What about companions? Is there anything like them being immortal on easier modes but mortal on harder modes?

It was stated on a preview that companions are immortal in Skyrim - they only get knocked down, like in Dragon Age or Mass Effect. If they get mortal in harder modes, I wouldn't know.

I don't think Skyrim has a hardcore mode unfortunately.  But i'm no expert.  I'm sure Naughty would know though.

Btw, here's a little hands on for you guys/gals www.ripten.com/2011/10/29/three-hours-with-skyrim-two-brave-bosmers-and-one-lying-khajiit/

In that case, I shall have lulz sending them into impossible scenarios, or using them as a distraction to run by someone.

Or maybe I'll be nice and have a companion that my character marries and have them come along. You know, since they don't die.

I'd go as far as assuming that once you marry someone and they turn into companions, they'll also gain the immortal status. But that's just me.

That is kinda lame (about them not being able to be killed)

Can mods fix that ?

Companions are NOT immortal in skyrim. One guy, in One review noted that his one companion  (Sven?) never seemed to die. But there's like, 10 other reviews that report that their companions got wiped out.

I don't remember if there was perma-death in FO3, but it was in FO:NV on Hardcore. Even though the latter game was handled by Obsidian, maybe Bethesda is doing the same thing in Skyrim with permanent companion deaths on the highest difficulty level.

So yeah noob here, what's the best human race. Does picking any race matter or is the interaction during the game the same no matter what (basically did it matter in oblivion)? Thanks.

I'm new, and it just depends on playstyle, even then it doesn't matter so much.

Like Imperials. They'll be the guys who get more money and can convince others to do what they want, while Bretons are good at magic, Nords are huge dudes that are powerful, and Redguards are natural athletes.

Maybe it depends on difficulty? Or twas a glitch. Who knows.

I just saw the world's worst players playing the recently leaked Skyrim. It was painful watching them, it was epic fail on a whole new level.

"Epic fail" you say? Are there videos of said failures.

It was a live stream that was taken down as I watched it. :pinched:

These guys were fighting vampires in the most inefficient way imaginable. They died literally 15 times because they never used the perk he had to make what he was using stronger. He used a giant battle ax or flame spells, and kept using his perks for one handed stuff. He also kept panicking and trying to kill the vampires with a healing spell. He had poisons, but never used them right. He also said the game sucked because he couldn't figure out how to kill these boss level vampires.

*shakes head*

Wow, they sound like they suck bigtime. They obviously think its an action game and have zero idea what they are doing.

Attacking with a healing spell???? Hahahaha!!! I don't mean to belittle, its just friggin hilarious.

Hmm... maybe they did have some cRPG background... attacking vampires with healing sense makes perfect sense in DnD ruleset.... Of course this won't work everywhere, I guess. And Skyrim isn't based on DnD.

Healing spells and potions also work against undead in games like Final Fantasy. I can see why someone would make that mistake.

Eh. I'd rather start a huge fire than cast a healing spell. Ah well.

There goes any notion of upgrading my PC. Seriously considering hitting Tiger Direct and building a new one.

You've seen the system requirements for Skyrim though, right? They're not anything too crazy really. If you're playing The Witcher 2 or Battlefield 3 ok, I don't think Skyrim is going to be overly taxing.

I've come to the realization that I'm a graphics wh*re.

So your playing Witcher 2 maxed out? If you are what are you worried about? Ubersampling can cripples everything! I think it's time I upgraded. I wanted to upgrade after Battlefield 3 and before Skyrim wouldn't hurt to have a PC powerful enough for The Old Republic also. Them cities can slow down anyone.

Speaking of dying a lot...

What difficulty setting will everyone start with? I'm going to stick with default for awhile while getting a feel for the gameplay.

I play most games on hard or above. But I don't think it will make too much difference in Skyrim other than giving enemies higher HP. If it was like Halo and actually changed their behaviour then I'd be more inclined to play it on hard. I think default will do it for me, unless theres an acheivement for doing it on hard which I don't think there is.

Well, the logic behind it is that the Undead are weak against positive, healing energy (kinda "holy"... and the undead are supposed to fear the divine), but absorb (get healed by) negative energy (harmful to the living).

I guess that's similar to using holy water to fight the undead....

Slimgrin- Tigerdirect is a great place to shop when you're in the market for computer hardware. After all I've been buying my components from them for years. Great all around experience every time I've done business with them.

LPPrince- Gamestop is having a midnight release and I'll be there to pick up the game. As for your 42" Hd I'll see you and raise you as I'll be playing the game on a 47" hd screen.<G>

Chnunky you would think that after the first couple of times that he died he would have changed his tactics and tried other methods. Not so much the game that sucked but his tactics in general.

Nope. I'm playing TW2 at 1280x720, and with most of the eye candy turned off. It's the only way I can get 30-40 fps. I only have an ATI 4670 and a quad core 2.33 GHZ. The most optimized games I currently own imo are Hard Reset and SSF4. Can't max them out either.
