my character can turn into a werewolf, I only have my character change when I feel he really needs to, like if he's outnumbered or is fighting something hard

You have to start the companions quest line there is a quest pretty early on where it happens

Well, it's like Michael Jackson's "Man in the mirror" song. If you want to make Skyrim a better place, you've got to get all enraged and make the change. As far as how to start as a werewolf...I've no idea. I've only touched a couple hours here and there since launch, and haven't reached that point yet.

Edit: The answer lies above, apparently.

Hit the Tilde key, and click on a random NPC. Put in "addfac 19809 1" and enter. Be sure to wear a Amulet of Mara when you talk to the NPC. That's how you can marry anyone.....Male Altmer FTW.

EDIT: This won't work on Khajits or Scripted (Ulfric, etc.) characters.

Yeah I stumbled into become a werewolf quite quickly. Just stick to doing the companions quests and you can get it pretty early on.

whoa creepy ass bugs... Forgot their names but I come across this lighthouse in the mountains east of Dawnstar. Inside dead body... As I investigate I find a cave in the cellar. These bugs that spit poison or something and their up close attack is even worse. I'm reminded of Cazadors from New Vegas. At least these ones don't have wings and aren't uber fast lol.

Hey, I was just recently able to play Skyrim, and of course I love it, but I'm running across a little problem: the game will randomly freeze for maybe ten seconds. The sound still plays fine, but nothing else happens. A few moments later it's back to normal...does anyone here have any idea what could be causing this.

I'm on PC, by the way.

I've run my dark elf destruction mage up to about lvl 12 now. Have a pretty good feel for things. I'm not blown away by it, it is a slightly more refined version of the same game they've done for goodness knows how long.

The good:
1. The world is amazing to look at, just stunning in some places even on the 360. The weather effects are great as well. I loved the feeling of getting lost going from one city to the other because I missed a cross road in the snow storm.
2. Cities. I give Bethesda credit their cites are insanely small and populated by maybe a dozen actual people but they still feel pretty big and, as opposed to Kirkwall, like they are laid out like cities.
3. The interface. Much cleaner than the crap that was Oblivion
4. The changed leveling system. Borrowing the idea of perks from SPECIAL is good. Still wonky in a lot of ways but perks give it a sense of purpose when you level that you didn't have before.
5. Two fisted combat. Thank you for borrowing from bioshock 2. Being able to dual wield spells or combo them up really helps.
The Better
1. Quests - I'm not going to call it good because there are a lot of generic "kill it because it is there" dungeons that have no reason to exist other than as grindfests but they have upped the quest content so I feel a lot more motivated to do things in the world.
The Bad
1. Combat - Mage vs mage duels play like I'm in any generic FPS because they'll circle strafe the snot out of me and my ability to hit them is wholly dependent on me, the player, being able to move and shoot fast. Melee combat is marginally better but first person melee still stinks overall but might be the most "stat-y" of the combat forms. Archery is still a joke. People talk about DA2 as "action" but this is a LOT more action-y than anything from the DA* series.
2. Dungeon design. Basically a straight crawl (well a one way path that will turn occasionally) with 100% the same critters in the dungeons. A lot of cut n' paste re-use as well - hey that Drauger crypt look familiar? No? Well wait, you'll see it 500x times.
3. The Journal. This is shockingly bad. Once you get a quest the "headline" is all you get. No details of what and where you need to go and given the way they pile up this annoys me.
4. Looting. Still the same looting by a thousand cuts as each thing in a dungeon has 5-10 gold on it. Seems worthless to do but has to be done since the accumulation over a whole dungeon gets epic. Ditto the amount of crap to pickup.
5. Monoculturing. I think one reason combat bores me so much is that I have fought every fight with one spell - Flames until I leveled up and now Firebolt. I dual wield it and use nothing else in combat. My second most used spell is Candlelight. There's just no reason to ever use Plan B because Plan A is always the best option.
The Ugly
1. Companion AI. I shouldn't say AI because I'd guess they didn't program anything into these people. Their path finding is terrible, they make schitzo choices on what weapons to use. They have zero survival instinct. Your ability to control them is terrible and they block your path an awful lot.
2. Puzzles. Is there a law that the flip over all the tiles and each flip controls X or maybe X+1 or X+3 tiles a law in RPG's? Hate 'em. They're boring be done with them.
3. Lockpicking. Way too sensitive and, once again, relies way too much on my skills and not my PC's skills. I thought the FO style picking would be better than the old Oblviion. It is but it is still awful.

