Maybe Arkane Studios had some influence after all.
Third person view looks good as well.

I liked that the giants seemed to be herding mamoths and the 3rd person view seemed leagues better than Oblivion's.

I'd prefer 300 000 quality text dialogue lines to 60 000 fully voiced ones.
In the Elder Scrolls, you're often by yourself exploring and dungeon diving. It doesn't need to be a chatterfest.
How long are max playthroughs of the Witcher 2? Like, what 60 hours?
My first playthrough of Skyrim will be 300 hours. Maybe CD Projekt should have spent more time putting stuff in to do and things to explore.

That being said, I like what I see in Skyrim so far (and after Fallout 3 and NV I am pretty sure they're going to do it right now=])

Looks spectacular.
I never created a personal backstory for a character...maybe I will for this game. Are we going to be able name our character...and what sort of stuff usually goes into a backstory for your Elder Scrolls characters?

My most recent Oblivion playthrough is around 350 hours and haven't even touched the main quest or entered any Oblivion gates yet.
Granted, I have a lot of mods installed and it is GOTY version, but I'm sure if the combat on hardest difficulty setting for Skyrim is better balanced than Oblivion, playthroughs will be lasting 500-1000 hours, especially considering the infinitely re-spawning dragons and Radiant Story quests.
After installing a bunch of mods that improve combat balance, it takes hours to get through even the smallest Oblivion dungeons. Keep in mind there will be 120+ dungeons and 100+ points of interest in Skyrim, not to mention the cities and smaller towns.

I'd still like to know more about the magic system as well. What about spell making?

I noticed Todd one-shotting bandits from stealth. Hopefully that will still be possible on higher levels, like in Morrowind and Fallout 3. In Oblivion, assassin gameplay became tedious at high levels.

Not sure whether spell making will be in the game or not. Hopefully.
There are some cool new spells like Circle of Protection.
the spell animations in the new gameplay demo video look sick! At 2:43 it looks like he is casting a spell combo with Lightning in the left hand and in the right hand he has either Turn Undead or Circle of Protection.
The draugr have some kind of white cloud animation that shows they are affected by the "turn undead" spell if that's what it is.

Video looks excellent. Looks like the gameplay is there. If the writing, quest design and RPG elements are there too, could be the greatest game ever.
Given this is a Bestheda game we're talking about.... I wouldn't exactly bet on it.

If nothing else, like Oblivion, the mods will provide me with countless hours of fun. But it looks very good so far.

Howard said that writing and storyline is given more focus. It won't be the best ever, but it should be pretty solid. For Elder Scrolls, solid wins the cake.

Todd claiming that the game is over 300 hours long isn't helping either.
I imagine it will likely be more along the lines of the last two TES games (Oblivion and Morrowind) - many players will ignore the main quest, spend a lot of time exploring, doing sidequests., and end up with very long playthroughs lasting 500 - 1000 hours. Possibly even longer this time, since dragons will continue to respawn indefinitely and Radiant Story quests might accomodate this type of very long playthrough.
A small minority of players will just do the main quest and finish the game in 20 hours.
Most will probably end up somewhere in between.

Looked so slick and smooth. Definitely seeing the Bioshock influences. Can't complain.
A bit put off by the fact that the bandit just stayed in one spot after his friend was sniped but I trust they'll fix that.

I think I'm going to have to give this one a pass after all. The combat looks extremely bad for me(admittedly better than previous Elder Scrolls), and Todd claiming that the game is over 300 hours long isn't helping either.
Yeah those games with epic battles and long exploration that give us our moneys worth sure do suck don't they?
