I haven't played any specialists at this point, but I think a pure Stealth character stands a fair chance of doing well without magic. Warriors do seem to be out classed however, dragons just wreck me whenever I get to close. Althought that might just be my fairly squishy build.

One thing I really like is that the new system seems to allow/promote the ability of the player to diversify. It's still possible to play "pure" classes, but by removing attributes, I feel less awkward making a two-handed warrior who also tosses around restoration spells, or something similar.

But I'm also curious how a pure warrior would handle a dragon. Any input is appreciated.

Pure warrior is going to be my next run through I think. For fighting a dragon I guess it would be a matter of using the bow at a distance, failing that just pump your Health a bunch and slap on heavy armor. Shouts would have to be used a lot more to balance out your lack of magic.

They'd bring a companion along, I imagine  lol

Although to be honest, anyone can pick up a bow and use it effectively in this game if they  really have to.  Everyone also gets shouts eventually.

Also, I've killed 3 dragons so far.  And all three had wildly differing AI.  One of them  spent  his entire fight on the ground engaging me in melee.  Another never landed and I had to rely on my magic/shout/companion to bring him down.  And the  other one was the 1st (post tutorial) dragon fight   outside white run, where you get a dozen  helpers.

I haven't met a dragon yet and am kind of scared.   I'm a warrior character and getting a beatdown a lot, too.  I think it pays to stick to your weapon and armor perks early.  Those 20% damage bonuses are pretty significant, and the game guide says the power attacks are, too.  I'm using two-handed and am so looking forward to that sweep attack.  That's when I really get my rear handed to me, when I get surrounded.

Powers are very, er, powerful.  My Nord battle shout saved me from an ice wraith I couldn't beat.

Enchanting will probably come in handy eventually.  Haven't tried to do any of that yet.

I actually decided to give up the Block skill, and just use my left hand purely for spell use. I find being able to incinerate my enemies on a dime and having my weapon handy simultaneously to be a much more potent combination.

I also have some wisdom to impart to those that might not have figured it out yet: forget about Light Armor. Thanks to special perks, Heavy Armor is superior to Light in every way IMHO.

Speaking of, does anyone have a decent list of the companions in Skyrim? I've only got Lydia at the moment and was hoping for some ones with a bit more depth.

Any spell combo's like Freeze opponenets, and then Toss them against a wall?

When you say special perks, what do you mean exactly?

Yeah, my first dragon fight was kind of embarassing. I didn't really do much, just waited for my companions to wear him down, then went in for the killing blow. Not the most noble victory on my part. Image IPB

I've got the game guide and it lists all of them, but really only gives their skills and specializations.  What do you mean by "depth"?

Sorry to those who are having problems.  We have PC version through Steam and have had no major issues, except a bit of lag outdoors.  The guy at Gamestop said he's heard other PC players had that as well.

Lol, I spent my second dragon fight chasing after it as it completely ignored me and went around setting fire to wildlife. I got it close to death before it took off a final time and tried to roast a mammoth that promptly killed it. I still claimed the soul though. Used it to unlock the fire breath shout.

They're just lazy. That's the issue. Like most devs, they make the game for the funbox, and crap out the rest for PC. Then they charge full price while they're at it.

But who cares as long as the kiddies are happy?

Well, I think its more like they crap out the PC version but also crap out a toolset so that modders can fix things which should be right in the vanilla game.

I've gotten used to the UI and crappy mouse/keyboard controls, but they are terrible. But the game is still fantastic in spite of that. Got into Whiterun and did a bunch of side quests, killed my first dragon, bought a house, bought a horse and rode up to Winterhold to see what its like up there. So damn cool.

There is just something with Bethesda games when you're initially exploring everything and you have that "Oh ****!" moment when you realize how big the world is. Skyrim just seems so much bigger than Fallout 3 or Oblivion.

I was expecting at least some of them to have a bit of a story and personality behind them like Fallout did. Suppose that's probably wrong though.

My god, the music in this game is just incredible. It really breathes more life into an already lively world. I especially love the music that plays at night - so peaceful and relaxing.

Jeremy Soule is the man - easily one of the best videogame composers out there IMHO.

Agreed.  Just another point of excellence for the game.  I've got the game paused and am listening to the music through my headphones as I type and read here.

Your dog! That's pretty!

He looks like a dog but he turned out to be a servant of one of the Daedric Princes. Also, he speaks.

BTW, I think I might have found Varric in this game.

I'm 99% certain the actor who played Varric is playing the part of this NPC:

http://cloud.steampo...F19F4CFB39A39B/

His name is "Cosnach" and he's a companion I found in Markarth who decided to join me after he beat me up in a tavern brawl and I bought him some mead.

Really sounds like Varric to me.

From what I've seen, they really don't have any personality or backstory. Just a simple motivation if anything. However, there are a lot of them.

Well, Fallout 3 didn't really do much with companions. And these followers feel pretty much like that. If Skyrim had New Vegas style companions or even the ability to have a small party of companions, it would be my perfect game.

And reading back a little in this thread, I feel compelled to mention that Charles Martinet aka the voice of Mario, also did voice work for Skyrim :wizard:

My only gripe so far: I seem to be unable to use keys I steal from people to lock the front doors of their houses so they can't get back inside. Not that there'd be any real practical purpose in doing so, I suppose. I just want to lock an entire village of people out of their homes for my own amusement.

(Unless this is something I can actually do, and I'm just missing it. I can't, right?)

Either Lydia died or got lost because I can't find her. She was in the Companions stronghold when I went on a mission with Farkas and when I came back she was gone from where I left her.

Yep, same here.  I'm normally sword and board, and I have always hated magic.  But, there simply is no shield, or shield move, that can do what my left hand now does!  Now it's just fry 'em, and then finish them off with an axe (and a finishing cut scene [hopefully]).  Oh, and I've never, ever used a bow in a game, but this game is different.  My first Elk kill was nearly as exciting as the real thing!

Add things to your favorties.

Go to your favorites list, click the number you want to hotkey to the spell or item or whatever. (I know 1-8 works.)

Example:

Spell Lightning Bolt -> Add to Favorites (press F)

Open Favorites Menu with Q.

Scroll down to spell Lightning Bolt.

Press number key 1.

Lightning Bolt is now hotkeyed to the number 1 key.

It assigns spells from left to right. Press 1 once to have the spell appear in your left hand. Press it twice to have it in both hands.

Question: Are the werewolves random encounters or can you only become one by quests?

Naughty how in the world did you end up getting into a bar fight in Markath?!! I'm in that town now and was ther maybe all of a minute before I was knee deep in three quests all at once.<LOL> One envolving one of the Daedric Gods.<G> But I'll have to admit that I did find a pretty cool Bow in one of the shops it does 10 pts of fire damage and causes enemies to catch fire when they are hit.

If anyone wants to add me as a friend on Steam feel free to the handle is the same as it is here.

Dinasour Act I've yet to see Vampires or werewolves in the game.
