I am not disappointed at all. In fact, Skyrim is my GOTY by a wide margin over other games I really like too.

Same here. This is literally the most fun game I have ever played.
Playing on Master difficulty and it's really hard. I'm dying a lot. Played about 10 hours so far and beside the tutorial I've only managed to complete one very minor quest.
When I got out of the tutorial, I thought I would try to avoid Riverwood and Whiterun for a while, since we've already seen so much footage of those cities. I tried going East and I ran into an old prison in the foothills, occupied by a bandit clan. There was an aurora borealis in the sky in front of a huge full moon. After numerous reloads I managed to take out most of the bandits, and then I found one more standing guard on the wall, singing -- he was singing an entire song by himself!
The higher I climbed, I ran into some dangerous beasts, clearly too powerful for me at that level and decided to try my luck heading the other direction. Found Falkreath and picked up dozens of new quests there.
HINT: if you happen to see a Legion or Stormcloak officer's HQ anywhere with a map on a table with little flags, try clicking on the flags.
Explored a couple of dungeons, each with its own kind of detailed story going on and some puzzles. Eventually, I made it to Markarth, which is breathtaking, some really gorgeous design work went into creating that city.

At least I'm ready to jump right into the game when I get it, though - I have a basic look for the character in my mind already, and I have a name for him too.

I've tried deleting and will reinstall the game in hopes I get a version that actually works. Unless it grabs my collar and yanks me right in, I'll likely play a few hrs and then wait a couple weeks for mods to spruce up the game.

There are already few texture mods on skyrim nexus. I don't know what was wrong with your mouse issue, mine worked from the offset so I got no way to test and find out for you.

Nah 1000 gold lol. Or you can attempt stealing it, not sure how easy it is though as I've not attempted it.
damn 1000 gold
I guess I have to steal it...
I have to get a bucket and just put it on the sellers hat... :innocent:
Anyone know how horses work if you have a follower? Do they automatically get one or do they run along behind you like the kid who's parents can't afford a bike?
I managed to steal a horse from bandits in the woods, but as soon as I get of his back he runs away. probably looking for his rightful owner. And I have to steal him again
Anyone know how to convince him that Im his owner now?

I'm afraid you're out of luck. A stolen horse will never grow to love you.
Also, every time you mount it it is like commiting the crime of stealing a horse again.
As for companions, they run behind you like the kid who can't afford a bike. You can command your companion to steal things, but if you open the companion command dialog and point the cursor at a horse, all they can do is attack it.

Me too, even though I usually don't do that. But then I had to lower it to Adept for a couple Boss Type enemies, on Adept they are about as strong as normal enemies on Master. If there was a freaking Roll or evasion move, it wouldn't be so bad.
What determines regen rate? Does it go up the more HP, Stamina, and Magicka you have?
I know there are perks that increase it and armor, but I mean besides those two ways. Stamina Regen is just way too slow, if only it increased even just 50% faster it wouldn't be so bad. Running also shouldn't take as much stamina as it does.[/quote]
You should go through Riverrun and do the main quests at least until you unlock dragons. For me, that's where half the fun is going to be. Preparing to fight dragons to get their shouts.
Honestly, if it wasn't for the dragons, I don't think I would have bought the game. I'm also not much for having as much freedom and yeah, it'd be cool if you heard your character's voice. At least, the frequency when moving around should be higher. I should hear grunts with every swing, especially the heavy attacks.

No mouse pointer appears at any time. The camera doesn't respond to my mouse movement. ESC doesn't bring up the options menu. I press X in CC and then enter. Nothing happens.

Though guys, is it so that you can't block if you dual wield? Or is it that you can't just block with daggers? 'Cause I'm taking a lot of hits.

What if you kill it and raised it from dead so have undead horse zombie?

That was the first thing I tried when I got the Raise Zombie spell, but I was told "Raise Zombie" resisted. I guess I have to reach higher conjuration level.

IIRC, you can't use block if you dual-wield. Only with single weapons and/or a shield.

Wow, that blows! I'm sure they are working on another patch, hopefully it will fix your particular issue.
Could it be something to do with your mouse sensitivity setting?
I don't use a keyboard, rather I use a wireless trackball mouse and this NumPad designed for gaming that also has a little miniature joystick thing by my thumb - the UI is working very well with this.

