They told people from the beginning to level naturally. To me this means developing crafting skills slowly alongside combat and defensive skills. If you spend hours making daggers, you're unbalancing your game- don't blame the system.
The crafting part of the game is always the part I hate. I'm still amazed anyone does this sort of tedious crap in a game. I do not want to do this sort of stuff. My job is to kill people and save the world not mix up a new batch of Skyrim Robotussin. The problem is as I read and follow along it seems that if you do not at least enchant the game puts into a bad box in terms of competeing with the scaling.
I'd have to say, then, that Elder Scrolls games are probably not for you. Saying you don't like Crafting, Alchemy, Blacksmithing, cooking etc, is almost the same as saying "I don't like free-roaming open worlds and doing quests". In which case, you really shouldn't be playing this game.
Because these are the things that this game is really about. But that said, you don't need to craft a damn thing to compete with the scaling. This game gives you shouts, which, when used right, are insanely over powered. So collect them and use them.
And on a side note, something I noticed: It seems as though the only people complaining about difficulty happen to be playing squishy mages. Perhaps mages ARE underpowered in this game. But that's just a theory as I haven't actually played one yet.

It is likely why I loved FNV more than Oblivion - well other than there being an actual plot - is that I didn't do any of the not an adventurer type things.

I even turned the difficulty down to Novice but I can't win that fight. Not even if my life would depend on it.

I'm playing a dual-wielding Dark Elf, who doesn't have any ranged methods of attacking. So I was outside the Shrine of Boethiah about to perform her Daedric Quest when a blood dragon decides to attack. Unfortunately, since the area is extremely mountainous, I couldn't find any good spots to get the dragon to land, aside from further up the mountain, which I could only scale by horse. So I used my Dragonrend shout and rode my horse up to the top of the mountain. At this point, I'd done absolutely no damage to it, but apparently I'd forced the dragon to land outside a cave, where a pair of snow bears had chosen to take residcence and, by some miracle, managed to take the dragon down all by themselves before being turned into snow bear pelts by me.
Epic moment of the day.

103 hours, level 39 half-way to 40, still over 75% of locations undiscovered and some 75% of quests undone (my educated guess without anything to base it but it's prolly a close call)
My Nord Warrior stats atm:
Two handed Sword skill - 100 (all perks concerning combat and Greatsword. None for other weapon types)
Blacksmith skill - 100 (perks to Heavy Armor up to Ebony and Light Armor up to Elven - because Elven
Greatsword is great early in the game)
Heavy Armor skill - (all perks but the 100 skill required reflection)
Enchanting skill - 60 ( perks to enchanting power 3/5, fire dmg +25% and +25 skill - going for +25 health/stamina/mag and 2 enchantments tree if I raise the skill to that point)
Many other skills with medium level like lockpicking, alchemy and sneak, over 50 with no perks and no need really.
18 Words of Power learned, 15 Souls collected, 13 Shouts learned and unlocked, 1 Shout mastered.
I can kill most anything with a good strategy and of course, lots of things can kill me in some two hits too if I'm not careful and do not prepare accordingly, like some Master Necromage with shock damage. I love how the game do punishes or rather demans that we use Resistance potions or items against elemental and magic damage, unlike some recent games where we can go Zero % on highest diff with no consequence.
I keep re-forging and re-enchanting my gear and my companions' as my skills increase and it's a fraking insanity! To increase Enchanting, I crafted some 70 leather bracers and enchanted as many as I could with all petty, lesser and common soulgems I have been finding and purchasing while I use Greater to recharge my stuff and Grand to enchant my gear. Still have many crafting/enchanting to be done to get where I want with the char but hey... thought of sharing it here. Just like in Oblivion, this game makes me be a Boaster on the forums! Please don't be mad! =)
I'm sticking with my self crafted & enchanted Ebony stuff till the end for RP reason. Unless I find some Greatsword that is too good to pass. Not armor though. And my current AC over 600 is good enough. All of which do not make much difference at all when the game will kill us. It will kill us until we learned how to beat the challenge. (anyone got so mad with Boethians that felt the need to kill them all in a Shrine? That was borderline insane!) Master diff always!

