The level of quality sound design in a game can also contribute a lot to the satisfying feeling of melee and spell animations.

cool though, you hamstring him then shove the blade through his jaw and
out the top of the skull. I love finishing moves just because they add
that extra bit of weight to the combat, plus after you kill a person
with a sharp hunk of metal you have to then get it out their body. It's
only logical!

Was a tragic loss when they cut then in DA2 just because they add such an unforgiving quality to the combat.

Hmph... that is one thing I hated about DA2: no messy kills. I tell you, nothing got me more riled up in DA:O than a good, old-fashioned decapitation. I always shout "Yes!" Captain Falcon-style whenever I manage to get one.

Anyway, yes, some of the "messy kills" in that video were glorious. I especially love the "scissor" decapitations - so awesome.

what? DA2 was full of messy kills. Too many of them actually. That's what one of the main complaints were about. :P

Although I really do have to agree with sounds adding to animations. If a gun doesn't sound right, or if a mace doesn't have enough oomph in sound, it just doesnt feel right.

I'm loving the look of them too- I always loved the slow-mo kills in VATS in Fallout 3 and NV, so this seems like an extension of that. If only they had a VATS like combat mode in TES where you could target certain body parts...

If only we could target certain body parts in general. There was a mod for oblivion that rehauled combat to where you could do things like that.

I think VATS would be "wrong" for TES games...

but I would use it if it were there.

I know! It was a bit overpowered in Fallout but it was really cool and undeniably useful.

There are some perks and dragon shouts in Skyrim that slow time down relative to the player, not quite the same but probably very useful in setting up a really cool looking death blow animation.

What, are you talking about that lame "explosion" animation? That's just no fun - where's the decapitations and impalements? Did I mention decapitations? WHERE ARE THE DECAPITATIONS?! >:o

Also, Naughty99...The main thing I'm worried about is variety of creatures (Oblivion SUCKED at that, but was fixed thanks to the Mart's Monster Mod)...

So how many different creatures did you encounter? Did you think there were enough?

Well that's what they called them in DA:O - but I suppose you could say that about the "explosion" animation, too.

But "messy" or not, nothing beats a good ol' tainted blood fountain spewing out of a genlock's neck stump, or impaling some thug with your sword and then bashing the hell out of them with your shield. Good times.

I don't really enjoy messy kills but some times it's good way to release some steam.

Exploding bodies and missile riding and buff chicks like Meryl Silverburgh is what I live for.

Did you see any Katana's in your 30 mins of play? Thats very important to me as if that weapon is not in I'll have to look for something else. I mean seen any on NPCs, heard them mentioned, seen them in an Orc shop? Or any blades like them?

*High Five*!  I want to know about this too.  Otherwise, I guess it's all Hand To Hand combat for me.  Hopefully they've thrown in some good kicks and crap for good measure.  Though I doubt it.

How was the character creator? Was it expansive? What were the options for tats, piercings, warpaint and so on? How much of a difference did the muscle mass slider make?

There's a Muscle Mass slider?  It better be available for females.  Otherwise I guess I'll have to get my fix with Saints Row The Third.  But I don't want to have to wait that long.

KenKenpachi wrote...

Yeah I live on the East Coast, so ealier, but I'm also a 360 player with a preorder from gamestop, and I have to pick up the MGS collection as well, so its all good. Really if I didn't care so much to play those two I'ld wait till the 15th grab them, and Saints Row TT, plus HALO CE AE.

I already have Peace Walker for PSP, so I don't have much motivation to get the HD collection.  I am stuck, I can't even unlock the Monter Hunter missions! >< *cry*

I also have my weapons and stuff leveled up pretty high.  It's just the higher missions really get more difficult.  I have to complete a mission where you have to destroy a tank, but I take so much freakin' damage and I've tried everything...  It's apparently required for me to unlock the Monster Hunter missions.

You obviously haven't played it after they patched it.  They fixed it to where the exploding bodies happen VERY infrequently, so much so that it's inconsistent.  I've seen it happen maybe once since the patch and I hate it. ><

I miss the exploding bodies ><  They could have made a toggle, because that's basically what they did to patch it, changed some values around.  For a toggle, all they have to add is game text and an if > then statement...

Greengoron what end of the world dilema are you referring to now thats suppose to happen in 2012? Seems like there is always someone coming up with a new one.<LOL>

Naughty as for the console commands you'll have to figure them out cause I doubt that they will be the same as the were for oblivion.

Assassin's Creed is about the war between Templars and Assassins vying for the Holy Grail.  I was interested when I played the first game and after the second game came out when I thought that it was going to be a trilogy, not a yearly release deal.

When AC3 is announced, is when I will start going to play AC2 and after that, I am done with the series.

csfteeeer wrote...

( *Sigh* Battlefield 3's campaign is so boring, DICE why did you included?, all i wanted was the Multiplayer....)

Probably to draw in players like me, who won't play a game without a campaign.  But it's futile if the story isn't interesting.  And by interesting I mean fictitious and includes elements I find interesting and longer than about 10 hours.

It'll sell well based on name alone. And it's the only sandbox, hiking, hack and slash, marriage RPG, so it has a whole market to itself. Frankly, I'm looking forward to AC:R more.

I couldn't agree with you more on this here. What is ACR?

You are missing out RPG gamer. Brotherhood is a great little expansion to AC series, although we should probably discuss that in a proper AC thread.

Er on topic discussion now.

This.

I can't say I can think of many companies offhand who I would trust to replicate the joy that was DF:JK and JK2 though. There must be some, surely.

I heard rumblings a while back that LA are planning on another Republic Commando game, if that proves to be the case then any hope that they would bring the JK series back (what with the popularity of cinematic FPS style games at the moment) seems futile. Alas.

On topic: Whilst my copy was dispatched yesterday it is looking extremely unlikely that I will have my new PC in time to play it on Friday. Which is lame but gives me some extra time to finish up some other games before Skyrim takes over at least.

How do people prefer experiencing the game first time around? As a fearless warrior charging into new areas, or as a careful (slightly paranoid) sneaky type who takes extra time creeping through unexplored locales?  It could go either way for Mages.
