the above that actually finding anything that actually fits the theme and style of the game seems surprisingly difficult.

All the hair packs (which get huge props almost everywhere), for example, are full of typically Japanese inspired or Nu-Goth/emo inspired straightened hair that if anything looks sillier than the vanilla examples.

You can find some decent enough character body mods, but even the ones that offer normal proportioned bodies only offers them as an option alongside Varric-style exaggerations of women (or worse come to that). Hell even the men aren't safe in such mods.

There are some good armor mods out there, but that's obviously a little different.

I suppose it's nice that people who like this sort of thing have all these options available to them, but it's still a shame there isn't any real variety available. At least Skyrim looks to have much better vanilla options than previous games.

Most of the character mods transform everyone in some feminine-looking-japanese-elf-sephiroth. I blame the katanas.

And yet, I can't find even one decent mod with gothic clothes or amors. Sad Dhiro is sad.

Nice pics.

Rumor has it that the XBOX360 version of the game leaked. Poor Pete Hines :(
