Missing the point.

Its not a point of it selling well so much as a point you won't see a god damn mass exodus from society over it. Some of you on here are talking like it will be a break from life and society, Guess what even if it sells 5 million plus beating COD, your not that important, the world will go on without you.

As to "Holidays" It was to prove a point people care more about instant gratification than any meaningful or important issues. an Ateriod could be about to hit the Earth on the 15th and some people would STILL go

M<Y GAWD SKYRIM =D

EDIT

Not that I hate the game or wish to see it do poorly, so much as I am wishing people would calm the **** down over it. Because come the 12 you'll have some people so built up over it who will be raging as it didn't meet the title of "Best Game Ever" and no one needs that.

I fully see you're point on this here. And as for me on Veterans day I'll be visiting Arlington Cemetary which is where my 19 yr old son is buried who I lost during the Afghan war as well as for my Brother in Law who was killed in Iraq. So believe me that day has special meaning to me. I'm old enough to know that life goes on with or without me in it. I also know that the game will be here waiting for me whenever I want to play it. After all I've got to work and pay my bills. Damn it why couldn't I have been born rich. Image IPB

Well to be honest it's not like can reach up push the asteriod away so might aswell play a game in meantime.

ROTFLMAO! That is true there and what the heck if you're going to go you might as well go out doing something fun.

@Ken

Just seems to me your the one taking it far too seriously. It's a game, a good game one that vast amount of people are excited about including myself. There is zero reason to rain on their/my parade especially given not everyone on here has that holiday or special day in our respective countries during that period.

For those who treasure and wish to take part in that holiday you have over there, I am sure they will do so with intent and action. For those of us who are not part of your holiday event and have no such holiday then, we don't need to know the details of it. Let people be excited about the game they are looking forward too.

See thats what I'm saying, some people are acting like they'll die if they don't have the game soon, some actully might go into shock I expect, its like that one couple a few pages back that almost dropped the kid out on the game room floor just to see a a little video about the game.

Thats like me fighting bears for a ham sandwhich, And I'm  what some people would call insane, and I'ld go "**** you bears, I'm gonna go buy a sammich!"

And yes be nice if we all were but not happening lol.

As to the last part I might would laugh at it if it weren't true.

Skyrim sounds great and well honestly the only RPG I can think of that did better in sells up till that point was FF7, but still its not good to be hyped on a game, or it never will be what you want.

Its like Homefront, that game made all sorts of hype and spins, and it turned out to be alot of suck. So I'm really wanting to play Skyrim, but I'm keeping a "Meh" mind set with it. So if I get it and seen the much talked about AI is just typical I won't be on here come the 12th or 11th going

I work within a school system that happens to have that day off for Veteran’s Day, however we were suppose to come in half a day for paperwork. I took a personal day. I am going to midnight release--which could take a few hours and no way am I going to come home and go straight to bed and once I start playing, there is no way I can play just for an hour or so. Better to take the next day off.

Ken- I fully understand what you are saying and I fell the same way as you about the game to be honest with you there. Especially with all the hype that was given to DA2 it was suppose to have blown DAO out of the water. H*** there wasn't even much of a story line and a small amount of areas for which were reused for most of the quests. They were calling for it to be GOTY and all this till we finally got it and started playing it and found out how bad it was.

No I won't be making any comments about Skyrim one way or another till I've had a chance to put quite a few hours of game play into it. I'm expecting bug and/or glitches as thats typical not only with games but with software programs in general. I just hope that they aren't game breaking ones.

I take it that you live in the states as well? As for me I'm in the state of Md. Now since the game is released on a Fri. you could still go and make it in on Monday to pull your 1/2 day of paperwork detail. After all you'll get the game Thurs @ midnight and have to Monday morning or whatever time on Monday you've got to go in and pull your 1/2 day. I know I'm such a wet blanker aren't I? Image IPB

Grrr how dare you bring up FF7! :crying:

Thats a sore subject for me because I'm still waiting on the dam remake in PS3/PS4 level of quality graphics and such.

