-Contrary to all the hype and magic-philia fanboyism which would have you believe that melee warrior builds are underpowered and that Magic rules in Skyrim, I have not noticed any such thing. I'm one-shotting most trash mobs with my 2-handed ancient nordic axe of Frost. My destruction magic, however, is not producing the same level of death-dealing, regardless of the spell, and despite fact that my destruction magic skill is a bit higher than my 2-handed weapon skill is.

With my 2h sword I have impaled so many bandits and more, I'm only about 1 hour into game though 2 at most.

Alright, I'm leaving to go pick up my copy in an hour. I hope Gamestop isn't too busy, but I'll wait through hell and high water if I have to. I'm going play this game, and I'm going to savor every minute of it as if it were my last.

ONE HOUR.

:wizard:. The quest doesn't get marked as completed in your journal until your home and playing it.

Slightly odd question but does anyone know who Moira is? I seem to have upset her but don't recall meeting her anywhere.

Were you able to get it to completely install from disc? That is the one thing preventing me from getting skyrim. :(

Yes.  (except for the 17 meg patch,  and the Direct x update.  Steam wouldn't let me start my game without those) But  the Ordeal was annoying, and I wonder  how many hundreds of thousands of casual fans it's going to  scare off from playing the game.

Here's how I did it, btw, for anyone who's got the same problem:  Click here.  Follow the instructions exactly, and you're gold.

Skyrim is the first Bethesda game ever that I have played.  I'm only 7 hours into Skyrim but I have to say that I am severely disappointed.  I didn't really know what to expect, I just thought it would be sort of like Bioware games except with more things to do (eg a game with a storyline, side quests, etc).  How wrong I was.

The game is just so big that you aren't sure what to do.  I find myself wondering where to go, who to talk to when I get side quests.  For example, I went to jail and broke out, but couldn't find the chest with my stuff.  I searched all over the internet for information about where exactly this chest was (like it's EXACT location), couldn't find any.  Finally just decided to go back to jail and serve my time, and luckily my stuff appeared afterwards.  And when I think of things like alchemy, making potions and stuff, and you don't have a recipe guide.

I think the game is just too huge and too open that you end up not knowing what you should be doing.  I can't ever tell what objects I should keep, which ones I should sell off.  I don't even know if there is storage or not, where to get it.  I read you can buy a house.  Can't even find out where.  The game just expects you to find everything yourself, and I guess I just am not that kind of person.

I just am not having fun.  It's not a story about character development, about getting to know people, about learning about the universe of the game you're in.  It's a game about just doing what you want.  You play as a mute character and it just makes me feel disconnected, like the overall storyline doesn't matter.  I still have no idea what the heck the story is about the war (why they went to war, who's are war with who, etc).   There's no point, no goal, nothing to achieve.  I need to play a story and see it unfold.

I just don't the patience.  I think it's like that game Myst that I got for Christmas one year.  It's a game where you don't have goals, where they let you do whatever you want and where you have to discover everything yourself.  Didn't like it, and I've come to the conclusion that I don't like Skyrim.  Playing Skyrim just makes me even more impatient for Mass Effect 3 (and I have been so critical about it!!) and Dragon Age 3.  I need to play a character with a voice, I need to have compagnons,  I need to have goals and objectives.  Playing as just one mute character who can do whatever he wants just doesn't do it for me.:crying:

Look before you leap, I cant believe you brought a game without looking it up first, I never buy a game simply becuase other people say it's good, I've got my own opinion so I need to make my own judgement.

Anyway you're right, you're just too impatient, this is a game you need to take time with, live in another world, it's not about the developer holding your hand and telling you what to do, it's about what you want to do. Anyway imo this is the best game to have come out for a long time. Also apart from DA2 and Mass effect 1 and 2  all of Bioware's games have mute protaganists, most people feel better connected to the characer as they can imagine it's their own voice if they characters mute.

People who say that Meele is Underpowered don't know what the hell they're talking about.

i've played for over 20 hours, and in all that time, while always interchanging between magic and shield in my left hand, i NEVER abandon my Trusty sword.

My only gripe so far: Installation was a pain. Despite the fact that I stood in line in the bitter cold for2 hours in order to get a hard copy of this game, steam still wanted to install the whole damn thing from their servers. Say what? It took me a half hour to figure out how to actually install the game from the disk.

Well I found this thanks to PC Gamer. Make Skyrim install from DVD and not from stupid Steam.

LOL!  put the buckets over their heads so they can't see you steal!

That's Brilliant.  This is precisely the type of out-side-the-box thinking that my Cousin would come up with.  He's gonna love this game.  I should tell him about it ASAP.

Thanks for the install info! I might actually be able to play skyrim now. 17 megs is much easier to swallow on capped internet than five gigs.

All right, I uninstalled it, :) was getting way too addicted already, with today being a holiday and everything, I just woke up and sinked a day into it, completely forgot myself, didn't eat, just bad, really bad :/

I'll play it when I'm ready for it, in a few weeks/months that is, when my schedule's more organised ; anyway game's got great potential, I found the tutorial and default PC controls quite horrendous (I hate having a guy running around giving me orders when I want to look around, the Oblivion tutorial was a better way to get familiar with the game), but once you get to Riverwood and remap the controls then it gets really enjoyable. The follower option is a huge plus, the models and animations are nice... The main interface is a bit messy but the "favourites" one is great and very useful. Crafting's pretty fun. I like the fact that friendly NPCs let you pick up stuff in their house (yet not everything). Puzzles and traps are nice. Only the graphics hurt my eyes but that's because I have to play on low settings otherwise it's too slow. Anyway, to enjoy in moderation :)

I've rarely saved. So far the game's had great autosaves, but I've never needed to reload since I have yet to die in-game.

Attack a giant, I dare you.

I stabbed him once then got thrown a 100 feet in the air.

I just learned a few things:

In Third Person, if you hold F, you can zoom in and out by moving the mouse forwards and backwards respectively. Wish I had known this before, it makes the third person combat a lot better as the cursor actually represents where your character is looking instead of just being a general direction.

If you are in battle stance, holding F also allows you to circle around to the front of your character.

Also, Encumbrance goes up 5 points for every time you increase Stamina.

Remember folks, most likely outcome is disappointment until the mods start flowing.

Don't get too built up about the game as released.

I am not disappointed at all.  In fact, Skyrim is my GOTY by a wide margin over other games I really like too.

This, plus after sinking about 4 hours into it I can almost say now that this will be a contender for my favorite game of all time. I could be pedantic about a few things but its already apparent what a monumental achievement this game is.

Yeah apart from having occasional trouble with some options not accepting mouse clicks I don't actually mind it, once you get used to navigating it with WSAD its fine.