*spoilers - mild but still*

I was stunned how early/fast  that happened. It was "only the inner circle" and after what two quests - *blammo* inner circle.

Mines used to do that but it hasn't in a couple days. But a lot of people are still experiencing it, so perhaps it's a bug with rendering the world.

You better start pumping some conjuration and illusion, because buddy...destruction is going to suck after level 35 (spells don't scale). I'm just warning you. Hopefully this gets fixed by the developers though.

It's a full Ebony set, Andarthiel. Ebony has always been the most beautiful set in TES games since MW which was my first. =) (My Ebony Sword does 106 dmg plus the enchantment =)

Now, a bit of a spoiler but no so much. Some quest in Morthal is EXACTLY the same, even some of the lines, (if not all, can't remember that much) of one quest in Ultima IX Ascension! I see it as some homage to Ultima, isn't it?

Yeah, well, I have an Ebony Greatsword that's over 3000!  Yeah, I cheated, I just wanted to know if increasing the smithing skill past 100 with console commands continued to increase damage.

The answer is yes, because they have an algorithm programmed that increases the effect based on Smithing skill value.

I enjoy the game but for lots of different reasons, other than I should have. All the marketing of the game was crap that doesnt stand in the game.
Combat clunky, AI a disaster at times, oversimplification - character developement... and the GODDAMNED RETARDED UI! Lack of key binding...
There is no hope for the PC I see... and I blame the consoles. There is no other explanation.

Dumbed down for consoles as usual. Simplifications are elementary.

Wait, so are they fixing the magic system, or are you just hoping they fix it?

I really dislike how spell damage doesn't scale with skill level...

I said that wrong...no I don't know if they are BUT THEY BETTER!.

naughty99 wrote...

Why is that?

I will be trying either a pure mage or pure warrior character next playthrough.

Basically, you spells don't scale so by the time you reach 40- 50 you will be throwing cotton balls and your enemies will only be getting stronger (not to mention the adsurd magicka costs to throw in, which makes you die in two hits). I don't know whyyyy the took away spell creation and didn't make the spells scale....oversight I guess.

You can enchant your gear so that mana costs for Destruction (or any other mage school) are reduced to 0.

With Conjuration and Illusion, though, you don't even have to do any damage to enemies yourself.

You know how you can tell I'm a douche bag?

This Khajiit Silver Hand member is trying to kill me, but he's not moving.

Neither am I.

I strapped the block button down on my controller so my character always has his shield up.

The guy can't kill me. He's slowly, VERY SLOWLY, doing damage. But my character levels up and that gives me my health back.

I'll have blocking to 100 in no time.

I have a question. Can someone explain to me the mechanic behind raising your heavy armor skill? It seems to be entirely random, and strictly based on you letting yourself get hit, without blocking.

Yes, it's not quite random, rather it's supposed to correlate to learning how to survive attacks while wearing heavy armor, so the higher damage you take, the more your skill improves.

Well, that just seems silly to me, as it punishes you for  having a decent armor rating,  and you know, being  a good warrior  all around (blocking, repositioning  in combat, killing people quickly).  If what you're saying is true, I should probably dump my *good* armor and just find some cheap iron gear to put on... and  then stop blocking, and pretty much fight like an idiot.    I'll take more damage that way, and thus raise my Heavy armor skill faster.

That's why Light armour is best for a warrior, imo. Especially with the stamina advantages. Heavy armour is for battlemages.
