Eww, soon as put disc in got my first problem of DVD drive not reading the game.
Maybe Amazon have sold me a blank cd with skyrim logo printed on lol.
Unplugged the drive and plugged back in seemed to have solved my issue.

You've seen the combat right? I know you have mentioned you don't like twitch based combat and Elder Scrolls is real time. Reguardless this should hold you until The Old Republic.
Yep; still hate Twitch gaming, but hopefully the 3rd Person view plus temp Pause during inventory screens will allow me to handle combat about the same as the ME series.
Just holding on to hope that there will be Saved game funtionality on either side of combat; maybe auto-save before going into certain lengthy battles. I really detest having to replay an entire quest including a mini-game because nobody considered the notion that not all Players are Eye-Hand masters.
Skyrim is actually going to be used to try and improve my play for SWTOR; a game w/o Pause. Plus it will be good to switch up from Sci-Fi all the time with ME and SWTOR; miss my magic!
Questions:
* Is the longbow actually a recommended selection? Or are most going another direction due to a lack of game balance?
* How difficult is magic to use? I had considered playing a two-hand filled spell slinger; maybe a staff simply to be able to toss oppenents into walls and conjure Electrical Storms a la' Dragonslayer.
* What race is recommended for an Archer? Mage? Warrior/ Mage? That Rakshasa looking pic with the longbow appears quite deadly, but it may just be the conceptual artwork influencing my choice.
Thanks!

This is pathetic. No menu to customize controls? Al I get are stupid gamepad prompts.
According to the manual there is a menu item for customising controls though, can't test in game my copy isn't working.

Archery works out great. You have to be accurate and predict where the enemy will go though, at range. Up close, you're better off switching to a sword and shield, yet I've killed many a draugr(or whatever the hell they're called) by sticking arrows into them.
Plus, arrows are cheap and you can pick them off those you killed with them.

Name's Allie. Figured I'd keep the name instead of renaming the mare.

I play with a NumPad and remapped almost every control.
There is a menu option - press "Esc" then click on "Controls"
The only one that I noticed I cannot remap is whatever button corresponds to "Take All," which is the letter "R," so I used my Nostromo NumPad driver software to map the letter R to the NumPad on a global level.

I can't get past character creation screen. No mouse pointer appears. I try pressing X and then enter to at least select a race and move on. Pressing ESC does nothing. I can't find any manual on my Steam account either, maybe it never came with one? I'm going to plug my gamepad in and see if I can at least get into the main part of the game where ESC might work, but since its not an Xbox controller...

Bioware now has to compete with Bethesda as far as my RPG enjoyment is concerned.
Once The Witcher 2 is released on 360 I can decide if CD Projekt Red will join the two.

How do I fix the crash to desktop?
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Sound
In the Playback tab, right click on Speakers (or whatever has a green tick next to it), then click Properties
In the advanced tab on this new window, select 24 bit, 44100Hz (Studio Quality) in the drop down menu
How do I fix some sound issues, such as hearing static during NPC dialogue?
Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Sound
In the Playback tab, right click on Speakers (or whatever has a green tick next to it), then click Properties
In the advanced tab on this new window, select 24 bit, 44100Hz (Studio Quality) in the drop down menu
How do I disable the smooth mouse settings?
Go to your Steam Directory -> steamapps -> common -> skyrim -> Skyrim
Create a backup of the SkyrimPrefs.ini file
Open the file, then scroll down to where it says [Controls] and find bMouseAcceleration=1
Change to bMouseAcceleration=0
Save, exit, and play
How do I fix the vsync ("laggy mouse") problem?
Go to your Steam Directory -> steamapps -> common -> skyrim -> Skyrim
Create a backup of the SkyrimPrefs.ini file
Open the file, then scroll down to where it says [Display]
Add to the bottom of the section iPresentInterval=0
Save, exit, and play
How do I change the FOV?
Go to your My Documents -> My Games -> Skyrim -> skyrim
Create a backup of the skyrim.ini file
Open the file, then scroll down to where it says [General]
At the bottom of this section, add fdefaultfov=XX (where XX is the FOV value you want to change to)
Save, exit, and play
Although, I'm not sure the FOV fix works - you can just open up the console with the ~ key and type in "fov #" where # is whatever value you want for the FOV. By default I think its at 70 or 75- making it 80-90 makes it so much better- no more tunnel vision.
And the problem with the X & Y axis on the mouse seems to be coming from the fact that the Y axis is tied to framerate while the X axis is not.

I really have to remember to save often. I went all the way to that Keep with the bandits next to Whiterun and ended up getting killed. Reloaded autosave and I'm back at Whiterun gates
I've rarely saved. So far the game's had great autosaves, but I've never needed to reload since I have yet to die in-game.

Eh? I've run into a few creatures that kill me in 1 or 2 hits (currently level 5).

Very excited for the weekend and to properly jump in! Playing a female Nord. Faces are waaaay better than Oblivion!

That Merrill4Life review is hilarious. Deeply ironic, I assume.

Still, I'm wondering about something. Minor spoilers for a miscellaneous quest...
In that village down the mountain that you reach before setting off to the top to reach the Greybeards. Has anyone done the quest where you have to find the guy's missing sister? Her body or whatever. In any case, I've explored the cave fully that she was said to be near and no luck. Am I missing something or shouldn't I worry and just continue on?
