I absolutely loathed them. I really do hope they don't make a "triumphant" return in Skyrim.

Pretty sure its been shown in some of the videos, but lockpicking is now almost exactly as it is in Fallout 3.

I've never played fallout 3, so.... is that a good thing?

how, exactly does one pick a lock in FO3?

I appears Fallout 3 lockpicking functions like in New Vegas, in which you test the lock by putting the lockpick in different areas until you hit a "sweet spot" and you can twist the lock open. It is an infinitely funner, less frustrating system than Oblivion's lockpicking.

This.  My first is a Argonian and unless something pops up that makes me want to change that I see no reason to end that tradition now.

Well now from what I see of the racial perks I'm considering either Dunmer, Bosmer, or Nord for my first play through. In my Oblivion play through I played a Dunmer heavy armor, bow, stealth and destruction magic.

You see I was thinking of dual wielding this time either weapons or weapon spell as the spells look so much cooler this time around. Looks like it will take some serious decision making this time through with all the choices for which they've give us. At least we don't have to stick within the races perks. I know I'll be trying out different things through out my first play through to see what works best.

Heck might even run through with a female my first time through.

Do Nords make good battlemages? I might consider playing as a female Nord on my first run, if I decide to not play as an Argonian.

To be honest not sure was thinking of running maybe a Redguard battlemage. I did notice that there are more perk bonuses for light armor than there are for heavy armor.  I tend to go with the better armor in the game. Of course one thing for which I don't care for in the game is that the greaves and the cuirass are one piece.

It's either bad or a really good thing that Dark Elves get 0, I mean absolutely 0, skill bonuses that I intend to use.  Even my other race of choice, Redguard only gets Smithing that I was going to use.  I really can't wait now.

I'll be visiting my mom next week and after I get back home, I'll have Skyrim hopefully downloaded and ready to play.

This weekend can't end soon enough, it's really going to suck because all I will be thinking about during drill is Skyrim and spending time with my mother.

Lock picks are back, but they are different from Oblivion.  Apparently it uses real world lock picks where you use one to press down the button and then another one to turn the lock to unlock the door.

The racial powers and bonuses only really make a difference at the earlier levels when you are just starting out.

Personally I find it a lot more fun to choose the race based primarily on the appearance and the history of that race's culture.

Naw.....didn't you use the skeleton key?  The god mode of lockpicking, lol.  (I seriously hope the skeleton key does not return).  I can't stand Oblivion's system now because it made playing a thief pointless.  I found no sense of accomplishment knowing any character build can open very hard locks without raising lockpicking.

I'm playing a Nord battlemage first off, at least Nord will be good with weapons (in my case I plan to specialise in axes). Once you level up and get some perks in the magic skills Nords should be fine.

As Brock said its like Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas.

Don't think it will but there's a perk essentially replacing it.

RPGamer- I do use sneak and some destruction magic like Enemies explode and Finger of the Mtn spells in oblivion. What kind of drill are we talking here for the military?

Naughty I fully agree and I'm the same way as you are I usually go by the history of the race as the culture.

Ehrich- After I had gotten the Skeleton key in Oblivion and used it a couple of times I will have to agree with you that thieving just didn't seem as fulfing to me either. As I tend to play assain thief type characters.

request denied- that is true there but the only thing is I'm not a real spell user to be honest with you.<G>

In Oblivion I rarely used magic, except for healing, and I was a battlemage! But my birthsign was The Atronach so I didn't really want to use a lot of magic. >.>

@ Redneck1st I wasn`t much of a magic user either until Oblivion , i always saw it as an easy way thru ( not being a warrior ) but i fell in love the magic and can`t go back :)

Normally my "spellsword" would be similar to a Paladin with healing spells but this time I'm thinking about going with destruction paired with one handed swords.

Is it possible to make a white Redguard? I'm not a racist just wanted to create the Monk-like character from Diablo III... And Redguard seem most appropriate as a race for him.I want to make him as a one-handed axe wielder with skills in alteration, restoration and illusion...If not I'll just go with Breton or a Nord.

In Oblivion like I said did use some destruction magic but it was mainly restoration as far as spells went. Might be different in Skyrim though but we'll have to wait and see.
