I can feel the cold biting my face, the crusty snow collapsing beneath each step. I plan to climb every mountain and tunnel through every cave, wade through cold streams, kill dear and cook their meat, battle trolls, take down dragons and steal their souls, banter with the locals, chop wood, write poetry, buy a house and stock my own library, hoard everything that glitters or shines, buy the best swords and watch my enemies blood etch a crimson patina on the blade, get married to a buxom blonde Nord who can cook me mud crab stew and Troll loaf. It will be glorious.

Just reviewed a pretty good list of all the perk trees here:

helpful for planning your character build.

What perks do you want to get?

Awesome, let's see...

Two-Handed = All, but Limbsplitter and Skullcrusher
Heavy Armor = Fists of Steel
Smithing = All but Arcane Smithing (Not sure how useful magic equipment is going be or if I will want to wear or improve any of it

That's all that I absolutely want.

Well, if there's an achievement for making serious amounts of trouble in every town...

Yes but causing serious amounts of trouble doesn't mean killing everyone in town. Besides aren't the achievements just for the console games and not the Pc? If that is the case than us pc users don't have achievements.

Well, since the game in Steamworks and Steam supposed achievements... Why wouldn't they have achievements for PC users?

Also, developers could put in achievement stuff like Bioware did for Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.

I see them as a goal, a challenge to overcome, something to keep me playing a game even after I've beat it once.

Achievements in Skyrim? Seems pointless in a game that's a role-playing sandbox...

Am I the only person who is disappointed with the perk tree for light armour?  :?

It practically forces you to wear full set all the time to get any bonus.  I was looking forward to adding some clothing items in like I did in Oblivion

Anyway minor niggle.  Only a week to go!!!  :o :D

yeah the perks for light armor and illusion seemed a bit underwhelming compared to the others.

Why is everyone listing seven skills? I thought the whole major/minor shabang was gone? Am I wrong or is it just a convention?

Aaanyway, major skills or no major skills, for my first character I'm thinking

One-Handed
Block
Heavy Armor
Destruction
Restoration
Speech
Alteration or Archery. Dunmer Spellswords FTW.

That's actually why I'm curious how this is going to be balanced. With no major/minor skills and with everything starting at novice, barring racial bonuses, how will Bethesda prevent players from simply becoming masters of everything? It's my one huge worry.

each new level after the first takes longer and longer to reach, until eventually you reach the theoretical max character level around 70-80.

As for the skills, of course you can max every single skill, just as you could with Oblivion and MOrrowind. skill leveling also slows down to some extent the higher your reach.

the game pace and the world seems to be designed for characters from level 1 - 50. probably most people who are just playing naturally will not ever reach max level.

So you pick the perks you want in the order you want. and there are something like 280 perks to choose from.

And there are some additional perk like abilities you get from quests.

Anyone pick out any definite names? I am thinking of naming my female Nord, Arnleif. Due to this:

This name is found in
Landnámabók for Arnleif, daughter of Þórðr gellir ("yeller, screamer")

I thought the screamer refernece would be appropriate for dragon shouts. That is if I even make a nord. I am torn between a Nord, Breton or Imperial. With only a week away, I better get crackin’.

It's not just light armor, the same goes for Heavy.  Though doesn't the first one apply to any pieces?

Anyway, you're right, it sucks.   It could be worse though, it could be that all of the armor you have equipped also belongs to the same set.

I wonder when reviews will be released next week? I'm guessing the average score will 9.0. Not that it's important. :D

Bad news, guys! Skyrim has been canceled.

Some place along the line, Todd Howard hired a fully grown panda bear to help program the game. I guess the panda spent most of his time eating office supplies and pooping in warm spots through out the building. That includes the warm confines of the server cabinets. I guess they started duplicating the game and found nothing beyond the alpha code actually worked. So Skyrim is being canceled for now, to be release sometime in 2016 as the first game set in Akavir... The Elder Scrolls: Hai'Fu'Lui.

This post is extremely serious.

Anybody else watch the sound design developer diary?

I really want to try to enable the japanese, french and italian language options via Steam just for kicks.

Has anyone done this before? Is it possible to switch back and forth easily or do you have to reinstall the game each time?

The japanese version of the bard singing in the tavern was pretty cool.

Isn't illusion the one with the silent spellcasting perk? That's pretty handy.