Agreed, sddly that will only happen once an FF game is made that totally falls on its face and they are in a bad need for money. Which sucks when they had no problem making part 2's for FF13, FF10.

lol  Yes, I live in Virginia. We don’t get Monday off, just Friday. (The school district, that is) So, I still have to go in to work on Monday. I do plan to bring the paper work home with me and work on it after work on Thursday until I have to go to Gamestop--which I plan to get there around 9pm. I wish I could take a whole week off, but with Christmas coming I can’t afford to. I don’t think giving everyone a card inscribed with “Thank you for forgoing a gift. Your sacrifice allowed me to play Skyrim one week straight. Merry Christmas!” would work out too well.Image IPB

Yes it has Very high preorders and will undoubtablly sell well, but its no Call of Duty, where you'll have litterally 10's of millions of sells and likely people getting out of work etc..

Pretty damn close to it, actually.  COD: Black Ops  (the biggest seller of that franchise) 'only' sold 7 million on release day.  And that was fueled by about 2.5 million in pre-orders.  Skyrim's got 1.5 million pre-orders, or just over 1/3rd less.  if the trend holds, we could be looking at about 5 million in sales for Skyrim on day one.  That many sales inevidably means we're going to see quite a few absenses from school/work on day one.  The fact that release day happens  to  also be Friday is probably going to be a factor in that too.

Sure, there will probably be no  mass exodus.  But then, COD has never caused one of those either.

I can say, with confidence, however, that I sure won't be going to work on friday.  I've had near perfect attendance this year.  I've yet to use any of my sick days.    Time to cash in!

When you say "mass exodus", Ken, I'm thinking of the time Halo 2 was released and people were actually camping outside of game stores just to secure a copy of it (their loss - that game sucked IMHO). Or that time when the PS3 was first released and people were actually being killed in stampedes or robbed out in the parking lots when they came out with one.

But I don't think either Skyrim or Call of Duty 12... err, I mean MW3 will stir such chaos - and the nation will not soon forget the honored fallen, least of all over a videogame.

EDIT: Yow, I just fixed a horrible typo where I forgot to put "not" after "will" - an embarrassing mistake, indeed.

Aww yes my neighbor state to the south which I've been considering moving to as the taxes and tolls are getting out rageous here in Md. Image IPB Well at least you've got things worked out to where you can get it done. I was planning on going about 9pm as well because with what I've heard my local game stop has about 1k pre-orders just at the one store. At least I can grab mine and go as it's already paid for.  Your right I don't think a Christmas card like that there would work at all. Are you a Teacher?

As for Skyrim going gold Hot Damn we now know that the disks are finally being pressed in time for Next Friday or for some of us Thursday @ midnight.

Just wondering but do Americans have parades on the 11th? Or do they wait until the nearest Sunday like the UK?

Going at 9 won't do you alot of good if they don't start selling until midnight.

I usually go after 11 some time as once the doors open then the queue moves fairly quickly. Except at the Halo: Reach launch when the tils wouldn't come online and I was very tempted to start punching people in the queue who were really getting on my last nerve.

You might be right there as I've never been to a midnight release for a game I don't know how things work for them. I just might in fact wait until 11 before I leave I'll still get there about 11:30 or so plenty of time to pick up the game get home and install it.

On the 11th correct? Why do that when I can have it 11 hours earlier and have game time in long before that there?Image IPB

Question for someone who is hopefully relatively unbiased.

My situation, I've got A LOT, of games backlogged in need of play. And Skyrim looks good but I don't know if I want to drop 60$ I don't really have on it, so I'm thinking I wait for a pricedrop on steam and purchase.

Do you think this is advisable, like how long does it take a game like this to hit 50% off mark, I know Steam has had games for 30% off months after release but I am uncertain.
