That's pretty awesome, and something I've never heard of before (not that complex, at least).
This game sounds more and more like it'll be a ground-breaker, and it'll set a high standard for future RPGs for sure.

probably, but at least they won't be like...
"You found something in a random chest"
....5 hours later...
"Some random person in the street gives you money. Congratulations, quest completed."

Man that video shows how bethesda has improved animations nicely. Still far behind most games of course, but for a TES game its just incredible.
I like that in the animation podcast they addressed a problem that games with long development cycles have. You start out your game with the industry's benchmark in mind, buy by the time your game ships smaller games may have already surpassed that older benchmark. It is becoming harder for games to have really long development cycles due to the acceleration of technical progress.
Skyrim is still leading when it comes to the sheer amount of high quality content it can deliver, that is in itself to be inspired by. I don't think anyone else can compete except Bioware & Rockstar.

Er what? skyrim's animations are still not up to par to games that have been out before oblivion! If they considered skyrims animations the benchmark when it was first being developed, I think they missed the mark a tad.

Yes the animations are very below par, but not for the industry's RPGs.

Which wasn't what I said. Skyrim is great, never questioned that, but it has to be said that skyrim does fall behind in certain aspects, which they can improve in the next game, which they will still be behind in some aspect which they will improve rinse and repeat.

Precisely. The sheer amount of time and work needed to craft a game of this magnitude makes it difficult to keep
everything "up to date", so it's not too unreasonable to find a few aspects of the game that are a bit "behind the times."

Which the main point of my first post starting these shenanigans was to point how how much the animations themselves have improved. (although certain motions still annoy the hell out of me)

They did a version of this in TES II: Daggerfall. They're merely bringing it forward into a modern incarnation of a TES game.
I read on some forum that someone claimed Bethesda took it from RDR -- I had to roll my eyes.

LOL. Besides the animations, the review from that Australian gaming magazine mentioned there were a number of A.I. gaffes in the game. One was that the player accidentally attacked a NPC in a town while battling a dragon - and a guard rushed over to him and got on his ass for it.
That's also pretty typical of TES games, though - but none of it destracts from the overall experience, and that's why these games always win out in the end.

Oh indeed. In fact its the little non gamebreaking bugs and glitches that can make the games sometimes.

The giant kill was brutal.
Was cool though, you hamstring him then shove the blade through his jaw and out the top of the skull. I love finishing moves just because they add that extra bit of weight to the combat, plus after you kill a person with a sharp hunk of metal you have to then get it out their body. It's only logical!
Was a tragic loss when they cut then in DA2 just because they add such an unforgiving quality to the combat.
