I just took quick look to Wikipedia and it looks like Dwarfs in TES universe are at least 30k old.

Protheans in Mass Effect universe are at least 50k years old.

Though I might be wrong on that.
I only took interest to TES lore once my hype for Skyrim started( when I played Oblivion first, I didn't cared for lore of any game, movie nor book).

Ummm...maybe because it's a reflection of our own history and mythology?

Roman Empire didn't fall over night and we know how it fall.

In Oblivion that could happen- you could get a "lesser" soul in a grand gem. I haven't noticed it so far this time.  To clarify- I've got an empty grand gem and Lydia's soul harvesting hasn't filled it yet, when I'm pretty sure it would have already been filled with common or petty by now.  Can't positively say, though.

Hmm I'll keep an eye on it then. I like buying unused gems in bulk so I can enchant away. Really loving blacksmithing and enchanting work so well together.

I have a question about Soul Trap. When I kill someone and fill a soul gem does it use my strongest gem? I'd hate to fill a Grand Soul Gem with a fox soul.

Also does anyone hear like a really loud static when gaining a dragon soul or any generic soul? I've done the 41000 hz fix but that only fix the white noise in the background still get a lot of static when the soul is being absorbed.

Good question, I'd like to know the answer to this as well.

First, you only get "someone's" soul if you have a Black Soul Gem. Unless they changed it from previous games but I don't thing so.

Now, if you don't have an empty Soul Gem with the right size, it will fill the next grade Gem.

A Dreugor is Petty. If you don't have a Petty Soul Gem, but have one of each other (Lesser, Common, Greater, Grand), it will fill the Lesser first. So try to keep all grades until you know what Soul size all creatures have. Then you can select to trap only those that interest you to do it.

But I think Grand Souls will be Daedra and very high level monsters only. Get the Azura's Star for unlimited re-trapping but don't forget to use it before trapping the next soul.

P.S. Has anyone read the Elder Scrolls novels? Are they any good?

I haven't read them but I think they're supposed to be decent as far as video game books go. And they explain a lot of what happened to the world between Oblivion and Skyrim, what with Morrowind being wiped off the map and so forth.

Heh- I love how Skyrim feels like its almost A Song of Ice and FIre type world, what with the northern areas by Dawnstar and Winterhold feeling like the areas north of the Wall or how the Forsworn by Markarth kind of seem similar to the various tribes in the Vale.

Hell, in Dawnstar I even found a legion guy by the name of "Horik Halfhand." Awesome.B)

^ No, you're right about Black Soul gems, at least, according to the ES wiki:

Black Soul Gems trap Black Souls within them, as opposed to standard Soul Gems (including Azura's Star), which house only white souls, or the souls of animals. Generally regarded as unethical, Black Soul Gems are not prohibited by The College of Winterhold per se. Black Soul Gems are available for purchase from Enthir, a mage of the college. Each Gem prices at about 1300 Septims. Black Soul Gems can be found as random loot on Necromages.

So, uh... What's the use to the ability to breathe underwater?

There appears to be no indication of how long you have before you start losing health and I swam for as long as I thought that would happen, and nothing happened.

Spolier ahead...

In addition to that Skyrim also has The Black Star. That's an infinite rechargeable black soul gem which you can obtain by betraying Azura. ;)

Dwarfs have been gone for 3000 years old in Nirn's timeline.

Because the Roman Empire is the only mysterious civilization in the world that disappeared.

Depending on your condition while under water you start losing health after about 30 to 45 seconds. At least that was the case in Oblivion. So a potion, spell or enchanted item with the spell can increase that time. Breathing under under water is handy when you need to dive (there are most likely underwater dungeons in Skyrim) or to reach a hidden location. There are also creatures under water. Most likely slaughter fish. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more variations in Skyrim. ;)

There is also underwater combat. There are creatures swimming below the surface. ;) Be careful. :) I am going to find out more about those when I find the underwater breathing spell. I found the potion, but not the spell yet.

Slaughterfish have been around since Daggfall. I haven't run into the nuasance yet. :D I remember in Oblivion how much a pain they were! XD mud crabs are fun though. Did you play Morrowind? The mud crab merchant! LOL or the Scamp merchant... Good times.

Yup. I played those games too and I remember them well. The Mages Guild questline required you to dive. I think the Skeleton Key quest required that too. BTW: I hope there is a Skeleton Key in Skyrim, becuse I am getting tired of the mini-game. ;)

I went under for a straight minute if I'm right and nothing.  That's why I was wondering.  I play elves, so it's not that I am playing an argonian.

Thank you though, I appareciate it.

Heh Well I was fighting one dragon and about half way I noticed it had more health it wasn't until I saw frost breath coming from two different directions that I realized it was two dragons and I spent about another 10 minutes fighting the dragons good thing I had my dog, companion and a summoned Dremora Lord very challenging and fun I had saved when seeing the first dragon so I had reloaded 3 times to kill both. My first attempt was...terrible.

Awesome one shot dragon video. Makes me wanna roll an assassin type character.

I can't even compete against one dragon on Master. I may already have an idea of how that confrontation turned out.

I haven't faced two at one time yet, but some dragons seem to have the uncanny ability to show up when you're in a life or death struggle with something else...oh, I don't know, something like a beastly fight with two bears when your picking your way up the mountains.  Let's just say that ended poorly the first time around.

And to reiterate rule number one of Skyrim...save often.

Question:

So like in FO: New Vegas, you could as the PC "create" your backstory by selecting different dialog options if someone asked about your past. Is this possible in Skyrim? Is there anyway you can get to know your character, who he/she is, why he's doing this, how he was born/raised etc.

A big reason why I enjoy RPG is the way I can connect to my PC and to get to know him/her better. So is this possible, or am I just playing a random guy who happens to be Dragonborn?

Yeah, the Black Marsh Helm.  Remember it well.  It became a standard piece of kit for me in Oblivion.  Was hoping to find it's equivalent in Skyrim.  Good to know it's out there somewhere.

There is no backstory for your PC, unless you feel like writing something yourself, just like in NWN and all other Elder Scrolls games. But seriously, the New Vegas PC wasn't really a character either. All you could do is make some random comments about your past which had no effect on the game and were never mentioned again. Your backstory will be as meaningless in Skyrim as it was there.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out if it's a glitch.  If it is, kind of makes picking an Argonian or using equipment with enchantments that allow you to breathe underwater useless.

Ah. Cool. Let me know the result. I'll do some experimenting myself tonight when I encounter water along the way. ;)
