I think they were mercenaries. Happened to me too. Also playing a dark elf. I was also attacked in another town. I have no idea why. Most likely a fanatic racist. This was a town with lots of racial conflicts. There is also a guy there who wants to challange you to a fist fight. If you give in and a guard is near then you will be fined. The Nord not of course.
I might have some insight on that. The Stormcloaks want to drive the elves out of Skyrim as part of their policy. The elves, as a condition of their treaty with the Imperials, demanded that worship of Talos be outlawed. Which is the main thing that caused the Stormcloaks to rise up.
So the 'racist' nords you run into lumped you in with the elves that are against Talos.

Question, are there Vampire clans in Skyrim? I was thinking about becoming a Vampire but was hoping if there would be clans like in Morrowind.
There must be, although I can't prove that as of yet.
I did go into a dungeon somewhere that there were vampires locked up (see me, being not spoilery?). To my surprise, when I released them, instead of attacking me, they said, "out of my way, meat!", and attacked their captors.
I love this game.

Sounds great, I hope there is. Being a Vampire was a rather lonely affair in Oblivion although still fun.

The lore describes a clan of Ice Vampires known as the Volkihar that live beneath frozen lakes and drag people to their doom.
I wandered around a creepy frozen lake near Solitude quite a bit but never found them.

I never tried out vampirism in Oblivion; what are the benefits?

This may be a hint at a dlc in the future.

Witcher 2 takes that spot for me. I have trouble clicking sometimes, but otherwise after a few hours play I at least know what I'm doing and I find the favorites menu very handy. Some of the challenge is in the versatility of the system, like remembering what's in the right hand and what's in the left and getting them right. That's a challenge I gladly take, since I love being able to design a weapon class. In terms of awkwardness, I'm really only bothered by the difficulty in selecting dialogue options- a click landing on something I didn't intend, especially since you can't skip past dialogue.vometia wrote...
Yeah, I am. I've heard that the menu works well on consoles, but for a PC game it's absolutely the most difficult and cumbersome I've yet encountered;

^ My husband said he prefers being a werewolf. He loaded a game so I could see him in werewolf form, and attacked Lydia, and went on a guard-killing binge. Needless to say, she muttered something about not wanting to be in his service anymore, and left.

There are pro's and cons to being a Vampire, this is the best detailed description I could find on the pro's and cons.

It's fantastic if you plan to be a assassin in the Dark brotherhood.
Being a Werewolf is probably more fun, but I cant resist being a Vampire.

If it s like Oblivion then its more hassle thens worth. Ability to see in the dark and other things (can't remember lol) but the fact that the daylight hurts you and you have to feed on innocent people. I wouldn't be against being one but I'm not actively seeking out warewolf or vampire.
I cleared that dungeon near Whiterun of vampires and thought maybe i'll get infected... didn't happen but it would be cool character progression for my Argonian to try and be good all while having to feed on people.
Come to think of it maybe its because i am an Argonian why they didn't turn me.

Also, my female character started to look like a man.

Can you unlock shout powers without starting the main quest in Whiterun?
No, you can play the game forever without seeing another dragon after tutorial.

No. To unlock shouts you need dragon souls, and dragons only start appearing once you get to a certain point in the main quest.

I'm going to have to swim under there and explore for a while.

I want to put left click with left hand and right click with right hand only problem is I cannot use left hand for my warhammer so that means right clicking for melee attacks which is just weird.
But clicking right mouse for left hand and left mouse for right hand is just as weird.
I use my mouse on my right... anyone know how to fix this?

I think the left mouse button is reserved for blocking with 2H weapons.

That's the only way. It makes sense though since most people are right handed. I got used to it.
