The Sabare Cat just down by the river SE of that camp kicked my ass so many times :(.

I got it in the end though.

I'd love to see a mod that lets you have other kinds of permanent animal companions.

@Druss99:  You were expecting plumbing?  Image IPB  Maybe in a dwarven ruin. Heh.

It's kind of mysterious how companions equip stuff. I would guess they take the highest damage item. It makes it interesting when you give them stuff to hold and they start using it. Lydia's been using a battle axe of souls and collecting souls for me. I gave her a staff and she started using that.

So you put some empty soul gems in her pocket and she is filling them up for you?

Yup.  It looks quite impressive, too.

Is there a way to get companions to use better equipment? I can get them to use better swords but thats about it so far. Aela the huntress is my current sidekick after Lydia's tree problems, I crafted her an Elven bow with electricity damage and threw her hunting bow away. But she never uses it, she keeps pulling a mystery hunting bow out of her ass. Am I doing something wrong?

I found the stray dog again so I'm up to two companions now. We are quite the team.

I think there's a limit on the quality of what they can use. At least for Armor. My Lydia won't wear anything better than Iron armor. She only uses heavy. I crafted her a whole set of Flawless Steel and she refused to wear it. But for weapon, she keeps changing arms according to the situation and she's been pretty effective, at least in drawing fire from me.

I gave her a nice Bow, an Enchanted Great Axe, an Elven Sword 1-h and a magic Staff from some harpie witch I killed after gaining the staff from her. Lydia uses all 4 weapons, depending on what she feels like using! Sometimes she even uses the 1-h sword and the staff at the same time! Amazing companion!

Hey, I have a question for anyone who's done it. Ok,There are quite a few housecarls in this game. Can you have more than one serving you at the same time?

If so, that would be hilarious. I don't think my house in Whiterun can even hold 7 Housecarls plus my wife.   I think it only has one bed.  But hey, we can try!

No but maybe some sort of privvy? I don't know, I was just wandering around Dragonreach wondering where the Jarl poops? Does he have a special corner he squats down in? I've too much free time on my hands...

I assumed it was highest damage too but sometimes Lydia would use a weaker sword until I took it off her. I felt like I was confiscating it to stop the mad b*tch putting her own eye out. She is beginning to frighten me, I found her sat in a chair staring at my bed.

I noticed Aela the Huntress has the silent roll perk and sometimes she uses a torch when its dark and we are outside.

Skyrim is AWESOME!!!! There's so many things to do and to go it's mind blowing. Out of the box and it's like the equivalent of 6 other games plus their DLCs. I have never been this absorbed in a game world.

My nord is crushing his enemies, see them driven to oblivion, and reveling in hearing the lamentations of slayed dragons. W00t!

Curious, if I side with the Empire... do I support the Thalmor? I want to side with the Empire, simply because Skyrim's seperating isn't going to help the Empire possibly standing up to the Thalmor, just worried if I'm going to be "Yay Thalmor" the entire time.

Not sure, but I was trying to see if it was possible to befriend the Thalmor. haven't figured out a way to do that yet.

I could befriend one in Makarath by breaking into someone's house and finding some evidence of illegal worshipping but I screwed them Justiciar so many times on the road that they have a contract on me. The guy in Makarath doesn't know that somehow! =)

That makes sense actually. I thought I saw Lydia using an enchanted bow I gave her but I wasn't sure. I'll make Aela an enchanted bow of lower quality then. Not sure if companions weapons require recharging though. I tried to buy/browse through the guide today in town but everywhere in the City is sold out of them. Game sold 60 in 2 days.

The ancestors smile on you, kinsman!

My plan is to marry a jarl and become Dragon Queen of the Nords in an independent Skyrim.  Don't spoiler me if my dreams are going to be crushed.  Image IPB

Absolutement! Best game in ages! 3.2 million sold in 2 days? I wish it reaches 10x that for the glory of Bethesda and to inspire other developers to go back to that devotion to their games!

Anyone noticed that the 2-handed animation reminds of Dragon Age ORIGINS!!!! No Hawke's super moves and yet, heads are falling!!!

I was traveling with Cosnach, a different companion I met in Markarth, and I noticed he would tend to favor 2 handed weapons, no matter what I gave him, although he would sometimes switch to bow. I think the NPCs have certain skill levels and prefer using weapons that are in line with their higher skills.

The entire Palace is on a giant cliff.  So I imagine he sh**ts  outside, then kicks it off the ledge and  it falls down to the river below.

That's what I do with bandits who fight me on mountain tops, at least.  Same endlessly fun concept.

By the way, maybe Dragonplate Armor won't be so hard to make.

If you want to quickly raise your Smithing, purchase Iron Ingots and Leather Strips. One of each will forge an Iron Dagger. Forge a ton of them and you'll level up your Smithing very quickly.

Both of them are pretty cheap and you can find plenty of both in the shops of blacksmiths around Skyrim. Even better, you can buy them from a blacksmith and then immediately use them at nearby forges, only to sell the daggers you made back to the blacksmith.

Costs some money, but for eventual Dragonplate Armor, why not?

I noticed this too. My blacksmithing skill is currently at 54 and it's insanely easy to level it higher. Does the rate of leveling ever really slow down? Or is it really that easy to get it to 100?

I think the way it works is like this-

Levels 20-29=3 Iron Daggers to level up
Levels 30-39=4 Iron Daggers to level up

etc etc as you go higher.

I'm currently at like 93 and I need 10 Iron Daggers to level up another time.

Has anyone been able to get their enchanting level really high? What kinds of magic effects are you able to create?

@ Naughty: Yeah I've found that Aela seems to favour bow first then sword and shield. Lydia is the other way around. While Vilkas and Farkas only use two-handed all the time. I was very surprised to see Aela doing the silent roll though, I didn't think they had actual perks.

@ Yrkoon: I was dragon shouting them off cliffs but it made looting them....problematic. I think I'll try your method. I'm on a new quest now to find the best place in Skyrim to take a dump. I'll be a hero.

Anyone else found the hunters camp where theres a man and two women stripped off and swimming?

OMG! that's all it takes?

I've been crafting all kinds of steel armor sets to practice my smithing, which takes a little while because I have to find both corundum and iron ore and then use a smelter to make steel.

Told you my strategem was easy. I went from 22 to 93 in a day, and I should hit 100 before nightfall.

I can upgrade Lydia's armour. I gave her Steel plate (vs. regular steel) and she put it on. She also put on Dwarven armour that I gave her.

He was my follower for the past couple of days, but I got tired of his strange drunken banter. Every time I'd talk to him, he hit on my Breton, saying he'd marry her twice. If his voice wasn't so pukey, she'd consider it. Image IPB

Combat-wise, though, he's pretty good, and I noticed he favored 2-handed weapons as well.

My Nordic is going to join the Imperial Legion. He doesn't want to be separated from the breton and imperial Alliance in the Empire. It is thanks to this alliance that they were able to dominate the other races. Also he likes, the rules brought by the Empire.

The better way for him to defeat the Thalmors is still to save the Empire, even if he blames the empire for abandoning its religion with Talos.

Didn't his voice sound a lot like the actor playing Varric when he says. "Wow, what is that, I must be drunk!"
