The user interface is horrible. If feels like it was intended for a console and the PC "adaptions" were made by a programmer or designer who has no love for PC games. There was also no testing of the user interface. Nobody at Bethesda must have played the PC version for more than 2 minutes. "It works. Wrap it up." I am getting really frustrated by the illogical conventions and especially the inability to select a simple dialog option. Although I love the game, this makes me want to give up on it. Sigh. Ghehe. ;)

Tap E once to highlight the conversation lines, navigate with W and S and tap E again to select the line. Like I said, E is the new MLB. Tap E to skip conversations, close dialogue, anything! hehe

Ghehe. Yeah. That's what I am doing, but it still doesn't work all the time. Also, the inventory has a feature which randomly closes it. Ghehe. At first I thought it had to do with the mouse, but the same thing happens with the keyboard. :P BTW: That mouse cursor is huge. Very inconvenient.

I found out where the first three Guardian Stones are:

Warrior, Thief, and Mage are located South West of the mountain where the Greybeards are. You can get to them pretty quickly right after finishing the first mission of escaping your execution.

Yeah... you're actually led there if you don't head off into the wilderness on your own.

Personally, I can't wait until I find the Steed.

I didn't know, if I had then I might have been more interested in the game.  My brother just showed me.

All three are in the same area.

Thief Increases the following by 20%:
Alchemy
Light Armor
Lockpicking
Pickpocket
Speech
Sneak

Warrior increases the following by 20%:
Smithing
Heavy Armor
Block
One-Handed
Two-Handed
Archery

Mage increases the following by 20%:
Destruction, Restoration, Conjuration, etc

Mage increases pretty much everything else that isn't covered by Thief and Warrior.

LOL... I have Warrior stone activated since day 1, hour zero! It was the very first thing I discovered in the game escaping Helgen. =)

You can enchant your gear so that mana costs for Destruction (or any other mage school) are reduced to 0.

With Conjuration and Illusion, though, you don't even have to do any damage to enemies yourself.

Yes, it seems you're not going to get away with just Destruction, which I think is a great system.  You're forced to think about how to balance it out, either through weapons or other mage classes.  Conjuration is very powerful.  I have a little flame lass following me everywhere now.  Her fireballs sometimes make everything dead by the time I show up.

This works sometimes, but not always.  I find I have to have the cursor over the correct line, have it highlighted, then hit E, and sometimes even that does nothing.  They really do have to fix the PC interface.  It is incredibly frustrating to hear the same dialogue option over and over because I'm trying to pick the one below it.

With W and S you put the line you want on the right spot (the little arrow-like marker) and it will highlight. The E to select it. =)

Lol, I take a quest that requires me to have a new companion and Lydia goes away. I look all over, go to dragonreach and she's not there in the hall. I give up, and go to my first house to get my shield out the chest because I may have to be the tank.

There she is eating lol.

Well, she is your housecarl, charged with protecting you and your property (once you own some).

Each of your other potential homes comes with a resident housecarl as well.

I've been finding The Shadow really handy as a stealth character.

I used it to backstab a giant and almost one-shotted him.

Paying to train Heavy Armor can be very very expensive. Best way I found, other than real fights, is when I find weaklings or hand-to-hand brawls. I let them keep hitting me and use Healing spell if needed, after I softened them a bit or if they are a 1-hit-kill for me.

It doesn't take much time, it does not become an obsession, just some quick training while traveling on the road or exploring dungeons. Just always keep a cure disease potion because rats, wolfs, mudcats and sabers will infect us easily if we're not a Bosmer.

I'm at 67 skill level now and found a nice ghost to train. 3 more levels and it is weightless heavy Armor +25% extra armor bonus from a matching set! =)

Thats what I really love about the crafting systems in the game- that every little piece of seemingly junk loot like butterfly wings can actually be used for something. I usually don't enjoy crafting or alchemy type systems in RPGs that much but I'm surprised at how much I'm enjoying the smithing, enchanting, alchemy and even cooking!

Its just so awesome to be able to continually upgrade your armor/weapons and then to enchant your weapons and give them their own names! Yes, my flaming sword is totally named Lightbringer :wizard:

@Brock:

Absolutely love to cook. It's great being able to "upgrade" even my food! I was in the middle of a fight in a fort, went through it's kitchen killing baddies, and in the middle of all this, it's like, "oh look, a kettle and fire...I need salt and garlic."

The Mage, Thief, Warrior stones are close to Riverwood.

There are 13 of these in total I believe, spread out all over Skyrim. I've found about 5 or 6 of them. When you are exploring you will see a black pillar looking icon on your compass, just keep going forward adn you will find it.

Can't wait for some mods adding lots more cooking recipes.

Also hunger, thirst and inebriation features

We got ours from Steam, but I went to Gamestop on release day to get the game guide and they were sold out, told me to come back the next day because they'd be getting more in.  The next day they only had a couple left of their new shipment.  It's madness out there, but very well deserved buzz.

Warrior, Mage and Thief? About halfway on the road from Helgen Keep to Riverwood.

After leaving Helgen, following the Stormcloak, not the Imperial. Just go in a straight line fromm the cave exit. It makes an 90 degrees angle with Riverrun and that Helgen exit. (it's been 65 gaming hours ago... might not be that accurate you it should pop up in the compass so it makes easier to find).

On a side note, I'm damn glad they took off item repair from this game or my Heavy Armor trainning would be impossible... hehe

The Serpent Stone is on an island south of Winterhold.  The Stormcloak quests give you a marker.  I found the Apprentice stone near Solitude.

The Shadow is near Riften. Really handy if you playing stealth or warrior and want to be able to turn invisible once per day.

The Ritual is on a mountain overlooking the river to the east of Whiterun.

I read a book somewhere that tells you roughly where several of them are located. Something about "Explorer's Guide to Skyrim" I think was the title.

I think it helps that its been a while since there has been an Elder Scrolls game too.  People haven't gotten sick of annual Elder Scrolls games since its been about 5 years since Oblivion. I think more developers and publishers could take that to heart instead of trying to annualize their franchises and have people end up getting sick of them while the quality slowly drains.

Its just astounding when you look at the Steam numbers for the game and how many people are playing it. And considering Skyrim was a $60 PC game, Bethesda is more than likely making a good amount more per PC copy than console.

If you feel like looking up all the Guardian Stones, I found them in the wiki. Or avoid temptation. Image IPB

My favorite so far is the Lover stone: All skills improve 15% faster.

Some of the descriptions make me hungry.  I was ooh'ing over Elsweyr cheese fondue.  Finally found some Moon Sugar and egad is it expensive, so I won't be indulging in that unless you can loot it somewhere.  Too bad you can't substitute garlic.

Not so sure about "Horker loaf."  Just sounds bad.

I loved cooking in Fallout New Vegas, too.  I even made my version of Cook-Cook's Stew for real, it was awesome.  Image IPB

And this is definitely the most beautiful armor set for me, from all pics I've seen here, and will be my final one too. I too play 99.9% on 3rd person view and armor appearance has a major part on it.

That is nice.  What is it?