Check if your Sound Properties is set to 24 bits, 48000 Hz. If it is not, set it to that. I had no more crashes after changing that. Except some very rare crashes at Transitions. Gladly, the game saves the autosave past Transition even on a CTD! =)

Ugh, this quest. It has a second phase, too, and that's also buggy. I did manage to finish it all- and yes, you need the amulet, too. And one of the bugs is that you can't sell it before the quest finishes so I missed out on 500 gold and now have a permanent item in my inventory. <_< At least it doesn't weigh anything! I had like 20 pounds worth of quest stuff at one point.Sidney wrote...

Okay! I finally got Blood on the Ice to finish. This might be a bit spoilery.
Once you get access to Hjerim, loot the bloody chest to the left of the doorway. This will give you an update. Go back to Jorleif and ask about the Butcher. He tells you to talk to Viola Giordano. She solves the murders for you. Once you go back to Jorleif and accuse the guilty party, the quest is finished. I skipped her before, tried to fix it another way, and couldn't finish the quest.
Now to backtrack on my Stormcloak dirty business so I can get Hjerim.
To continue the spoilery...don't you need the amulet that isn't in the chest in order to close the case?
Solving Blood on the Ice did unbug Hjerim so I'm all moved in. It's okay- there are these weird mannequin things on the 2nd floor. They would look great if they were meant to be armor stands, but all you can do is store stuff in them.
All this and I'm STILL not thane of Windhelm. I'm not sure what you gotta do. I was trying to get Calder as housecarl, but I"m giving up. There's too much adventuring to be done.

However... The route to that location was kind of an adventure. When I arrived near the destination I saw a dragon. But he was not alone. He brought a friend. Ghehe. They were obviously fighting some foes. Then I saw two mammoths and a giant. What to do? I just waited. Nobody got hurt, except the dragons. The winners didn't like me much and I wanted those souls. So I kept running around the first dragon and got his loot and the soul. Did the same with the second, but forgot to loot him. So I needed to go back. That nearly killed me. Ghehe.
I love those little random events.

I've done both. I've made some threading changes, so far so good but we'll see...RageGT wrote...

Depends on what playstyle you're going for, stealth skills with single handed dual weapon skills can inflict a huge amount of damage if they are used correctly, just don't expect to come out on top if you approach each fight by barreling into it head first.
And early on Giants will always one hit kill you, and there are a fair few around Whiterun, their not impossible to beat even at low levels, but they are tough and I'm running through on expert at the moment, I might give master a try, but I want to have at least one run on an easier setting.

I had the same problem use a program called CFF explorer to make the main executable for Skyrim Large Address Aware, thus allowing it to access more than 2BG of RAM. My copy can now play with all 12GB and it's much more stable and crashes very rarely.

I am level 10 or there about and I took one down by using spells just standard novice fire and lightning while running backwards I lured them to hillside and would camp on hill picking off their health slowly then popping down hitting them again to make them follow me back to hill when they run off because can't get me. Takes ages but I did it.
Time it took vs value or worth doing... Well probably wasn't worth all that effort other than to see if just could take one down or not.

I had to fiddle with the text file to get what I visually wanted in terms of color saturation to my liking beyond the presets.

Thanks GodWood. This clears things up. At first I thought Talos would have been a Breton because of his birthplace (High Rock). But it seems he's just a Nord who so happens to be born in High Rock.
That's what Bretonordic means: Nords born in High Rock. Just as the original Imperials were called Cyro-Nordic.

Yeah, did that with a giant too, I lured one into fort Greymoor near Whiterun after I killed the bandits inside, and peppered it with arrows from the walls. I got only a 134 gold, not bad but the feeling of accomplishment was greater. I'm only level 7 at the moment. I was higher, but I restarted and made another character, I think my first go was just me getting used to the game and experementing a bit.
Current playthrough I'm trying to scroung up enough materials for gilded elven armour and weapons, I'll have to look at some of the blacksmiths in Whiterun see if they have what I need, or if I can smelt the ores. I think I'll currently go with light armour and dual single handed swords, along with some sneek skills

Having now invested 50+ hours into Skyrim just so that the game can die on me is really making me looking at DA II much more favorably. F*** Bethesda, I can't believe I got suckered into buying another buggy game from them. Fallout 3 crashed constantly for me on PC. I got a PS3, only to have New Vegas buggs out constantly for that platform, and now Skyrim lulls you into a false sense of security by running okay in the beginning and then strike you after you fake being sick from work for days. F*** Bethesda.
Yes it's a pain at times, but you could look at what some people posted above regarding game crashes or one of the threads from another forum for help...
Or you could just kick the cat again.

Yeah, all my crashes stopped too after using the 4GB tweak.
