There goes any notion of upgrading my PC. Seriously considering hitting Tiger Direct and building a new one.

You've seen the system requirements for Skyrim though, right? They're not anything too crazy really. If you're playing The Witcher 2 or Battlefield 3 ok, I don't think Skyrim is going to be overly taxing.

I've come to the realization that I'm a graphics wh*re.

Yeah.....the very first thing I'll do when Skyrim loads is go straight to the graphic settings and crank everything to ultra (or whatever term they'll use to describe the best visual quality).

On the other hand, perhaps Valve never did that simply because no publisher had asked them before. Maybe they want to make a big deal out of 11-11-11 worldwide or something.

So there is still a possibility of dozens of different unlock times, but worst case scenario for me would be 12:01am PST and best case scenario would be 9:01pm PST.

Good points my personal experience with Steam is that unlocks go by PST and for me that usually means late afternoon on release day by Atlantic Standard Time.

I will attempt the same, but I'm guessing I will have to dial down anti-aliasing, perhaps also the water settings.

I hope to be able to max out most of the other settings, such as draw distance, object fade, shadow quality and anisotropic filtering, however.

(playing on a laptop with AMD 5830m, i7-820QM and 1920x1080 display)

One of my favorite real life things are creeks. Knowing that creeks are in the game, I can't wait to check these out on my 360.

Yes, absolutely. However, watch out because the current can carry you away and you might end up in a totally different part of Skyrim.

I understand it's also a good way to dispose of dead bodies. :P

Hah, that's how some creeks work in real life. :P

I remember me and my dad having to friggen hold on to each other for stability to cross a very strong creek once.

Crazy stuff, but it was fun. That and it was such a beautiful place to be. A waterfall and natural pool of water, then a road, and across that road a creek and a mountain. Forests all around.

Such a beautiful place. I always hope for games to give me something as beautiful as that. They can never reach that sense of real life beauty, but its nice to know the in game stuff mimics it in a natural way.

I just saw the world's worst players playing the recently leaked Skyrim. It was painful watching them, it was epic fail on a whole new level.

"Epic fail" you say? Are there videos of said failures.

It was a live stream that was taken down as I watched it. :pinched:

These guys were fighting vampires in the most inefficient way imaginable. They died literally 15 times because they never used the perk he had to make what he was using stronger. He used a giant battle ax or flame spells, and kept using his perks for one handed stuff. He also kept panicking and trying to kill the vampires with a healing spell. He had poisons, but never used them right. He also said the game sucked because he couldn't figure out how to kill these boss level vampires.

*shakes head*

Wow, they sound like they suck bigtime. They obviously think its an action game and have zero idea what they are doing. Attacking with a healing spell???? Hahahaha!!! I don't mean to belittle, its just friggin hilarious. It was probably very easy, although who knows, maybe they were 5 or more levels above him, but even then you can usually handle one of those with focus and plentiful potions if you choose to carry a decent amount in Inventory.

After what you described, the game should have locked down on him and begin a self-destruct sequence. Hilarious! He'd get annihilated completely by a dragon.

Speaking of dying a lot...

What difficulty setting will everyone start with? I'm going to stick with default for awhile while getting a feel for the gameplay.

Well, since the achievements mentioning nothing about a difficulty setting, likely the easiest.

If that's too easy, then I'll switch to normal. If that's still too easy, whatever's harder than that.

Depends where I'm comfortable.

I usually crank everything down to very easy, but since playing New Vegas on medium I want to try Skyrim on medium too.

I'm going to start on Very Hard.

If vanilla Oblivion, Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas are any indication, Very Hard will be the most fun setting.

I might start with hard, as that forces me to put on my thinking cap from the get go.

This is my first TES so I guess going on Super Duper Easy isn't SO bad an idea

I'm going to leave the difficulty slider on default. Might try a mod my second playthrough that adds difficulty and requires real sleep.

How's New Vegas treating you, Chunky? I'm loving Fallout 3 but I won't get done with everything I want before Skyrim. I just did this super funny and unexpected side quest involving two arch-enemies....the AntAgonizer and the Machinist.

New Vegas is awesome! I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying it. The NCR missions are very entertaining, and I recently discovered (well, actually kidnapped by :P) the Brotherhood of Steel, who have some sweet gear I want to steal.

I don't think New Vegas is as good as Skyrim will be though. Judging from what I've seen so far, I think Bethesda has made the best RPG to date. I sooooo want November 11 to be here already. I've been planning my Argonian jack-of-all-trades named Noro Fareen for months now.

If it's your first TES game, then you are both fortunate and unfortunate; unfortunate because you can't appreciate the progress Bethesda has made, but fortunate because you didn't have to play the chaos that was Oblivion and Morrowind.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Elder Scrolls games, but they are not unlike grapefruit: you have to eat a ****load of it before the overwhelming bitterness begins to fade and you can appreciate the subtle sweetness behind it.

I never adjusted the difficulty slider in any elder scrolls game, so I'm not sure. I will put it on very hard and see how things go, I am assuming the game won't automatically make everything in the game level 100, just a little bit challenging, like insanity, right?

I don't know what the difficulty slider does. But my first character in Oblivion, I had to move the setting all the way down to the easiest because even on normal, at the level I had got to, enemies killed me in one to two hits.

I'm trying to apply some oblivion mods, but I can't figure out what I need to get one of them to work?

All I've got work is a body mesh mod.

What about companions? Is there anything like them being immortal on easier modes but mortal on harder modes?

I usually start out on default and gradually raise it as I start to feel more badass.