You have stolen my thoughts on both counts. That first dragon was a right b*tch, it killed me like 5 times. Its actually the only part of the game I've been overly disapointed with, it felt kind of awkward.Captain Crash wrote...
Ok Dragons arnt at all easy. Took me four attempts but I got my first one!!
Words cant describe how awesome this game is and how much fun I am having!! Simply WOW!!
I've barely been able to put it down, I knew I had to go out earlier and figured I could squeeze in one more quest before I go. So I left Whiterun ready to set off somewhere and realised all my quests were miles away and I couldn't afford a Horse. Up yours Radiant Story!!

Positives:
Er... as unbelievable as this may sound, I've yet to encounter a single noticable bug in this game. Not one. After playing for 12 straight hours.
-The dungeons in this game are stunning. Better than the outdoor areas and towns, which have lost some of their 'wow' factor. (I'm kinda getting Sick of the snow theme)
-3rd person viewpoint Is now completely viable no matter what you're doing, including archery. In fact, it's now better than 1st person.
-Contrary to all the hype and magic-philia fanboyism which would have you believe that melee warrior builds are underpowered and that Magic rules in Skyrim, I have not noticed any such thing. I'm one-shotting most trash mobs with my 2-handed ancient nordic axe of Frost. My destruction magic, however, is not producing the same level of death-dealing, regardless of the spell, and despite fact that my destruction magic skill is a bit higher than my 2-handed weapon skill is.
-Jumping off cliffs and long staircases in 3rd person is fun as hell.
-mixing ingredients to create bizzare potions is even more fun than it sounds.
My only gripe so far: Installation was a pain. Despite the fact that I stood in line in the bitter cold for2 hours in order to get a hard copy of this game, steam still wanted to install the whole damn thing from their servers. Say what? It took me a half hour to figure out how to actually install the game from the disk.
Other strange/interesting findings:
-There's nothing wrong with the UI (I encountered no bugs with it), There is a a learning curve to it tho. But... I'm a fast learner, so whatever. I'm about to take a break from skyrim to get some sleep, and I Imagine I'll be hitting the tab button in my dreams.
-I did not enjoy the 'tutorial' section at all. it made little sense. But then again, who cares about tutorials?
-I killed a bandit on a bridge, and the force behind my swing made him fall over the rails and into the water, which swept him down stream. The physics was glorious!
-Contrary to what Todd Howard, Pete Hines, and the other Bethesda people have been saying for months, Archery does NOT do "more" damage at all, and arrows are NOT rare in the slightest. Again, I'm 12 hours in, I'm 10th level, and I have 500 arrows of differing types littering my inventory (yes, littering. they're worth zero gold to merchants.) There seems to be no end to them, because every single arrow you hit an enemy with ends up in their inventory for you to loot after you kill them.
-Loot is strictly level scaled, and I've yet to see any deviation. You'll find fur and iron gear early, then steel and studded leather after that. I've not found anything of higher calibur yet (though I have found plenty of enchanted stuff)
-apparently, you can steal in front of witnesses in Riverwood without fear of guards. (probably because Riverwood has no guards) people just yell "Thief!" and that's all.
-Inventory capacity is based on your level. You start out with 300, and by the time you're 10th level, you'll have a carry capacity of about 315. Not quite sure how the increments on that go. It's Not nearly enough however, as you'll find yourself overincombered quite often. if you're playing a warrior type.
-selling stuff to merchants randomly raises your speech skills.
-For some reason, I'm finding myself pursuing the main quest line despite my previous desire to avoid it.
-The compass itself is quite useful, the various icons that appear on it, however, are not, since there's nothing in the game or the manual that tells you what they are.
That's all for now, I should probably get some sleep, as I've been up for about 30 hours.

Wow, I thought I was the only person who felt that way, but yes, I'm finding that I'm playing in third person about 80% of the time. Melee combat, particularly dual wielding power attack animations where you spin around, looks much, much better in third person IMO.

It is going to be tremendously satisfying to be able to yell Fus Ro Dah at a person standing on a very high bridge and knock him to his doom. Works best with the full version of the shout, of course.

Were you able to get it to completely install from disc? That is the one thing preventing me from getting skyrim.
